I live just up the road from the De Haviland Aircraft Museum in Hertfordshire where the Mosquito was designed. Less than a minute from Junction 22 of the M25. A must for any Mosquito fans. such a shame there are so few airworthy specimens left.

Understanding that it was a full time job for even a good pilot to fly one of these magnificent aircraft … now throw in doing a low-level high speed bomb run, or dodging German fighter aircraft, or avoiding enemy anti-aircraft fire, you can just imagine how incredible the pilots were back in the 1940’s.

The success of the Spitfire was due to ongoing development of an extraordinarily sound basis of airframe + engine. This is doubly true, and then some, of the mosquito. The Spit gets the Oscars red carpet for its grace. The Mossie? Every F1 podium!

It was. So fast and so light, , it carried no armaments and few could keep up let alone catch it.

A close friend's father flew Mossies as a navigator, being transferred to a Pathfinder squadron after a tour on Wellingtons in which his plane suffered damage several times but, due to its immense strength, managed to get them home every time. His Mossie never even suffered a scratch in 2 tours. He always said that that plane saved his life.

only the British would put the landing gear handle to the right of the pilot when he has a control stick.

An elegent "warbird" for a more civilized age. Born just after WW2, the sight and sound of "classic" warbirds brings back childhood memories of staring out of my bedroom window, watching the "movements" at Hendon Aerodrome, prior to Jets replacing "REAL" aircraft.

I am English, and very old. The sight and sound of these aircraft is music to my ears, and quite emotional too. I had an uncle who flew the Mosquito, as a”pathfinder”, to drop flares on the target before the bombers arrived, and to photograph the results of the raid. He survived the war.

I am Canadian. And very old. My dad, who came from a small town in North Ontario flew 2 tours in a Mossie. He flew in the Battle of Britain. He was a squadron leader and a DFC holder. He also was awarded a Caterpillar medal - the small medal given after a pilot’s life is saved by a parachute. I also get quite emotional watching this and my respect for what these brave young men did grows deeper every year. All the best from a Canadian friend.

Any person that get's to climb on board a Mosquito and go for a ride is one lucky individual. VERY VERY few people in the world today get to ride (or even more rare, actually take the controls and PILOT) in a Mosquito. There are only a few of these even airworthy in the entire world. Very lucky indeed. Although incredibly dangerous and at great peril to your own life, it must have been one hell of a thrill to fly this bad boy on sorties in WWII, especially for a young man just out of their teens or in their early 20's. de Havilland were at the top of their game when they built this.
