    they didn't "make" us do anything at my school. it backfired. I was held back and tried to enter public school for a second sophomore attempt but the whole reason I was kicked out of school over and over was because It was too slow. so I quit and ended up trying to kill myself two years later.

    instead of just talking about 'low income families' do something about that factor why? of that, why should hard working labor suffer from low wages just because leaderships were too absorbed in their own importance of being leaders, powdering their handsome noses in bathrooms:) even to check where and how of wages which as of now fed wages still are on $7:25 and that paycheck comes with tax cuts. leaderships never looked where working agencies and beaurcratic work force within, what exactly are they doing, that's all your work is as head of Nation, People first, not wars battles or arsenal lobbies selling to other Nation's armament or let cheap dietary regulations allowing harmful addictive's oils palm oil in every food harming public health, just because down the line everybody is getting something out of that.

    middle school to high school, one of the most crucial stages in child's development. do not push maths down on heads, maths importance is only that much eg; for being liberal arts creative I do not need math's at all except the most elementary. also, social civil behaviors also do not need too much math's.

    Man, I was at that school for 6 years now. Right now, I'm in the middle school.I missed those days actually. waking up at 6am to go to school was in pain. I woke up at 7 to get ready to go to elementary. When I pass to the school, I say goodbye to the memories and teachers that helped me. When I got graduated elementary,I say goodbye to everyone. I even remember the playground. It was fun and everything. But now, it seems kind of boring in middle school. But i deal with it. I even remember painted my hand to place it where the wall is. I wish when I graduated high school or middle, I want to go back and see my teachers who had learned me for the past 6 years and say hello.I don't care if one of them got retired or moved out of the school, I just still want to see them and try to find my hand print, even my siblings too.

    I was in the 9th grade when I was sent to an alternative school. It was fairly small, and we only had 6 periods. 4 classes being history, chem, (or science for some) math, and language arts. Our two electives there was pure counseling and a reading club. I was sent there for smoking weed, while others were there for sexual acts, fighting and other school violations. We had school for 2 days only. Monday and Tuesday was middle schoolers. And Wednesday & Thursday was for us high schoolers. Friday was a mixed day, if you were failing you'd have to come in. Therefore there was both middle school and high school students. The times you didn't have to come in, you did online school. For us, we only needed four hours.(1 hour for each subject). I genuinely loved it there. I loved the counseling, the students and the teachers. At my ALC, the teachers were laid back. They let you speak your mind, (even if that included profanity) get up whenever without asking, and you were allowed to leave the room to see one of the councilors there if you were going to have a break down. If you get sent there for some reason, think of it as a way of another chance. I loved it, and fit in easily. You would've never guessed that the people there are very similar to you!

    i whent to an alternative theprautic behavioral school ,i woult say it’s all good or all bad ,but whoever sees this and is being sent too one/choosing one ,maby read this ,so it’s way smaller like there was 17 kids in the whole school,you got to participate in adventure learning where you go diffrent places like skying or to cat cafes and do fun stuff and team building ,basicaly everyone brought some kind of stuffie to school including me i would have them on my desks and the teacher and kids loved them ,it was so normal to have comfort items like stuffies and fidgets ,you could take a self derected or staff derected break whenever you want /needed too , tho a staff derected you couldent have any fidgets or comfort items :(but on self derected you could ,there was support staff in each classroom each classroom had one - two classroom case manegers ,teachers and case managers were very understanding and it was so much less intense then a public school but it also was HARD beacuse you had to be vunrable and do a lot of growing as a person,you had to take accountability for things you did or said that were wrong ,you might get restrained physically if you were agressive (it’s only for safty i promise it’s not a punishment ) and the rooms you could or would be told to take breaks in were empty rooms (for safty) which can be trumatizing ,but i’m so glade i whent ,it was hard having restraint ,isolation rooms,and cueing (when a staff tells a student “that’s a cue” or sends them out of class to a break beacuse there being inappropriate or somthing) and that would be upsetting to whatch beacuse i felt like the teachers were mad ,it was still amazing but it was also r trumatizing ,it was hard becuase you couldent just not try ,you had to put in the work to communicate ,but i rember the kids being so weird and understanding and amazing ,we bonded over my little pony and i would show my teachers my my little pony drawings and they would print out mlp coloring pages for me (i was 14 at this time) and they dident judge ,so if your thinking about going GO beacuse it may be hard but it is worth it ,and if you put in the work it can be amazing it may take a while but it will get easier (but growth is not linar rmeber that) just please read all the handbook ALL of it ,so you know what your getting in too,i whish i would eve read the whole thing ,and try your best to communicate (communication cards are helpful,teachers let me use them !) good luck therapeutic schools are the best thing that’s ever happend to me ,and i may off hated those staff some days,i look back and love them now ,they all are there to help and support you

