Did they just push the entire demolished house down into what was a basement? I've heard of it being done on rural farm or ranch acreage but it seems like a weird thing to do on a city lot like this. Isn't the typical procedure to truck away the debris and (unless the new structure is planned to also have a basement) eliminate the pit with clean fill dirt which is compacted to minimize future settling?
@electrical5 Жыл бұрын
Briefly spoke with the crew. Yes, they pushed the debris into the basement. From there, the material was extracted with a claw attachment and separated for recycling, recovery and landfill. They are able to make (re)-use of about 10-20% of the house. Pushing into the basement meant they had the rest of the yard area to separate the material. These are rather small lots.

I hate when these demo crews don’t salvage doors. That front down and the sunroom door were both salvageable and could’ve been repurposed, if not even donated to Habitat for Humanity. In fact, so many great resources, just trashed…to fill another landfill. We are just too wasteful and dismissive.

Wood framed homes can handle all kinds of wind. They’re surprisingly rigid. They do however start falling apart when winds exceed 120mph. Brick houses do too as roofs are a weak point.
