Flat Twin Therapy

Flat Twin Therapy

Commuting and touring the R1200RT.
My name is Rolf and I live in The Netherlands, near Gouda.
As long as I can remember I've had riding a motorcycle as a passion..I remember my first bicycle had hand brakes and a speedometer. I must have been 8. I'm in love with riding.
Owned a Honda VF750F, Kawasaki ZZR600, BMW R1150R, a R1200GS and now a R1200RT. I love the characteristics of the flat twin boxer engine.
Riding all year, all weather, except when snow or slippery roads are expected. I do not mind rain or freezing temperatures (except the combination).
Every ride feels like a holiday, even when riding in the rain to or back from work.
I'm completely inexperienced in video/audio capturing and editing, but I have a background in photography. That might help.
No goals on number of KZread subs or frequency of posting a new vid. This channel is meant as a hobby and a passion for riding a motorcycle.

Top.

Thanks Steve! You can get cones, or use some tennis balls, which you cut in half. I did the latter. Bought 25 tennis balls for 16 eur incl shipping at oudetennisballen.com (2nd hand). During the excercises with the cones, I noticed I kept getting distracted by the cones , because I thought when I would ride over them, I would slide sideways and thus would fall. In reality this did not happen, but I did notice me being anxious about that, limiting my confidence and thus also limiting the result. The sliced tennis balls slide less. Hence feels better to me. Plus cheaper.

Fitting it is really easy since the speakers are already in the helmet. Very nice quality. I use it every ride for navigating and traffic info. Occasionally I use it to make a call, but really not that often. I'm surprised the caller doesn't notice I'm riding my bike (on the highway). Call quality is really good. Listening a podcast isn't ideal though, for some reason the volume then it's too low (when on highway and with earplugs) but phonecall is not a problem. Also impressed with the battery. You can ride for 8+ hours before need to charge. The crashbars are from wunderlich. Very nice quality as well. That ride looked great, it was getting and better the further you went. Helmet mic sounds good (I have to ride with all vents shut, all of the time). Nice editing and some ambient music thrown in for good measure. Take note of the amount of views you get for this video after, say, seven days. Then go back into your creator studio and change the title of the video for something like “BMW R1200RT - Solo ride out” (anything like that) and then see view count after another 7 days. It may miss the wave of views by then but give it a go nevertheless. I know your happy experimenting with vlog set up, editing etc and views are of little importance but have a go with changing title and thumbnail, or at the very least put in 20% as much time into your title and thumbnail as you do making your next video. You may be surprised with the results.

Nice to see someone committed to celebrating the RT! Good luck with finding a solution to the wind noise; I believe it's basically unavoidable with a chin-mounted camera. Consider looking into mounting a separate mic on the bike somewhere, completely out of the wind, and get a good quality "dead-cat". That suggests a separate recording device or perhaps a handle-bar mounted second camera (which I would always recommend, as it provides shot variety). I know also of someone who is experimenting with wireless microphones, wired into the chin-mounted camera. Yes, moto-vlogging can become a money sink-hole.....
