I’ve so fallen in love with the terrific ensembles in this opera. Truly extraordinary, the way GR created these masterpieces, in Ricciardo and to a greater or lesser extent in all his other operas.

I absolutely LOVE all her recordings and live performances ! I use them daily with my students to show them what bad diction is. Singing on ONE pseudo-fits-all vowel and ONE consonant « W » is not good singing. Of course it makes it a lot easier when you ignore the words. But it is totally unacceptable.

This Is The Song That Boston Music Publisher Mr. Charles Bradlee Used To Create The Alphabet Song. (He used Mozart's Tune which Adam uses here) (Yes He Actually Is The One Who Gave It To American Schools To Use In Their Lessons Way Back In 1835!)

Couldn't agree more that it's a shame she practically avoided Rossini. What a voice for Rossini too! Even with Donizetti, recorded many excerpts but never the whole opera and what a missed moment. I know she loved the 'La Traviata' role but compared to Rossini and Donizetti, I'd pass on Verdi if it had been me. Can't change the past so grateful of the glimpses she provided on her albums.

I just listened to Jessica Pratt sing this. I have been looking for the whole opera and to say that one should be stuck with Pratt and the lackluster conductor of a (once) great orchestra is depressing. I would love to hear these operas as Sutherland and directed by great conductors but there’s absolutely no chance with Pratt

In French, Simoneau and his wife, soprano Pierrette Alarie, were sometimes called Monsieur et Madame Mozart, Mr and Ms Mozart Stylists. Simoneau also excelled in other styles of music. This is a very good example from 1959.

There is a long tradition of laments, since ever, in any culture of the world. Myself, I sometimes sing this song of German romantic composer Franz Schubert "Der König in Thule". The poem is from Goethe, who is, together with Schiller, the German Shakespeare. The poem has been set to music by, for example, Schubert, Liszt, Schumann, Silcher, etc. I discovered a pristine lamentation, likewise at the sea (as here at the end of the story), in Korean culture, see kzread.info/dash/bejne/i4msq5upiLmvc5s.html
