Planted Aquarium Expert. With a knack to make you laugh! When I first started I needed someone to physically show me what to do. Unfortunately the majority of KZreadrs don't pull the plant out and give you a visual walkthrough. I decided all my tutorials would be hands on to help others in those fragile times.
I've been there. You literally feel like you're constantly making mistakes and it isn't until after the fact we find out.

Man, I wish I saw this when I started a year ago. I began with a 10gal when I rescued some guppies and went to Petco and bought Java fern because it was presented as the easy plant. Lo and behold they all died off after a couple of weeks. Rinse and repeat, I went back to Petco and purchased them again. Same thing happened. Since then, I haven’t purchased more because I’ve been too scared to kill more. I actually have some babies propagated from the original Petco Java fern but I never knew or paid enough attention to the original rhizomes. Thanks for spreading this info on KZread because even after a year owning fish in a serious manner, I had not known this. Time to head back to the store to see if there’s thread that I’ve missed all along!

  • @yourtap

If you're going to be using Rhizome plants like ferns and Anubis, pebbles are fine. If you're trying to use it in conjunction with dirt; eventually the pebbles will make their way below the dirt.

I always LOVE seeing your videos. No you're not annoying you're awesome as always dude. But when it comes to Christmas moss how you glued that one moss couldn't you do that with C mos as well ? Or would that end up being a messy disaster? 😄... And as far as people leaving I wouldn't worry about it because I've been a sub since I can remember and I haven't left and won't. People are always out to get what they want👀❗❗ Here I am commenting on a video 2yrs old because I wanted to reeducate myself 😄 But here I am talking a lot so im gonna shut up now😄 ps remember the right people will always stay ❣❣❣

thank you so much for these 3 videos!! Have you tried to use gravel instead of this sand? I'm thinking, because gravel particles are bigger than sand particles, gravel is less likely to settle and go below the flourite and therefore the 3 layers are more likely to maintain their integrity in the long term. thanks again.

Fluval Gro+ is just micro nutrients. No macros which is nitrates, phosphates and potassium. Also, ADA Amazonia isn't leaching micros and macros into the water column. It will release ammonia due to its organics for a handful of weeks, but thats it. The power in an aquasoil is its CEC. Its ability to absorb nutrients from the water column, not release it. And inert substrates do not provide any nutrients at all. That is what they are labeled as inert. Fluorite is calcified clay, so it doesn't breakdown nor does it exchange with the water column. The CEC for Fluorite is around 4. Gravel is 1.7, EcoComplete, which is just lava rock is 14-16, and aquasoils are around 45-50 depending on the brand. So with inert substrates you still need to use root tabs otherwise they will "get nothing". Iron also doesn't make plants red. High PAR does. Also a nitrate deficit of 5ppm or less can help push reds as well. Also, dosing Thrive doesn't spike nitrites. Thrive+ might as it has urea in it. But regular thrive won't. If you have a low tech tank, you just dose enough to boost your nitrates up an additional 10ppm from where they normally sit, and your good to go. Depending in you lights and the amount of plants you have, this dose can be different for everyone. But regular Thrive won't kill your fish if you dose it correctly. Thrive and Easy Green are essentially the same at this point. Over time EasyGreen has just copied Thrives recipe, there isn't a huge difference in micros and macros. And yes, Flourish is water down trash. HAHAHA. Its meant to be used with ALLL their other bottles. If you google Seachem Dosing Schedule, you can find what they want you to dose and its just an antiquated way of dosing ferts now that good all in ones like Thrive are around. And fish don't provide potassium which is what you planted tank needs the most off. If you use cheap dried fish food, that will provide a little phosphates. The fish will produce some nitrates, depending on how much you have, but nothing is providing potassium. So we don't get everything needed from fish or their waste. Would love to do a live stream with you to cover nutrients for planted tanks :)

First week with my shrimp, did a water change, I thought that’s what I have to do, I’m taking care of shrimp, well… after some hour went to see them and one of them fall dead in front of me, next day another one. I started searching around internet and I found out, you can’t do water changes like with fish, learned my lesson. I feel your pain, and I know this was my fist mistake, but it won’t be the last.

I tied the bundle to drift wood and that plant has never looked good. Still holding in there but looks bad while the rest of the tank is flourishing. Great tip man!

If you don't have direct pressure on the roots and they are free to attach themselves; larger stones would be preferable unless you don't mind them connecting to piles of stones permanently. It's more of a cosmetic decision on your part. Hope that helps 🤙
