    This was their first big hit and quite controversial at the time . They went on the be the biggest band in the world at one time . There was an award show where they presented Oasis with an award and that idiot Gallagher called them has beens . Michael then went back to the studio and re recorded the lyrics of Elegantly wasted to Better than Oasis . I know who people will still be listening to in another 50 years .

    They went to the US but got the short end of the stick so they came home and wrote "You got nothing I want" to stick it up them (the US music scene). The US missed out badly. They're ours anyway.

    I thought this reaction was really good at identifying one of the qualities that separated Michael Hutchence from other highly-regarded frontmen (although I’ll quibble with the ‘not magnetic’ descriptor). Many energetic frontmen have a sort of spastic (or, “bag full of cocaine”, if you will) quality to their onstage movements. Freddy Mercury is a great example. Michael’s style was more fluid and (to me, at least) organic. Some singers charge the stage. Others parade on it. Michael seemed to, I don’t know if ‘slither’ is the right word, or maybe ‘glide’. Not that one style is better than another. It all comes down to preference. But, if that particular style is what you like, no one did it better than Michael Hutchence.

    Fair quibble! What I don't think I expressed properly in my frenzy is that Hutchence (can I call him Hutch?) was so much more SMOOTH than the hard rock of the instrumentalists--which was a very, very winning combination in my mind. Hutchence didn't have "LOOK AT ME!" energy, and very wisely didn't try to gin that up to match the rest of the band. I liked the mysterious tight pantsedness in contrast with the big ball of energy.

    INXS were one of the best live bands in the world at this time. Musician magazine said they were: "the best live band in the world." This is one of their older songs and the essence of their early sound. Michael Hutchence oozes charisma and sex appeal. The whole band is tight af and jammed their butts off all concert. You really need to check out What You Need from this show or New Sensation see them in full flight! I loved your reaction!

    Even if you know the song 'What You Need' you should still watch the live performance of it from this concert - even if just for yourself. Or better yet - the whole concert - it's not just the songs - it's the performance of the whole band with Michael Hutchence leading the way that is mesmerising. They just look like they are also having the best time up there.

    INXS were the masters of taking simple elements and making it complex and catchy AF. They were the best live band on the planet for a stretch in the late 80s early 90s. I was fortunate enough to see them a few times, and even met and hung out with the band a couple times in the 90s. Check out New Sensation from this same concert.

    Very good talk! Thank you very much! When you speak about the Billie Eilish aesthetic, it is really the Billie and Finneas aesthetic! In this partnership Billie comes more and more to the fore and Finneas supports her in whichever way possible. Quite a few people have speculated about Billie working with another producer but, why?( not saying it wouldn't be interesting) Billie Eilish is a Band, carried in equal parts by Billie and Finneas. They organically go where ever they wish to go!

  • @odellm
    @odellm17 күн бұрын

    Agreed, it's a crazy wish for anyone that appreciates how great Billie Eilish music is. Like, hey, the Beatles are great but they've put out three albums. They should break up and see what they can do apart! Who would have wished for that? Makes no sense. I think it comes from some incorrect ideas about what a producer is. Billie is the singer, and she's a great one. But that is not what Billie Eilish music is about. That's just signing. Everything you hear are the compositions of two people, Billie & Finneas. He's not just turning buttons and adding sound effects.

    My wife and I were at this concert and the song always brings me to tears every time I hear it as it brings back memories of a close cousin who passed away in 1999. The song was released in 1980 and I had the pleasure of performing it as a duet in some concerts with my cousin in the early to mid 1990's. I will admit we were not as good at John and Olivia but we still got a standing ovation from the audiences.

    Your response has bought tears to my eyes. Your reaction is like so many others who feel like they have missed out on someone very special. I am an Aussie, and I did too, because although John is an Aussie, I have listened to and heard him most of my life, I just sort of took him for granted, knowing how good he was but sort of assumed that the rest of the world knew that as well. Its only recently I found out that he wasnt known globally. It gladdens me to know know that John is getting a new following, albeit 30 years too late

    This album is meant to serve as a musical education of the African Americans historic place w/in Country music, which would sound like Irish Folk (great in It's own right, mind you) if it weren't for the Blues & Gospel of the enslaved Africans. This includes the BANJO, which was created by enslaved Africans in the Caribbean then, later brought to The States. Yes, the banjo wasn't created by the Appalachians but by Africans. I could also go into the Black artists that many of the earlier big name white country artists learned from then portrayed as their style.... as it was with Elvis and Black artists like Roy Hamilton, Big Mama Thornton, Chuck Berry and Sister Rosetta Tharpe - The Godmother of Rock & Roll, but it would take awhile. ;) Beyonce adds a bit of those artists work into this album as well. Her last few projects have been a meld of grand musical production, a mosaic of Black History and how the two interconnect. It appears that Beyonce is in a period of the Reclamation and Rejoicing of African American Culture, trying to correct the record due to the erasure and gate keeping whilst also trying to push The Culture forward in Unity, Knowledge and Beautiful Experiences and Conversations. 😎 It's what she's become known for. The Superficial and surface level won't fully appreciate this album over the more curious and expansive minded.

    I told a friend to parent you have 27 swatches of red fabric cut from the same roll. And for each one you did a little bit or a lot a bit of changes… at what point is the cloth no longer “red”… and that is what this album is. Someone digging into country and adding elements to it to explore their own sound

    Beyoncé uses her albums to tell a story. It’s like watching a movie. You wouldn’t want to come in 1/4 of the way through, leave and then come back to watch the end or have people to tell you the best part and then go in just to watch that part of the movie. It’s weird, because I didn’t realize that until I watched someone react to her entire Lemonade album recently. Having said all that, let me give you an overview of the movie that is Cowboy Carter: This whole album is in response to how she was treated at CMA. American Requiem is telling them about themselves. She researched and it took over 5 years for her to develop this album. The album is full of history and reclaiming music that black people/ slaves started, but were kicked out of once it became popular. Blackbird was written by Paul McCartny to give black women/girls hope during the Civil Rights movement . He saw how they were being treated. That’s why all the singers on the song are black women. The others are four black female country singers. Let’s just point out that Country radio has an issue with playing black artists so Beyoncé told everyone about her new venture during the Super Bowl then dropped two country songs. The Bey Hive activated and most country stations played her music. But to top it off, her album is presented as it’s own radio station with country legends presenting her music. This Album was meant to be Act I. This was Beyoncé’s response to how she was treated at the CMA. The requiem funeral procession was trying to let us know that Country Music was rooted and started by blacks. If you look into the history, it started by people putting on black face for minstrel music making fun of the slaves with their banjos. Then people who are credited with starting country, came to black street artists to learn their craft. Once it became big, black people were pushed aside and they started gate keeping the genre. Same thing happened with rock & roll, jazz, blues, and many of the genres that are considered to have been started in America. Thus, Beyoncé is reclaiming all of the music that we’ve been kicked out of that we helped create. It’s why this album delves into all those genres and ends with her buckin breaking down walls and asking if we can hear her now. Then she says that we are the ones who have to clean ourselves of our father’s sins to end the funeral procession .
