Perfect Performance People!
"16 Tons" was written by Merle Travis in 1946 and released in July 1947 by Columbia on his album Folk Songs of The Hills. Tennessee Ernie Ford released it in 1955 as the B side to his cover of "You Don't Have to Be a Baby to Cry."
This just kicks butt!! So freaking good!!
That was great. Im old enough to remember the original, the one with Tennesee Ernie Ford. I believe he would be happy that it is still appreciated.
I like this. I think Ernie would really like it.
16 tons equals 32000 pounds
I remember my father would sometimes spontaneously sing this song.
Taal is one of the best bassist!
absolutely beautiful , she sailed into the unknown lands and I love her
I appreciate this, but nobody can top Tennessee Ernie Ford.
Peace to earth... i d like to see him load 16 tons!!!
Yep knew this was Tal, I’ve admired her for a while. Love listening to her play the blues. Incredibly talented!
This song was in Merle Travis's album "Folk Song of the Hills" in 1947 - the same year Washington assaulted union workers with the Taft Heartly Act, because in 1946 was the closest the US ever came to a national strike. Millions of working people went on strike in 1946. Washington wanted to make sure that would never occur again.
Brilliant!
When I hear this song it reminds me of Big Bad John.
I remember watching Tennessee Ernie Ford singing this on live TV.
She can play!!!!!!!??
Very well done. I don't hear 16 tons often, but it's one of the songs that has always stuck in my brain. Thank you for this version also.
Classic still slaps, but this is great. Beck and ZZ Top? weird but perfect combo
Fantastic . I love it glad I ran across this!!!
Great stuff thanks. Chris from England
Man this is TOP shelf music. This is a Wonderful cover of a good song. Of course it doesn't hurt that two of the greats are doing this. Glad I found it.
Tal Wikenfeld . Brought the young energy to this, you can see how happy she is to jam this out
Glad I stumbled upon this video. Love it!
RIP DUSTIN AND JEFF
Some play it, most love it.
Prayers to the 70 miners in Taiwan following the 7.4 earthquake. When will man realize that mining is killing the Earth and all of her inhabitants? Sad world. We can do better.
I had that treat a number of years ago, Jeff Beck playing with ZZ Top in South Florida! That was one of the most amazing shows I ever went to, Jeff Beck was a musical genius far ahead this time! We will miss him sorely! Safe Journeys Jeff!
I have heard this song many times but not by ZZ Top and not recently, but change the lyrics for Canadians from Company store to CRA and it is fitting.
freakin' fabulous!
wow!
Loved it
So 😎 cool 👍
Don't that girl on base need a 3' foot Beard 😂😂😂
I used to love listening to this song when I was a youngster. I've always loved ZZ Top too. But this is the 1st time I've ever heard ZZTop do this song!
That's a nice homage, and a fun version. However, Tennesse Ernie Ford nailed it like no other.
What a combination of talent and an incredible cover.
If I'm not mistaken Tennessee Ernie Ford just covered it. The song was written and first recorded by Merle Travis. Wikipedia seems to agree with me.
Would have been cool if they could have played the clarinet riff from the original with a guitar. Otherwise it was pretty good
Thanks. Tap’er lite.
RIP DUSTY AND JEFF
Бесподобное исполнение. Это лучшее из тех какие я слышал.
