We need more of this fresh, fearless, and forward-looking performances in the classical music. Aside from his originality, I really appreciate how Mikhail Bouzine played through his repertoire without breaking away from the “performance zone,” as if the three pieces (Bach, Beethoven, and Liszt) were part of a single thread of thought.

Not really. His Mazeppa was sloppy and neurotic. Too many missed notes (even on the easier passages) and an overemphasis on virtuosity rather than musicality.

  • @ericrouach

@@Algorox may be but his Beethoven was worth a million "perfect" performances of Mazeppa. Pogorelich also played a quite "dirty" Chopin sonata in 1980.

I'm not too familiar with mazeppa and it sounds a bit different at the start to your other version? Is that an improvised version? Or a different edition? Also you should have stood up during it like last time 😂

actually it's a completely different reference, an allusion on ogiński's polonaise »les adieux à la patrie«, which is widely known in eastern europe. i've both performed it (kzread.info/dash/bejne/fGiKuK6OkarIpMo.html) and used the main riff in a version of yoko ono's overtone piece (kzread.info/dash/bejne/gmqWpseulbjdido.html)

I loved your courageous and innovative mind very much! It might not always be the most convincing interpretation, but it's far better and more enjoyable than repetitive "good mannered" approach of many participants. Please continue to riot in boring competitions and shock old juries. also loved the funny intro, love from Japan :)
