BOTW is ZEN AF. TOTK is dope, but is VERY BUSY. BOTW is like an escape as much as it is a game.

I am trying to get into 3 as much as I was with 1 and 2. Its just the area themes and music arent near as good, and as an early 90's baby, that is what set the tone and emotion of games and still does for me today. Been itching to give it a go and start over. I think I got like 35 hours in my first time and stopped.

I still play my Wii U regularly despite owning a Switch and gaming PC. I feel like there was so much care and love put into almost every game released on the Wii U. Nintendo were trying so hard to sway people and bring them over to Wii U and nearly every game they put out was an AAA masterpiece. My only complaint with its library is that it never got a new Metroid game (my favorite franchise), but this was mitigated by the fact that it had almost every Metroid game ever previously made available on it (missing only Metroid II). The Wii U is now my preferred way of playing Zero Mission, Fusion, and the Prime Trilogy. Playing the GBA games on HD widescreen is truly game changing. I also just love how charming and inviting the Wii U is, and all the quirky features it had. Also, best Virtual Console of all time, hands down. Wish I had bought more VC games when I had the chance.

Metroid is my favorite video game series, and it was this game that led me to finally committing to buying a Switch (I put it off for the longest time because I owned a Wii U, and the vast majority of the best games on Switch were just ports of Wii U games I already owned). The fact that only a month after I got my Switch they shadow dropped a remaster of my favorite game of all time (Metroid Prime) was amazing. Anyway, back to Dread, I really enjoyed this game, and it's easily up there with the best of the franchise. However, I have not replayed it since beating the boss rush a few times, and this is almost entirely due to the EMMIs. Every time I think of replaying Dread, I remember the EMMI rooms, groan a bit and then decide to play something else instead. I feel the EMMIs ended up a little bit too frustrating. In concept I really liked them, and in play they remind me a bit of the SAX chases from Fusion, but they often felt unfair to me, because there's literally no way to oppose them other than to run and hope you figure out the path through their domain quickly enough. Sometimes I would enter an area and they were already right there in front of me because their placement is random, and there was basically no way I was going to escape. But there's not even really a consequence for losing other than frustration, because the game just starts you back at the EMMI door to repeat the chase till you do it fast enough. This all feels counter to Metroid'd design, like we suddenly have to explore these particular rooms with a time limit. Now, none of it was terrible, and it certainly didn't ruin the over all experience, I just feel the EMMIs were comparatively undercooked when standing next to the rest of the game, which is borderline perfection, and they did sour the experience enough that I haven't felt the desire to replay the game since. I think if there were more ways, or easier ways, to counter them, it would have gone a long way towards making them less frustrating but still terrifying.

I mostly agree with your takes on all the games. All are stellar, Zero Mission is probably the best remake of a game is video game history, Samus Returns is woefully underappreciated and did some great stuff evolving the franchise, Fusion is pure horror but the difficulty balance is sometimes on the frustrating side. I will disagree about Super, however. I don't think it feels dated at all, and actually prefer its somewhat floaty feeling over how comparably stiff Zero Mission and Fusion feel. The floaty-ness is by design, and while it can be a little harder to learn, it leads to far more player control, if a higher skill ceiling. For example, in Zero Mission and Fusion, when you wall jump off a surface the game forces you to fly off at a 45 degree angle. No control, just flung to the opposite wall. In Super the wall jump was harder to pull off, as you had to be more precise, but when executed it functioned almost identically to a normal spin jump, leaving you with complete control. If you got good enough with the wall jump in Super, you could pull back and jump again off the same wall, allowing you to scale any vertical surface and sequence break the crap out of the game (something I do every time I replay). I would also toss Metroid and Metroid II some love. Yes, their remakes are far more modern and intuitive and the quality of life improvements are for the best over all, but I still thing the original games are shockingly playable. I just beat NES Metroid again this year and I had an absolute blast. Or course I used a map I found online, but even when I first played this game as a kid in the early 90s I did so with a Nintendo Power open on my lap, so I feel that was as intended.

Prime 1 is my favorite game of all time, and 2 and 3 are probably in my top 20. I bought a Gamecube when Prime 1 was released specifically for that game, which I had been following for years after the first trailers were released in like 2000. 2 and 3 I didn't have to play with the same desperation, but I did get around to both of them and ended up loving them as well. I love how each has it's own feel but they also all have a cohesion that makes them work well together. Prime 1 is a space epic with a knight exploring the ruins of a fallen civilization to slay a dragon and free the world from corruption. 2 is a survival horror through hell itself to face the knight's doppelganger. 3 is a sci-fy miniseries about clashing super powers and the fate of the galaxy with the knight leading the charge all while dealing with a corrupting illness. For me, all three games are 9.X/10 titles, and some of the best games ever burned to laser disc. Also, about the Aurora units, they were intended to be a nod to Mother Brain from Metroid and Super Metroid, implying that she may have been an Aurora unit herself (this is left vague but implied). For me, personally, I thought they were really cool because of that. Following the orders of AI units that parallel Samus's greatest foe was an awesome easteregg.

I actually got a wiiu as my graduation gift, and I will always cherish this console mostly due to it feeling like (to me at least) Nintendo showed care to the console. Whereas the switch just feels...there, bland, and soulless in my collection of Nintendo collection. I don't even use it that much, but give me a wiiu, and I'll guarantee that I'll be playing that on hours on end. Love this console since I was nine, and I still love it now. ❤❤❤❤❤❤

I'm going down memory lane at the moment, and Go Vacation was one of the games my big sister and I used to play a lot as kids. We used to do stories with our characters, make them themed villas, do the hidden sidequests, unlock everything, go to the hidden areas... And do everything back again with a new set of characters. I loved this game and I have so many fond memories of it. I'm thinking of picking up the switch version, even though I still have the wii one lol

Shoutout to Xenoblade 2 for having my favourite menu screen of all time. The beautiful background vignettes changing with each chapter of the game is great, each one characterizes that part of the story and level design, and it has the best menu music ever.

So after reading about the modding community's experience with this game, I sadly can't imagine them ever developing a sequel. It's probably one of the most absurdly over-complex games to modify on the system, and ironically after their guarantee that they'd add lgbt+ themes to it, it may be borderline impossible for them to ever manage it without rebuilding it all from the ground up which they likely aren't interested in doing. I assume, we may hope that perhaps, if it arrives, it will be on the switch's successor, another few years from now.
