Irv is the sort of guy who gets out and about to film diverse subjects. From History to Farce, Irv is there to either capture History in the making, or possibly, to preserve History. There are no rules, or bounds, here. I do overfocus on railroad videos but that is a mere homage to my my families long time connection with the railroads. As a Chicago area resident, Irv has captured a lot of events like Police & Fire Action. Irv also gets out to Iowa Nebraska And Wisconsin and posts videos from those states. Think of Irv this way, you can get to your destination on the Interstate, or you can go by the old highway. With Irv, the longer route is the one one that reveals the treasures....!

Wonderful!!!!
Thank-You! The Wisconsin Southern just kept on moving the trains. This was the most that I have ever seen in such a short time span. Thank-You for viewing and commenting...!!!
I See A Detector :3
Great to meet and rail-fan with you!!
Hi! Yes, it was a good afternoon for trains, and talking about trains. I hope the rest of your trip goes safely. Thank-You for visiting Elmhurst Illinois. The place that we were watching from may soon get developed and this sort of train watching might be impossible in the future!
For the Algorithm!
For a "gate clip" this one turned out nice. Thank-You for viewing, commenting, as well as contemplating the algorithm.....
thanks nice video
I Thank-You very much for watching! Hopefully, with the nicer weather, I'll be able to get a greater amount of variety. Thank-You for viewing and commenting...!!!
Most of this land is now public works for Addison and a preserve run by Dupage county forest preserve I believe. From what I’ve heard most of the underground construction is buried and what was unable to be no longer accessible. Nature taking back what was hers it seems. Very nice piece of history right in some peoples backyard unaware.
Hi! I never thought about the bunkers very much. I just assumed that they were ripped out. However, it would make sense that the shutters would be removed and the open concrete box filled with dirt. I'm going to guess that they were in close proximity to the present day Test Well markers. Those are along the Public Works access road, near the tracks and not too far from Lombard Avenue. Overall, I believe that the radar was up on the hill, the launchers near Lombard Ave and the tracks, and base housing was located at the present site of the big Addison Public Works building. You got me thinking on this again! I wonder what they did with the missile bunkers? Thank-You very much for viewing and commenting...!!!
Where are the box cars coming from? The only thing i can think of is the recycling place in Addison?
What a compilation of Union Pacific Power... Nice job!
Thank-You!
just to see how my home town changed thanks 4 what u do
I should be thanking you for watching! Oh, Thank-You for viewing!!!

The steering on those steam tractors was used up until the 1970s on American cars
The way steering should be! Rack and pinion all the way.... Thank-You for viewing and commenting!!!
Irving, your fine videos have inspired me to make the drive from Ohio to railfan spots along the Chicago mainline in your area - like Hinsdale, Westmont, West Chicago. What spots would you recommend for someone like me (first time there) that you would consider 'must' see? I want visually attractive and interesting backdrops, signals, etc. Thanks Irving!
Hi! There are four lines that I know fairly well. The BNSF "Racetrack" at LaGrange Road is fantastic for freight, Metra, and Amtrak. Plus, you can walk a block east and there is the Indiana Harbor Belt. The CN's Freeport Sub is a underutilized set of tracks. I would suggest using Wolf Road for to travel about as the signal tower there might tell you if a train is near. The UPRR Chicago West Line at the Elmhurst Depot is always fun. I prefer going a few blocks west as I can sit in the car. Elmhurst can be uptight about parking so make sure you are not blocking Public Works or the UP dirt service road. Up at Franklin Park, you have three train stations to choose from. Furthest west, and practically in the yard, is the "Manheim" platform. Expressway construction will change this area in the near future. Check for old power just west of the viaducts. The main FP station sees a lot of trains but the Police don't want us on the platforms (if its busy). Still lots of misc places such as next to the Library. Franklin Park has a diamond for the CP & IHB. Just to the north is the Belmont Depot. This is another underutilized track but the view to the north goes on for miles. Watch for headlights. Those locations are the best for what I would describe as the "West Suburbs." There are many more and maybe someone else will chime in with suggestions.....?
USA вы объясните кто теперь судиться должен/надо? Железнодорожная компания с перевозчиком? Водитель с компанией трака? И это как минимум, USA.
Translation: USA, will you explain who should/should be sued now? Railway company with a carrier? Driver with a truck company? And this is at least the USA. My Reply: Hello! I doubt that there will be any sort of Civil Law suit. The violation would be a Criminal charge if that is what the railroad wanted to do. While it is obvious that the driver made a big mistake. I believe he did not get charges as he made an excellent case about the crossing not being properly marked with caution signs. A week after I filmed this the City put up warning signs. Great collection Thank you😊
Thanks for watching!
Great collection of tractors Thank you
I just love watching these machines. I lucked out as I was taken to the Thresheree Park almost sixty years ago and I am still in love with these steam tractors. Thank-you very much for viewing and commenting...!!!
What time and day does it usually pass Broadview/ North Riverside? Also do you know the schedule of any other trains that pass through that area?
Hi! The "Addison Local" does not have a set schedule. It is a M-F job and operates when a CN client needs some boxcars bumped. The last couple of weeks, the Local has been returning east, at Wolf Road around nine in the morning. (I'm still in bed when it goes west and I think that is anytime after six AM). In general, there is a 10:30 AM freight, a 1 Pm and a 3:30 PM freight. These times are general and I would recommend using a scanner or watching the signal at Wolf Road. I have spent the day out there, many times, and it can be hours between the trains. Thank-you for viewing and commenting...!!!
Now UPY 711 and UPY 729 are servicing entire Metra trains out at the Ogilvie station May 14-15
Thank-you! I'll start watching for the UPY# 711. Thank-You for viewing and commenting!!!

