    Thanks for the tuition. I have a Peavy 4000 with that pop sound when switching off now i was thinking of changing main power capacitors; can you advice if am on the right way to solve the problem?

  • @EdBesseler
    @EdBesselerАй бұрын

    Capacitors are very good candidates if the unit is defective, but it could simply be that whatever is feeding your amp is generating the noise that you amp is amplifying when you turn them all off. Try switching the source of signal off first and few seconds later turn the amp off. If the pop is gone, your amp is completely fine.

    Hi, thank you for the video. Would this work both ways? My PA system generates a pop when turned on before the mixer is turned on and also pops if I turn the mixer off before turning the amplifier off.

    I have a pair of active Genelec monitors, with the signal routed from the USB C output from my laptop, going over a Sound Devices MixPre-6 by XLR cable to a Genelec subwoofer, with 2 more XLR cables going to the monitors. I have no pops when turning the system on or off, but after listening for some time, I get sporadic nasty pops and crackles. All components and cables are new, including the laptop. I had no such problems in the same room with a much cheaper setup from Presonus...

  • @EdBesseler

    hmmm, can you correlate that to any electricity event that is happening on the house? Like fridge or AC turning on and off? or even lights or fans? I could just be noises from the electricity line. A good filter may resolve it if that is the case... but a little costly! You can also try lifting the ground of your power bar or Genelec only (if its 3 pronged plug). Many cases that resolves hums and noises. Now... worst case scenario would be a defect on your Genelec. Normally caused by capacitors on the power supply or amplifier stage. That's a bit more complex. If that's not your thing, I'd recommend taking it back to support. Let me know how it goes and good luck!

    Hi, i am experiencing a pop sound, but not from shutting down or turning up the speakers. The speakers would start fine, but then randomly the speaker would pop!! and it happened to all speakers , mixers, when i'ts still on. Sometimes the speakers would made a pop sound, but other times the MCB is tripped. How Do you know how this happened & what is the problem? thanks!

  • @EdBesseler

    Hey Pindo, do you happen to have an old refrigerator or any kind of electric motor on the same power circuit? I had a bad experience in the past trying to keep a mini fridge in my studio. Every time the compressor was turning on or off I could hear a pop on the speakers. I tried many types of filters but none where 100% effective. I ended up getting rid of the fridge. Try unplugging your refrigerator for a few hours while you test it. Cheers

    at first i thought it was something like that, since the problem started since we have a central air conditioning unit installed. I remember one day, turning on the AC then the speakers pop, but sometimes.. even when the AC unit is off, the pop still happens randomly. So i really have no clue if it's the AC unit or not.

    @@pindopurba intriguing 🤔 do you notice the pops more frequently when the power amp is warmed up or doesn’t matter? I’m thinking that could be a cold solder or Capacitor leakage

    Hey There... these are common modules in electronic stores or even Amazon. Look for Power Supply Power Supply Module Board and Module Relay Switch with OPTO Isolation. Brand does not really matter... I always look for reviews. The most important is that you power supply output matches with you relay module voltage. And that the current on the relay is higher equipment that will be hooked up to it. If you aren’t sure what to get yet, don’t hesitate to ask me again... I can help with the selection... cheers

From the newer stuff the Friedman has a big punch. If you can get both and test for you own choice... both have great resale market and none will break the bank. Hope it helps! Rock on 🤘🏻

    Hi thanks for information. I have the same problem with my AMP mostly on switching off but sometimes on turn on too. I just added a soft start for minimizing inrush current of transformer and since it has a same delay relay like you mentioned I thought it will help on pop sound but almost no change. I noticed you used the line before switch but i put it after switch for safety precautions. would you please advise why?

  • @EdBesseler
    @EdBesseler3 жыл бұрын

    Hey Amir! the reason I connected the line before the Main Switch is because I still wanna keep the signal processors energized after I turn off the switch, so it won't drive any surge to the power amp when it still on. If you keep it after, you are killing the all signals at the same time, maybe that's the reason you still have the issue and the surge may still happen. Don't worry about safety. The Relay on your soft start will do the job, just keep in mind that it will shut off in fraction of a second, so as long as you don't touch anything in that fraction, you are okay. Now, if you are talking about a single AMP (I was not so clear) it may require a little bit of schematic change. The soft start may act on the pre-amp only, while the power amp should be shut of with the main switch. If that's your case, let me know with amp it is and I can see if I can find the schematic and advise where to do the change. Cheers! Ed

  • @amirshokati6377
    @amirshokati63773 жыл бұрын

    @@EdBesseler Thanks Ed for reply. I did not know if preamp still working when amp is off will grab the surge (watched too many videos and nobody mentioned that :) ), in my case I have different transformers for pre amp and amp and since amp has bigger caps will hold the voltage for a few more seconds than preamp, and I can not increase the delay of soft starter relay for keeping preamp on due to block resistance of soft start power. So I am going to add another delay circuit to keep preamp on when amp is going to discharge. also I am thinking of a speaker protection which found here ( www.sound-au.com/project39.htm he has really great ideas) but first I will test this delay board. thanks man.

    I have a soundbar with a subwoofer it start to pop but not a loud a week ago. Do my soundbar need a repair or it's norml? Thank you.

  • @EdBesseler
    @EdBesseler3 жыл бұрын

    Hey Taha, pops are not supposed to happen, but there are a few things to consider before you call you subwoofer defective. If your woofer is popping while playing it may be interference on the power line. Motors are really bad if connected on the same power line, including refrigerators, specially old model ones. If that's your case pay attention if the pop happens when the refrigerator turns on or off. In that case Surge Protectors help, but may not eliminate the problem. If the pop happens when you turn on/off you can try to turn off your audio source (TV or DVD, etc) first and then turn off your subwoofer. If that fix the issue you may need a delay on the power source. But first try to use the optical connection, if you are not yet (most of soundbars and TVs have the optical connection option). Let me know which case is yours and we can deeper dig into the problem.

    Hmmm, one last thing... is there a way you can connect to the power without using the 3rd pin (ground)? I’m thinking that you may be having some ground noise. If that doesn’t help, most likely you have a problem on the subwoofer. Then if you wanna be bold and get into schematics I can give you some tips on what to look for.

  • @EdBesseler
    @EdBesseler3 жыл бұрын

    Taha ENNACIRI, if it’s something that started recently, there’s a chance that it can get worse. My recommendation would be to take it for service if bothers you, otherwise monitor for some time, if you still have enough warranty time, and decide later. If you have a Capacitor leakage issue, which I suspect, you will notice a difference with temperature, and that only gets worse overtime. I hope I have helped! Cheers!
