I'm a tad confused by Mr Coughlan, on one point he refers to individulism as being a bad thing, yet if your a pop/rock artist, idividualism is king?? So what? We should all be in a socialist/communist ytopia? Where medicracy rains supreme? I don't get this hyporacy, all plumers are the same? Fuck no, some tool makers are better than others, the natural way of things. (Mr Starmers tool making leaves something to be desired). He get anoyed because some one doesn't wear a mask? What is this but bolshovik nonsense? I love Cathals music and especially his lyrics, but please, indivulism is the spark in all of us, and should be celibrated, not condemed as some selfish whim. I'm starting to wonder if some of my admiration for some artists/musicians is wasted on those who live in cloud cukoo land. RIP Cathal Coughlan. Thanks for the video Mr Robb

You nailed it. I've always said that the band had a lead guitarist, lead bass lead drummer and a genius lead keyboard. Thanks

I discovered X-RAY SPEX on Don Letts "The Punk Rock Movie", in the 1980s. Around this time I was a huge Billy Idol fan and I discovered his old punk rock band Generation X which was why I purchased this movie on VHS back in the day and I just followed the rabbit hole. I heard X-ray Spex on this movie and it took years to find their music and there was no Internet back then. Fortunately in the 1990s punk rock started getting more notices and the bands albums that I was trying to get started getting easier to find. X-ray Spex was definitely one of the best out there. It's weird that the Sex Pistols were the band that all of the other bands (on the English side) aspired to be like, but groups like X-ray Spex, The Clash, Generation X and groups like that actually knew how to playtheir instruments (no disrespect to the Pistols intended), whereas the Sex Pistols were definitely the loudest.

Inherited trauma is an acknowledged condition, these days. I find I want to know more about Ian’s parents. Both were Irish. My Father was Irish , but perhaps a little younger. His family was troubled (but mostly silent) about the War of Independence. It was close to these peoples experiences and worth exploring in terms of the lyrics.