Translation: The freight train pulled by the linked locomotives is really cool. I subscribed to your channel. My Reply: Thank-You for viewing! This train was unusual for the line as it had the three different locomotives. Thank-You for viewing and commenting...!!!
Very cool, I'm glad I suggested you get out there and catch it as it left.
Me too!
First Class 👍
Thank-You! This was fun!
Muito diferente 😊
Si! It was a very unique day. Thank-You for viewing and commenting...!!! Muchas Gracias!
First Class, Great job! 🇨🇦🇺🇸
I'll tell you that previous recording at Bensenville really helped me along. I was kind of late in getting over to Bensenville and I picked my filming spot based upon the curve in the embankment. I got set up and I realized that the cameraman next to me was the Pro from the Final Spike Tour. I guess I picked the right spot!
there is no locomotive more beautiful than the CP 2816 Empress
I agree! Thank-You for viewing and commenting...!!!
I wish I could go out and watch that special train but I’m in Chattanooga, TN where I now live and don’t have plans to be back in the Chicago area until next month. At least I’m planning on attending the Franklin Park Railroad Days like I try to do every year, even after I moved away.
Rumor has it that UP 's Big Boy will be at Elomhurst in September!
@@ipfeldspar Oh that is awesome! I didn’t know that till I checked its fall schedule just now. I don’t know if I’ll be able to see that either but hopefully I do this decade.
Nice catch on the racetrack.
Thank-You! And, Thank-You for viewing and commenting!!!

Thank-You!
u dont do ride alongs in elmhurst
I'm not sure if that is a question or statement? In any case, I greatly appreciate you viewing and commenting....!!!!
is it me or was he kinda struggling getting up the hill
I'll agree. I think the the train climbs seventy five feet in the seven miles from Cicero to Hillside. It is not a prefect ascent as there are some viaducts and bridges that create dips. When the power is at Hillside, the tail end is somewhere in Broadview. I suspect that he started his run with too low a rate of speed and it caught up to him at the County Line? And, as always, Thank-You Very Much For Viewing And Commenting....!!!!
Cool tanker train!
On this one, the location really helps to make video pop. Thank-You for viewing and commenting!!!
u havent done any tour of my home town Elmhurst have liberty ky
A tour at Elmhurst or in Ky....?
That little mausoleum used to be open and you could walk into it. I went in a few times as a kid and it was always a little spooky, lol. Probably just as well they bricked it up.
Thank-You for that information! I was not aware it had been open. I'll guess, that like a lot of other cemeteries, this is a response to vandalism? Thank-You for viewing and commenting!!!

For the Algorithm
I Subbed you!
So basically it's just watching you drive around in the rain🙄
It's more fun to watch when all the really old guys are in the room. They'll reference places that have been gone for fifty years. However, when they saw the damage, they were pretty horrified. One of these guys used to live a block from that corner. The driving is nothing more than a tour, but is does allow for a sense of things in real time.
Nice catch!
Thank-You! This one was total luck as I usually don't go up into them hills! The video location is a couple of miles north of the DesPlaines River and two canals. There are pretty good sized bluffs next to the water and this train had to climb, and then descend, that track. I'm usually on the other side of the river where there are two different main lines. I usually don't go north as there is little chance of seeing anything. On this day, I had time and I just lucked out. I would like to record the trains going up that bluff! Thank-You for viewing and commenting!!!

Yup, that’s a sho’nuff train.
Sometimes that Metra power looks like steam power!
Oh my goodness, this just brought back childhood memories. I used to watch your metra videos all the time when I started getting into railfanning in 7th grade haha. Now im about to turn 25 & glad to see you’re still making awesome videos! Definitely gonna have to catch up on your recent ones!
Hi, Thank you for tuning back in! Yup, I'm still tasking pictures of trains (and other stuff). Please take a peek at the Playlists as that will help navigate through the four thousand videos.... Thank-You for viewing and commenting!!!
What rail line is or was that owned it? I see in the distance a bridge for I-90 or I-294.
That is Cn's Freeport Sub at Hillside Illinois. This is the old Illinois Central Railroad "Iowa Service" and these tracks run through the west suburbs of Chicago Illinois. The viaduct, is for the Tri-state Tollway, Interstate I-294. At Hillside, these tracks are very close to I-290, the Eisenhower Expressway.
CN? looked more like BNSF but with CN crew is what you meant? Rockford thought that was UP area? that tarp looked like it was gonna fly off
Hi, Yup, BNSF power on a CN train. These tracks do to Rockford and UP is up there also. I think the tarp cars were garbage haulers. I sure hope they can keep those tarps in place! Thank-You (again) for viewing and commenting!!!
I say AWSOME shot it's train bringing the new day😊
Thank-You! That is so good that I might steal it for a title! Thank-You very much for viewing and commenting!!!
I remember the branch line that was West of Harlem that went North to Service some Industry in Forest Park. Stopped many times on Cermak Rd. on that local job.
That was the line that went a few blocks north? The right of way is still there but trashed out and overgrown with weeds. This is the former branch line where Chicago mobster Frank Nitti tried to shoot himself (it was an inept attempt). That branch must have had a manual switch and I bet the good people of Berwyn enjoyed those stopped trains...!!! Thank-You for viewing and commenting!
