Thank you for sharing this all those years ago! I was shuffling through KZread trying to find a good recording of this piece, and this was the first one where the voice seems to fit perfectly. Most singers seem to perform this with such exaggerated vibrato that I can hear no emotion behind their voices. Novák nailed it on the head, I'd say!

i have an old lp of the 1953 Brno radio recording. subtle differences in expression, but the crystal-clear diction is identical and magnificent. in general the cast on that recording is all exemplary and Břetislav Bakala, the conductor, is just that little bit more exciting than the young Neumann here, though this still sounds wonderful. thanks!

This is a wonderful opera and performance. It's not new to me but, the one thing I could never understand is, why this opera is so underrated. One thing I have to say is, the soloist are outstanding. Thank you so much for uploading this marvelous opera. I enjoyed it immensely.

Произведение отнюдь не плохое, но не самое популярное. Мне в нём не хватает яркости, которая с лихвою присутствует у Глинки (однако Глинка вряд ли смог бы написать социально-критическое произведение психологического толку - он мыслил в первую очередь как симфонический и инструментальный композитор, несмотря на длительное пребывание в Италии и хорошо усвоенные уроки Россини, Беллини и Доницетти).

Eine glanzvolle Stimme, die größere Aufmerksamkeit verdient hätte. Klare Diktion und Inspiration sind tonangebend. Die Interpretationen von Herbert Schachtschneider halten jeden Vergleich mit Kultstars aus. Sein Lohengrin ist sicher einer der besten.
