We need more of this fresh, fearless, and forward-looking performances in the classical music. Aside from his originality, I really appreciate how Mikhail Bouzine played through his repertoire without breaking away from the “performance zone,” as if the three pieces (Bach, Beethoven, and Liszt) were part of a single thread of thought.

Not really. His Mazeppa was sloppy and neurotic. Too many missed notes (even on the easier passages) and an overemphasis on virtuosity rather than musicality.

I'm not too familiar with mazeppa and it sounds a bit different at the start to your other version? Is that an improvised version? Or a different edition? Also you should have stood up during it like last time 😂

the cadenza that is written out is ad libitum, so theoretically you're free to compose your own one. last time I cut it altogether, now I was eager to try an alternative version

actually it's a completely different reference, an allusion on ogiński's polonaise »les adieux à la patrie«, which is widely known in eastern europe. i've both performed it (kzread.info/dash/bejne/fGiKuK6OkarIpMo.html) and used the main riff in a version of yoko ono's overtone piece (kzread.info/dash/bejne/gmqWpseulbjdido.html)

Ormai siamo arrivati al circo di quarto livello. Se si è costretti a pagliacciate del genere per distinguersi, allora è preferibile fare altro. E comunque al di là dei gesti da clown di quarto livello, bisognerebbe considerare il fatto che il repertorio piansitico è immenso, quindi invece di stuprare pagine stranote come queste, magari, se proprio non si è capaci di dire cose nuove, meglio rivolgersi a quelle pagine, spesso meravigliose, che dormono sonni profondi. Detto questo sarebbe il caso di riflettere bene su che direzione sta prendendo l'attività concertistica, perché se succede questo in un concorso non oso pensare a cosa sarebbe capace di fare(per la gioia di direttori artistici prestati alla musica)in concerto un soggetto del genere.
