I work on ice machines pretty much every day. I created this channel to share some of the jobs I do and try to pass on some of the knowledge I’ve gathered. I’m constantly learning and growing as a tech and I apologize in advance if I make a mistake or lead you down the wrong path. I hope you enjoy the content.

Do you have any flaker cleaning videos? I browsed your channel a bit but didn't see any. I cant find any good ones online. My company does a bunch of hoshizakis and some are flaker. But nobody has ever cleaned one before and I'm the PM guy. So it's a bit frustrating knowing I'm doing it half assed
Thank you so much for this video. No where does it show you any of this on ice-o-matic manuels! How often do you need to deep clean like this?
Do you buy oem pumps for hoshi? They are pretty pricey
Great video but I think you’re wrong on the ice thickness adjustment. For thicker ice you actually push the tab down not up according to the manual “down = more water thicker ice “ “up less water =thinner ice “
There are two floats in that white box. One is the harvest float and one is the water level float. The tab controls the harvest float. Moving the tab up moves the harvest float down. This causes the machine to use more of the water in the trough before cycling into harvest. This causes the ice to be thicker. Moving the tab down raises the harvest float and makes the ice thin. I may also be wrong about this but I’m pretty sure that’s correct.
The ice-o-matic ice maker, model number CIM0520FA, has a blue light on and a yellow light continuously flashing, and it is not producing ice. I would like to resolve this issue. What should I do?
Call ice-o-matic tech support. They would be the best solution.
Quick question if this reaches you. How fast would you say it drops ice?
Every model is slightly different. The environment also causes alot of fluctuations in the freeze time. Some where in the 12-20 minutes range seem typical.
@@IceMachine411 did you say TWELVE to TWENTY MINUTES between ice cycles? wow, didn't realize it was that long, i must of forgotten. Thanks for the reply
I hope I didn’t misread your comment. It’s roughly 12-20 for the complete cycle.
@@IceMachine411 My question is "how long does it take to make a single batch of ice, drop it and start making another?"
My Scotsman ec86 water is not draining what would be the problem?? Tnx
Sounds like you may have a clogged drain.
Im about to do this same job today. Awesome video, I will try removing the line. that's a good idea. Thanks for the video
Good luck! 🍀
Why doesn't manitowoc just have a schrader install on the high pressure switch?.
Im not sure. It may be to reduce refrigerant leaks.
How about showing the actual installment of the water pump. I can’t get one in. I took the O ring off and it goes in, but just barely. It does feel like there is enough room for the O ring to be on and go in. Very very tight. FYI 30 years plumbing experience.
Ive ran into this same issue before. Clean it really well. Add some food safe lubricant. If it came out it’ll go in. Sorry if this isn’t a solid answer.
Good job thank you for the excellent instructions.
You’re welcome. Thank you for your excellent comment.
That 280 volts probably messed up alot of the electrical components. Would not be surprised if other issues arise
You’re probably right. It took out the pump for sure. I was kinda surprised that the machine came on at all considering the high voltage.
@@IceMachine411 yup. Electricity does some funny things
Do you have Instagram or TikTok? Just subbed, it's been a good minute since I worked on a Hoshi. That float switch according to hoshizaki should be all the way down from factory
Not at the moment. I’ll be starting one soon though.
@IceMachine411 hope to see it soon, I have questions that come every now and then. I don't work on ice makers as much as I use too
Never actually seen one done, this will be helpful. Got a Blueair to do and they are almost identical
Blue Air is from South Korea I think. 🤔. They do look exactly like a Hoshizaki. I hope you plan to make a video!
Very nice…..
Thanks
Hi! Can you make a video for the temperature sensor replacement?
I will if I get a chance. It’s pretty easy to do. Accessing the probe will probably be the hardest part.
Mine is brand new same issue?
Make sure it’s not an install issue. Then call Manitowoc. They’ll take care of you under warranty. They’re awesome people.
👍👍👍

Great video. Thank you for sharing
Thanks Kenzy!
Good morning, where I can contact with you buddy?
My friend! [email protected]
Hot gas valve same as txv? I ask cause the new job i start this week deals with ice makers sometimes
No , two different components.
No. TXV’s meter the flow of refrigerant into the Evaporator so that ice can be form. The Hot Gas valve allows hot gas refrigerant to enter the Evaporator so the ice can slide off the evaporator after it freezes.
Good work tech
Thank you Silent Tech.
Dude! Your video saved me a lot of time. The pump kept losing prime. I could fill the tray until it primed each time the machine went into freeze. The impeller was barely spinning. Thanks!
So happy to have been helpful. I’m glad you were able to figure it out and saved some time. When those pumps start to run slow it can be kinda tricky to catch.
Great video I’m always learning something new 👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed the video.
How do you take calcium buildup inside the water hoses? Thanks for the video.
I use a pipe brush. For the 1/4 inch hoses I use a pipe brush with the bristles cut off so that it’ll fit in the small hole.
Excellent, thanks for making this video. This is our exact machine. About twice a year, it gets black particles in the ice. Now I know what to do for sure. Here I go, doing it right now.
You’re welcome. I glad you found it helpful. Hope all goes smoothly with your cleaning.
See those exactly like that alot with the newer ecm motors. Older units they just fail open. At minimum, Pinch just below the switch and cut off the switch and braze shut. Install service tee on high side, install flare nut on new switch and install. (Loosen schrader just enough the get pressure to switch) And in a year do it all over again when the new one burns up. Or install a adjustable fan cycle control, set it and forget it. Or best, recover refrig remove switch, install 1/4" shrader and install adjistable fan control, oem filter then do your pressure test and evac and weigh charge. That way you fixed the problem "hopefully permanently", confirmed charge is correct. I did a stupid short video on using a pinch off tool and tool to open the pipe back up, but it leaves the pipe extremely vulnerable to breaking.
Love your advice! Your method is definitely a solid method to complete this job. I’ve always been a little hesitant about pinching the copper but I’ve never had a problem with doing it that way. The comments left on this video were pretty hateful. Apparently there’s a lot of people who think this is a terrible idea. Honestly I’m just following Manitowocs guidance on completing this repair. Hope you enjoyed your weekend. Hope you have a smooth week. Stay safe out there. 💪🛠️
My unit freezes but won’t go into harvest Could a bad prob be the reason why it won’t go into harvest , low float light never comes on
Sounds like you’ve figured it out. The low water float is what sends the machine into harvest.
Great video work. Can we get extended versions though for someone a bit more unfamiliar. My scotsmans are in awkward spots so would love to see the full breakdown of how you took parts off or got to certain areas
When I get a chance I’ll try to make a more detailed version of this video.

