I'd honestly disagree with the sentiment that using a VHS filter or film emulation doesn't add artistic value. Art is ultimately an expression, and I think no matter how surface-level your reason for using an aesthetic is, it's still adding something. What makes these visual choices so significant isn't decided on the merit of the choice itself, nor public opinion, rather, it's the fact that YOU made it. If someone wants to put an obnoxious VHS filter on their podcast because they personally want that result, then I'd say let them do it, heck, encourage them to do it! Because if they didn't, then they’d ultimately lose something. I agree, you can overuse an aesthetic to a fault. But the faults in film make them unique, they say something about the artist who made that piece. And I think that’s too beautiful to give up

Thanks for your input! I do actually agree with you here. Every element, whether it be a VHS filter or film emulation is always at least a little bit additive to the artistic expression, but perhaps there are scenarios where an element is more effective because there was more thought put into it. Thanks for your comment!

When it comes to brands of cameras, definitely agree with Matteo about the iPhone being the Super8 of modern times. Great discussion points! 🙌🏻

Matteo definitely struck a chord with that point, and I couldn't agree more with him. Thanks for your comment!

Neat idea: challenge yourself to write one crappy one page story a day. Writers always try to write the next masterpiece, so just write a dumb story every now and then. I always find that really long dad jokes work wonders to get your creativity going. Think of a whole story behind something silly you saw yesterday, a made up historical moment that gave us a breakthrough in cooking or our quality of life, and expand that silly thought across a single page. Do that every day. Practice this enough and you might accidentally write weeks worth of ‘crappy stories’ in a flourish - actually decent stories that you can later implement into a story when you’re stuck. Like making ammo today to shoot tomorrow!

This is a great idea! As a creative, I always say you have to get your reps in, and removing the pressure to make something great is a good way of doing that.
