I;m wondering how I'm going to pull this off with two rack toms mounted to the kick,
Wtf hahaha check how other dudes recording with the sm57 and sounds excellent
This is amazing for IEM mixer where we can just use one mic channel for the drum and front of the house can mic as per the venue size and requirement.
Mmmm yammmmy lecca lecca 😅
Yes you need all that stuff if you don't want buy other 4/5 different unit after warm audio and because it will take you away to open tons of plug in
im gonna try this but try it with the wilkinson omni ring
This bus+ has 5000 functions apparently, but too distracting for my taste. I prefer the simple bus comp, it does what it's supposed to. With a good mix I wouldn't have to worry about using 40 more knobs trying to make it sound "better". That warm audio sounds great. And you put a setting on it and you don't see it again. And yes, if you have the money for that bus+ great, but I feel like I can live without it. (and the same for the ssl fusion rack) 🤷🏻♂
Is this warm bus comp. O.K. for a mastering comp. for edm music, or it's just "safe" to use it on a mix bus, all else is just a lottery? :))
Some good information but the presentation is a little too random and disorganized.
Thanks for the note Thomas. We tend to do everything live with no editing, so things can jump around a bit. 😅
Yeah, it's a bit frustrating for an hour of total length vs just a few minutes of A/B examples, and un-annotated. He didn't let the A/B play past halfway through - twice in a row - so wondering why the verse was recorded... _twice(?)_ It could save a lot of people a lot of time to do a 15-20 minute edit with a few paragraphs of text and/or graphics to replace the ramble about signal path and the test-tones.
What in the flaming hell lol. It's almost like the SSL is working with stems. The authority it has over the drums is so clear and defined, while still presenting a defined and open mix. Almost like magic lol. Warm wasn't there at all.
I also have the warm bus comp and I hesitate to sell it to replace it with the bus+ that I would like to combine with the ssl fusion that I already have. Will it make a real difference for me to make the switch or not?
The Bus+ has a larger feature set, is more versatile, and can handle more genres. Is it worth upgrading over the Warm? That depends on you and how much use you would get over the extra features. If you mix a lot of different genres, I would say yes. If not, and the Warm is doing it’s job for you, I would save that money for other things.
in fact, I'm a professional sound engineer, so when I have clients, they often have a lot of different musical genres... so yes, it can be interesting to get on the bus+ because in fact, I finalize all my mixes with fusion and comp bus so far… but on some genres the comp bus goes moderately… so if the + bus brings more possibilities on different genres of music then I'm very interested. Otherwise, when I'm doing my own kind of music, the comp bus works pretty well because before I was using wave's ssl comp plug-in. I just wanted to upgrade to a hardware version.
@@ironperezimorxrecords1208 the D-EQ alone is worth the ticket.
blue is a clean classic
I would buy Tegeler Creme instead of Bus+
Have Bus+ plus Fusion on the 2Buss and Tegeler EQP1 following. More tweakability on the VCA compressor, with some colour as needed, with that lovely heft that a stunning Pultec clone delivers. Not expensive overall.
i have both and i use them in 2 different stages.....bus + with ssl fusion on 2 bus situation creme in mastering
I would've like to hear multiple genres of music also. I own the BURL and DANGEROUS CONVERT. Ordering the WARM,... it sounds better on so many comparison footage. Your example was the best. Very well done,...
Enjoyed this. Thank you for taking the time. Also an owner of a Bus+.
I hope some of the info was helpful!
@@somni_studios absolutely
Not sure the SSL brings enough to the table for it's massive price increase over all the other ssl comps on the market . but if budget is no concern its very nice .
If you wanted to use The Bus+ for just its 4k mode, it probably wouldn’t be my first choice given the price. But it does have many tweak-able options and extra features, making it a powerhouse to work with all kinds of music. Just comes down to what you want out of a bus compressor
just with mid/side,and dual mono and stereo option option there's no way to comparate the 2....without mension the other features ...bus + win hands down.....probably you guys are missing something and don't understand what bus+ it is....warm audio is just a compressor that's it
Awesome Sauce, glad I found you~
I've always said, that H30 speaker is the closest they've come to a blue with a ceramic speaker
I have heard that in all the comparison videos and just thought nothing of it until you said it !
It's true
And the 3rd place is the Seventy 80.
@@auntjenifer7774 very close aren't they? I have compared them on the same amp on the same room and was amazed at how close they were.
@@mike42356 in a way yes.
Hmmm. Maybe combined with a recorderman setup and a kick mic. It's a bit thin now.
It can be a great placement to get all the drums for demos, or use it as a “color” mic in combination with other close mics.
What about if you had a larger drum setup? I feel like if you use this technique along with your typical close mics and overheads, the "Wurst" would be a perfect alternative to ambient/room mics on drums.
You can certainly use it as a “color” mic! Distort it, compress the s*t out of it, throw it into a reverb pedal…. The uses are endless!
At school I liked using it almost like you would a parallel compression aux. I slammed it with the SSL bus comp and blended it it for body

Great method! I use this method all the time; always works!
I wonder if wide cardiod will help bring the toms out more?
You can definitely use a wider pattern. Just remember you will also pickup more cymbals as well. Its fun balance to get the sound you are looking for.
What if you have a cowbell over the bass drum hoop? It wont have a negative effect?
Give it try and see how much cow bell you get! You might need to push the mic in a little further toward the snare, or raise your cowbell up away from the mic a bit. In the end, if you have a fever, the only prescription is more cowbell!
then you'll have a free close mic cowbell too!
Is there anything a sm57 can’t do? Sm57 for office 2024
I mean it kinda already is since yk the white house has used them since the 60s
yesssss
nice sound!
Great sound! What processing did you do on the sound sample at the end?
The last example is just the sm57 in the "Wurst" position! No added eq or compression
@@somni_studios That was a truly fantastic sound! Thanks for the video!
Very nice sound you got there.
Thank you kindly!
Aye go check out my boy 4bg rollin he fire ong
This was really cool to watch. I never thought to run white or pink noise through those to analyze what they had done freq response wise to model those desks. Thanks for sharing.
Glad it was helpful!
Hi!! Great job on the channel. Have you thought about using smzeus . c o m to help you grow your channel!?
Great video! Super informative on a really important process. This is a great reference video to have clients watch before sending audio files. Thanks for doing this!
Outstanding! What a great body of work you two have created over the years. Fun, enlightening and entertaining - thank you!!
Wow! That's amazing hearing the variations in tone between those set ups!
Thanks for listening
"Dead cat, mouse, fuzzy". Lol those are great choices!
