Oh boy, I have so many negatives with my home’s curb appeal I don’t know where to begin. A. My home entry facade faces north. B. My home is in the mountains and surrounded by trees. C. The driveway is asphalt and goes up to the home exterior. D. I have a propane tank and a fuel oil tank against the front of my home. Help 🤷♀
First I would learn about which understory trees & shrubs grow in your zone & neighborhood. Try to use native or native adjacent types for easy care. Checking out what's growing in your community is a great way to see how big plants actually get & look in shade or sun. The fastest way to block a propane tank or other undesirable objects is with a small fence with a vine growing up it but make sure there's plenty of clearance around it and access so the propane can be refilled.

Window boxes for the cottage! I was thinking that about for our cottage, then you went on to say you were doing that with yours! Sweet! I can’t do much planting in the front of it, because it’s off a main highway and a fire hazard from cigarettes. 🤷🏻♀️ Like, it’s right up against the main road!

Those aren’t colours. I have green-grey walls, cobalt blue walls, burnt umber walls, and an exposed yellow brick wall. I didn’t consult any corporation for advice. You can do colour or you can’t.

How do you feel about fake plants?
I don’t use them often in my home, except for Christmas I do a faux tree and garland indoors because we decorate so early! I usually try to do real plants or floral stems clipped from the garden in our home, but I know that’s not easy for everyone, especially if people have to travel or are away from their homes often. I feel like there’s some great faux options out there, and you have to just do what works best for you and your Lifestyle!
I wish I could utiliize my patio more. The mosquitoes here in coastal Texas are brutal!!

Ha! It was a chipmunk!! My husband feeds them everyday and we have one that’s made a home under the sink in our outdoor kitchen. ❤

Your outdoor space is just fabulous. We live in a small joined home and we don’t have a yard. However. We have a beautiful view of the Rocky mountains from our deck. So we extended our deck. It’s our favorite space. We call it our “lanai”. 😂

Wow! All of your work with the design of your construction is superb. Thank you for sharing. This is one of my favorite outdoor builds I have ever seen! So much to be inspired by. BTW, here in Georgia (zone 8a) I do not pull my dahlias each year because we don't get cold enough to damage them with freezes.

I love the sound of moving water and suggest adding a small bubbler or birdbath with moving water to the garden. I have a pond in the back and I plan to add a small feature in the front where I can watch birds bathing while drinking my morning coffee and enjoying the sunrise.

Not at all!!! The only birds that perch on them are the little hummingbirds that come every year, and I love to see them sitting on the wires!
