    I cleaned mine while all connected moving the flaps multiple times and right after did the seafoam 5 minute spray once I hooked the intake back up and had no problems with calibration or problems. I'm not a mechanic but I don't think it would cause any problems especially with the car off and no key in. Maybe if you have the key in the on position it could mess up the calibration temporarily but it relearns on its own all the time as I understand. Just my own experience but I'm not claiming it's the right way

    That was a very informative and interesting teardown. I have a 4l60e that has driven me nuts with no shift to 2nd to 3rd period. All I have is 1st and 2nd gear. I can't figure out what is causing it? Thank you for your expertise. I appreciate it greatly! Jeff

    Great video!! I'm 70, never had a vehicle in a shop. I'm rebuilding my first tranny, and am having a blast. Was wondering, what did the pump look like? Thanks.

  • @randallstewart8487
    @randallstewart84872 жыл бұрын

    Anytime you tear one down you should rebuild the pump if it is rebuildable,it may be but anytime you have a lot of metal from gear/bearing failure a lot of fine metal particles gets pumped through out the entire transmission and oil cooler too,which should be replaced also,if where the pump rotor and vanes turn inside the pump arent damaged with grooves and gouges,if running a finger or finger nail over it and can feel any thing other than smooth,its pump time,that one may be gone!

    Gotta 1999 gmc suburban k 1500 4l60e trans, lost all forward gears but reverse is perfect and no whining noises or nothing, just stopped going forward. I changed the filter and brand new fluid about 2 months ago, it was running better then ever, changing gears no rough changes no nothing, no warning, gears was shifting perfect, I was driving normal all day on it, then all of a sudden no forward gears. I seen a video or 2 that said it could be just the check ball in the valve body stuck in the fluid hole that allows fluid into the forward gear slot.

    This is not my area of expertise, however the transmissions that I have some experience with can't be put on a bench but require a fixture rated around 30 tons. The case alone would be around 1 and a half ton. The ease of disassembly of this 4L60-E is remarkable, I could tell toward the end as you were about to remove the rear clutches that the output shaft had a lot of slop. The planet assembly must have failed first resulting in uneven pressure on the roller bearing deforming the bearing races and allowing the rollers to fly 'into the works' This must have happened at high speed or the rollers would not have shattered and larger chunks of gearing would have broken loose. This is speculation in that I, of course, couldn't examine the parts directly, but your assumption is basically correct. That truck was rode hard and put away wet!

    Well, I had the same problem yesterday. I ordered TP 50 but cant wait for delivery as I need to find out what is wrong with my 4L60E. So I just weld Nuts on top of bolts and removed them. I thing it is easier then to drill them out. I took a part transmission and discovered that rear planet assembly is broken and you can imagine the damage .

    Hey Steven, I read a few of the comments and found one comment dissing you. FORGET THAT COMMENT BROTHER. There is always one guy making some claim of having 20yrs experience. Funny it is always the same exact and perfect number of 20yrs isn't it? Well Steven I have been working on cars since I was 15 on the Ranch, 66 yrs old now...we had to, no money for mechanics so we did everything ourselves. You did a fairly good job and can hold you head up HIGH, so don't listen to those pretenders. Let those comments run off Brother. I've managed to rebuild a few 4L60e in my day and still do a few. You presented a good video and it should help a lot of people. ONE THING TO KEEP IN MIND; Any builder that claims to know it all is one to stay away from. They have the attitude they know it all and that my friend keeps them from learning new technics and most importantly getting better. I still look for new techics and ways to do things differently. Even tho I claim to have mechaniced for all these years I still don't claim to know it all. I've got so many certificates there's no room to hang them on one wall of the shop...that sill doesn't make me better than anyone else. It just shows I took the instruction and passed their test. It takes more than passing a written test to be a good mechanic...remember that!!!!! Bottom line here; This is a good video and anyone claiming different has their own issues they need to work out. Anyone that really knows anything about rebuilding knows there is always a better way and any real mechanic worth his salt is always looking for that better way. It's funny the little things I've learned from novice mechanics that don't even shave yet. Don't let pride stand in the way of learning from anyone. The thing is this, You are the mechanic you are by the experiences and knowledge you pick up along the way. You learn from this source and that source and you blend them into YOUR routine. Ever notice not two good mechanics do everything the exact same way yet seem to get the same results? Good Video Steven.