    After reading these comments I feel alternative school would have been a great option for me. I am guilty of thinking it was all kids who were bad and were most likely going to end up in prison. After reading through the comments I wish I would have gone to an alternative school. I have ADHD and anxiety. I was the weird kid at an all girls private catholic school and failed out. They didn't have the tools for me to be the best student I could be and students didn't help. I did fine in public school and made tons of friends, however alternative school would have been better I feel. For starters a nine to two school day?! That should be how school is in every school. Students actually get time to relax, get work done, participate in extracurriculars and get enough sleep each night. I've read there's breaks in the day which is great, we aren't designed to sit all day. The field trips you all mentioned sound so exciting, field trips don't always have to be about learning. They need more programs like this

    I've been trying to become an Occupational Therapist Assistant and the closest community college is over an hour away. How can I get my local community college, which is 20 minutes away from home to fund a new program? Any assistance is greatly appreciated!

  • @mikepeluso6
    @mikepeluso6 Жыл бұрын

    I don't know if anyone answered this question. As I understand it, there has to be enough local demand to support the program and a strong enough job outlook locally to justify the program. Then you can have a conversation with the local Community College president about starting one up. It's not a simple process to start up a new program. You may be able to get the local community college to offer an Occupational Therapist Certificate through Continuing Education more quickly. Again, please reach out to the leadership of your local community college. That's the best place to get started.

    Went to alternative school after being two years of high school, mostly due to lack of interest and a shit home life. No uniforms, shorter hours and better lunches. Smaller classes and the ability to work as a group and converse with students and teachers at will. Sure, we couldn't just sit there and BS with each other, but we didn't have to be singles out for answers. We conversed a lot. We had a 2 year limit. They eventually put me back into high school. I dropped out a month later. Got a GED. Went to college. And to this day hate traditional school including college.

    As I was a teacher in 2 different alternative schools I can tell you, some are good, and many of them are not, I am no longer a paraprofessional and I will never work or teach again after the experience I had in my school's, I changed my major and went into nursing, the things some staff members do should of had them charged, but they get away with everything, some may be good schools, but mine were disgusting, I went home every day hating myself for working there, watching what they did and how they justified things, be careful on what school you choose, some aren't meant for any kid, no matter how "bad" the kid is, no one deserves what I dealt with.

    I thought this was going to be about a disciplinary alternative school that you got sent to after regular school after getting into too much trouble. We had to wear orange shirts with a D on them for discipline. The principal was a marine Vietnam veteran and would chant war hymns. If you dressed out or dress code they would make you wear a orange jumpsuit. They pat you down and metal detected you every morning and before you left. Any kind of referral and you would either get 2-3 swats depending on severity of conduct and then didn’t have to call your family or you could take suspension for three days but you would have to make those days up. For minor incidents like not looking around the room too much or looking at the clock which was positioned behind the class you would get sent to the hallway and be monitored by a teacher and they had three different sized logs they would make you do various exercises with. Every other Thursday was called prevent day and it was an all day workout on the field outside the school with a drill instructor screaming at you lol. They stopped that by the time I was in 8th grade. Soo much more shit that I don’t feel like typing but it was hardcore. I went to visit the teachers a few years after I graduated (I grew up in a small Texas town and was passing by) the kids were sleeping, out of their desks and talking with one another. Just general disorder that would never have even been possible before it was crazy. They were having FUN lol shit had changed only a couple teachers remained. Oh yeah and they hand you card with a number on it that you wear and they only call you by your number and you gotta cut your hair if it doesn’t align with there rules and walk with your hands behind your head. Restroom breaks 3 times a day as a group. Talking and shit like that are out of the question. You can’t do shit.

    Alternative school is for kids with mental and or emotional issues. If it's hardworking, talented genius kids that's good. If it's the fatherless, ignorant, undisciplined, sociopathic, knucklehead troublemakers it's bad. Later on, they often cause trouble. All benefit from school; later, right back off track for troubles.

    I attended an alternative school in Los Angeles in the 1980s. I wasn't sent there for poor performance alone, but rather because I was the target of a gang that had a beef with me. I don't want to get into the whole mishegoss, but when you have dudes with switchblades and other nasty tools coming after you, the last thing on your mind is getting that geography assignment finished on time. So for 8th grade I was sent to a now defunct alternative school. I attended for a year, got all As and Bs, and that was that. It was a strange experience. We called our teachers by their first names, sang along to Peter, Paul & Mary and Beatles tunes, and had PE at the beach or a park. I can't say I got much out of it, except I dig get my grades up, it was fairly relaxing compared to the very large public school I'd left, and I made some lifelong friends. I also got the impression that there was no real method to the madness. I'm not against alternative schools, but something about it seemed out of focus. But maybe it was just more normal than what you have in a very large public school with three thousand strangers. We got to eat off campus, so the food was better in that regard.
