Why do you cover the serial number of the lenses? Its not like its a state secret or anything. Its a 30+ year old lens.

this video was extremely helpful. i bought this lens on ebay and it came in with the grease completely dried and more similar to glue than grease. i was able to get it into fully functioning shape with help from this vid (the assembly is different to other lenses i've taken apart)!

Is it safe to dismantle this lens for cleaning? Just acquired one with lots of fungus inside.

Thank you for the test. My Takumar 50/f1.4 and Takumar 55/f1.8 are both radioactivated, the 1.4 being yellowed heavily such that it is visible as soon you remove the lens cap. I choose however not to treat them. I have several other 55&55 lenses and it is okay to keep the charm of these lenses.

Just bought a pentax Spotmatic f with this lens. Model number is 7426944. Im guessing all copies of the SMC TAKUMAR 55mm F1.8 from the late 60s/early 70s aren't radioactive?

  • @sapienproductions

The SMC is better built but for IC the Jena is the winner here.

Thanks for making this video. It would be really helpful, if only I could reach the screws. My focussing helicoid is stuck fast, like this one. However, the aperture index ring is not split, like this one, and I don't want to have to break it. Do you have any other suggestions? Cheers

I'm impressed you were able to re attach the aperture assembly while installing that little screw/spring assembly. I had trouble doing that since the 4 mount screws were stuck with loctite. I had to unlatch the spring and re attach it afterwards. You make great videos btw!

one would expect the f2 to have a slightly smoother bokeh wide open because it cuts off some of the ringing on the edge of the bokeh ball

Hi there. I recently picked up a used vivitar 90mm f2.5 macro lens. The aperature blades do not appear at all when i turn the aperature ring. I saw u had a video for an elicar 90mm macro for canon mount. The lens i got was a nikon f mount. Any idea on how to go about disassembly to fix it? I cant find anything online😢

Just got some fungus covered lenses and took one apart before I figured out I had to mark where the helios screwed in. It's a pentacon and I'm in a bad situation where I'm trying to put the lens back so that it's not too far in or out so that I can calibrate it. At least I know now for the other 5 lenses 😆

Thank you for your video. Setting the infinity focus stop, is exactly whats needs to happen to my lens. Do you know how to set this? Do I need to vile down the stop on the black ring, or is there a more elegant way of doing this?

I think I have the exact same adapter. The alignment on mine isn't off by nearly as much, maybe a 30° offset to the left. It also sits quite solidly in the mount. Maybe I got lucky with quality control

I guessed wrong on two images. Loss of contrast its serious in some cases. Not necessarily a useless lens, especially since the center seems to be good.

Nice effort, however it is much easier to put the whole aperture cartridge into isopropyl alcohol bath and clean the whole thing without blade disassembly. I had done it this way to my 5.5cm f1.8 Yashinon-DX lens, which came attached to my Yashica J-5 vintage camera. The aperture was oily and uncooperating, but it is crispy and snappy now. Just need to make sure to temporarily remove the coil spring from the aperture lever, so you may close the blades to f22 as you let the IPA evaporate. If they dry in fully open position (f1.8), some ugly stains form on blade surfaces. That way the aperture will retain factory look. Whenever you reassemble the aperture blades it is never in their original position, which over time allowed them to develop unique scratch patterns. Once you reassemble the blades they do not look right on their surfaces. Thanks for sharing you valuable work.