@@IceMachine411 checked another one of your videos and it was from 2 months ago. You did an even better job and gave more details. You might not realize how many people you are helping. You explain things very clearly so much appreciated for your work and due diligence
Really!! Sorry i dont agree with your procedure!
I know it seems strange but this is the procedure given by the Manufacturer. If they hadn’t told me to do it I would 100% with you.
Call the manufacturer , I'm sure you know better than the people who designed the system and defined the procedure .
How can you seal a metal pipe by pinching it?
Pinching the line just stops the refrigerant from flowing out. Welding it is what seals the line.
@@IceMachine411 Yeah, sorry. I phrased it poorly. How can the pinching stop the stuff inside and then releasing it opens it? I didn't know it's possible with a metal pipe.
I think it’s because it’s copper. Copper is softer and more malleable.
@@IceMachine411 Cool!
so, that does damage the pipe you pinched??
Yeah, that looked less than great… but I’m no fridgy.
He applies a little heat then uses channel loks to open that pinch back up
I assume it’s possible if not done correctly. I have not seen one damaged by using this procedure.
Thank you. This video was so helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much. I didn't come to our restaurant, so I turned on the main switch and waited, and it came out a little bit, but I wonder if it's going to take a long time
Only time will tell. Hopefully it starts working!
Ate you purging air and nitrogen ?
Neither. H pinched it. So it was still charged.
@@user-de3cm9lf8oYou can pinch a copper line?
Purged the air out of the line. Didn’t use nitrogen. Would have if I could have.
When you restore pressure to that switch you’ll hear a click.
I guess I should pay more attention. I’ve not been listening.
Good fix tech
Thank you!
Holy shit!! Nice!!!
Right on! 👍
I have one that will run if you put it in test mode via the control board but the touchpad does not respond. Not lights or anything. Is the touchpad a common failure with these units?
Fairly common. I’ve replaced a few recently. Unfortunately they come as an assembly. Have to by the door frame. Can’t get the touch pad by itself.
@@IceMachine411I see. Thanks!
Obviously r 404 grab the orange jug and let’s go
I have the same one, water is not freezing.
That’s not good. Check to see if your harvest valve is stuck open. That’s a common problem with these machines.
I’ve been battling with a 20 yr old large Manitowoc ice machine for two yrs…. I’m almost sure it a harvest valve now…. Great video thank you for the education….!
Pretty cool that you have a machine that’s 20 years old and is still working.
lol same, q series! Gave it a little knock and, wallah! Harvested ice😅
Working on a machine just like that. A big pain in the butt. 😂😂😂. Thanks for the information Man. Good video.
Right on bro. Glad you found it helpful.
My dude !!!!! End up being water filter 😮
Nice! Glad it was an easy fix!
What causes this ? i have a hoshizaki 900 scalloped ice machine , and the plates done this ,it is only 3 years old . I had a icomatic 500lb i never did anything but clean it , i got rid of it because the ice clogged my fountain drink machine , and i needed a little more capacity .
The welds slowly break over time through the freeze/thaw process. Every once in a while you can just get a bad machine. Hoshizaki covers repairs under warranty for up to three years. You can also get the part only up to 5 years. I’d contact hoshizaki tech support and see what they can do for you.
Bro maintvoc ice machine doesn’t produce ice and the machine frequently turns to off mode then we have to switch it on again… after sometime it goes back to off mode? Any suggestions
Without being there in person to look at your machine I’d have a difficult time trying to figure out your problem. Call Manitowoc and talk to one of them. They can help you out over the phone. Manitowoc Technical Support: Phone: 800-247-4520
How does this Avantco determine when to harvest?
I think it’s the water float. When there’s no more water in the trough it gos into harvest.
@@IceMachine411 I tracked down the manual online and it would seem to be time based after evap reaches 32F. I presume this as the adjustment on the "digital" thickness adjustment equals "+/-90 seconds to freeze cycle". I'm not sure if I trust that method.
You’re right. Sorry for the bad information. Idk what I was thinking.
Great video thanks
Thanks
