What are you talking about, Earth doesn't exist in Star Wars? Every single Star Wars movie since 1977 prefaces that it does. "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away" implies that the reader/viewer understands the time and setting of the story which is about to unfold. Thus, it making Earth a reference point to that time and setting.

No one disrespected the Star Wars saga more than its creator himself. George Lucas literally mutilated the original films with these reissues and blocked any possibility of us seeing their original versions. What was Star Wars seen in 1977? We will never know, because it was during that period.

The bad part is that here in the Philippines, when I was a kid, Hollywood movies typically took 1 to 3 months (sometimes longer) to be shown here after U.S. theatrical release. Strangely, a pocketbook-sized Empire Strikes Back comics adaptation showed up in my school's library months before the movie's Philippine release and students were all over it. I never got my hands on it because it was always borrowed out. So everyone already read it and my classmates spoiled everything to me. I overheard them ethusiastically talking about Vader's revelation and shit even if they haven't seen the movie yet. So when I finally got to watch it, the Vader revelation had less impact. But I still loved the movie and I still think today it's the best SW movie ever.

It still lacks some dubbed audio one version had in 1977, like Luke yelling NO!! when he was taken again by Dianoga under the water. That audio is on 4K release restored by fans, including the different dialogue when stormtroopers checking the closed door in Mos Eisley, different tone of Beru Lars speaking about Luke to her husband, and SHUT THE BLAST DOOR! saying twice by stormtroopers, not just once. C-3PO explaining to Obi-Wan where is the main reactor which holds the ship and more hearable thousand of voices when Alderaan is destroyed. To have all of these you need to have this edition only. Not even 2006 DVD bonus dvd will give you that.

Am I the only one that notices that the 4K77 has a cropped image? The bottom particularly is slightly cropped (look at the shot of the planet @ 2:09 or the shot of R2 @ 3:11).

I like some of the additions for sure, but man... it was that age when they started using more CGI and testing it´s boundries so everything is moving all the time and overly animated

It rubs me the wrong way when people call the 2011 Blu-ray the ‘Special Edition’. Special Edition is a term that only applied to the 1997 versions of the OT. The 2004 DVD and 2011 Blu-ray are different versions from the Special Edition.

When I was a kid I was kind of wowed by the changes that were made to Cloud City, but now I realize that these changes really change the whole tone and the feel of the place in a way that might not benefit the story. In the story, Cloud City functions as a false refuge that is really a tempting trap. The old designs where you rarely see the outsides makes it feel more like a trap. It was still way more polished and nice looking than most Original Trilogy Star Wars locations. It made you feel finally safe. But once you learn the truth, not seeing the outside can make you feel more trapped.

Adywan’s version is just better in every way. It’s honestly what the special editions should have been. All his decisions make the film a smidge more immersive in a completely unobtrusive way.

That's the worst thing about all altered editions by George: Everything he "aprooved" looked worse than ever! Jabba in Episode IV, then the updated, yet even faker looking Jabba on the DVDs, this puffy-looking halloween-masked Episode III - McDiarmid... could've made the Prequels less fake-looking for less money, instead of poorly inserting instantly dated effects into classical movies. Long story short... I like this effect here. But it's not part of my unspecializeds blu-rays, so...

I like the Adywan version more. He looks closer to how he looked in ROTJ which would make more sense than him looking like he did in Episode 3. Also like how his face is a little more concealed.

Adywans look more natural color. love the additions too. Harmy I watched many times. He did a really great job too. In fact best I seen them, it is jsut I don't have a new hope in HD for adywan. I wish it was easier to get these and I want the RTN oof the jedi renewed.
