This is a truly touching story. This wonderful woman endured much yet, dedicated her life to others so courageously. Well done to the Duke of Edinburgh for taking her in at the end of her life. He was a good and proper son. Thank you for honouring this fine lady.

I find it hard to believe that Alice was completely deaf , in those days ,she would not been suitable marriage material and would probably be locked away . I worked with Deaf people and their whole outlook on life is very far removed from a hearing persons life. Helen Keller is the only person that managed to speak ,but it took years on a one to one. It’s also been said that Alice learned other languages . I think she had hearing issues but learned to speak , and her hearing got worse as the years went on .

Tastes differ! And judging people on how their face is formed (like with Sarah Tindale) is really NOT DONE. And last but not least not everybody is into lots of make-up, quite a few women - rich or not - prefer more natural looks, also on their wedding day.

It doesn't matter what YOU think about the dresses as they were chosen BY THE BRIDE, NOT YOU and it is THE BRIDE who is the one who needs to like the dress. Oh, and the wedding of the Duke of Westminster DIDN'T cost billions (unless you mean pennies that is) so perhaps stopping with the hyperbole/exaggeration/outright lies would be a good idea as well.

Prince Henrik loyally supported his wife for all the years they were married. It was only towards the end that he said things that raised eyebrows. Initially there was some consternation and condemnation in the public and among the media to his comments and actions, but once it was learned that he was suffering with dementia public sentiment quickly switched to one of concern and sympathy. He was a brilliant man with many talents and abilities. Author, artist, sculptor and musician in his own right. He was as creative as his wife. He was extrembly knowledgeable in many subjects, and had a deep sense of commitment to his role in life as a royal person. He worked hard to promote and support Danish interests. He was well educated, having worked as a French diplomat in London before he married the future Queen of Denmark. He spoke five languages fluently: French, English, Danish, Chinese and Vietnamese. He was a French count, although his family’s status as belonging to the French nobility seems to have been questioned in recent years. By the way Queen Margrethe is not dead yet ( as of July 2024). She decided to step down mainly due to health reasons and to leave the job as reigning monarch to her eldest son in January of this year. In Denmark, we don’t crown our monarchs. Instead there is a public proclamation from the balcony at the parliament building by the prime minister standing next to the new monarch. It was a joyous event watched by an estimated 300.000 people and millions more on nearly every Danish TV channel and plenty of foreign ones as well. The Queen’s decision to step down, eliminated the grief of loss on such an occasion as previously this proclamation happened quickly after the passing of the former monarch. The Queen wanted to spare her son this double burden. Now the proclamation became an event for celebration of our new King and expressions of gratitude to our Queen, who so faithfully has served her country and people for so many years. No one begrudges her the opportunity to rest, relax and to pursue her interests as any other retired person in Denmark. Unlike the Netherlands where former ruling queens revert to the title of Princess once they relinquish the throne, this is not the case with our Queen. She is still referred to as Queen Margrethe.

Princess Mary of Denmark & Lady Sarah Chatto - 2 of the best by a long long way. Also Victoria, Princess of Sweden for honourable mention. Princess Catherine’s dress made her look bone thin & was tooooo conservative. Her sister looked better on the day. Also, some crazy reason she did her own make up.. this was about 10 years ago and she wasn’t very good at it then.

Sorry, don't compare Beatrix with Margaretha from Denmark !!!!!!!!. Margaretha might be creative and expose herself as being that, openly with all that theatre stuff, Beatrix is more a personal, almost private, creator with sculpture. And I can asure you, she is extremely talented in this. I wish I could see more about what she makes. Maybe thats also the difference, Beatrix is, maybe, more modest and is actually more enjoying in what she create than needing to expose it... Making art is just depending of the joy of the maker in that what he wants to create than the success he/she can have with it
