It is now automatic, and applicable to not just men between the ages of 18-26 who are citizens, but to any man living in the country between those ages. So if you are here on a work visa, guess what, you can be drafted. But beyond that, there was a silent amendment to women being included as well. I have to do more reading on that point. It might be segregated draft duty. Like not front line work, but work on the base as mechanics or something similar.

This report among others were released a few weeks prior to the ABC/Hulu docuseries Keeper of the Ashes being released in what I can only imagine was an attempt at driving views to the documentary. The case remains unsolved and a new investigation was opened by the Cherokee Nation Marshal Services. Due in part to the SCOTUS ruling in McGirt v. Oklahoma they now have jurisdiction on the case since the crime was committed on tribal land.
