as a med student, my professor said you must keep calm in ICU. He saw too many patients passed when he was young, at the begining he was like others, cry, sad. He even thought about resigning.

These sounds come with reminders of pain and victory. I treated patients in ICU as an Occupational Therapist & witnessed miracles that I played a very small part in (imo it was God handling the miracle part ;)), but when my Mom was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, the sounds I heard at MD Anderson reminded me of hope followed by loss, grief and sadness. With a lot of work on myself and healing the pain, listening to this is comforting in a way & brings back the unbelievable courage, strength and Faith so many of patients had. Going from bedridden on a ventilator to breathing on their own and walking out of the hospital! 💓

I'm an OT student! I thought I'd learn a bit about the different machines and alarm sounds before my fieldwork at an LTAC facility so that's how I ended up here. I'm so sorry to hear about your mom, cancer is the worst. But it's so awesome how many patients you were able to help and make a difference in their lives!

You are a hero. It takes courage to work in the ICU (scariest part of the hospital). I was in a medically induced coma with severe pneumonia that turned into ARDS. I got off the ventilator after nearly 2 weeks and I'll never forget one of the doctors coming in and saying he wanted a pic with me because he and his staff didn't think I'd make it. The sedation and delirium still give me flashbacks. The Lord spared my life

This is not what an ICU sounds like. This is what a cath lab might sound like if no one knows how to silence alarms. This is just annoying.

Oh boy, yes.. I know the hospital well and I remember much.. Idk if I were in the ICU, but as I am disabled and have about 4 different chronic illnesses, I'm sure I was as a kid.. I remember the hospital sounds very well.. I'm often in a hospital but it really feels safe yk.. I'm happy to have them because I would've been dead long ago if they weren't there.. I remember when I had a bad pneumonia as a 4 year old back then that almost killed me, because of my bad asthma too, so that's what I remember too... I see the hospital still very often but I'm lucky to get help, well there's no treatment for my condition, but I get a bit pain relieve still and the help to live a better, painless life❤️😊

Holy Cow!! So this is what I would’ve heard when I was in an 11 day coma!! 😲😲😲😲! I have no memory of it what’s at all! In April 2008, I was rushed into Brighton Sussex County, after suffering a major brain hemmorhage, they then made the decision to transfer me to the major trauma centre at Kings College in Brixton London, where I underwent, a 2 and a half hour op, was put on a breathing tube, ventilator. But my goodness am I glad to alive today! All thanks to a fantastic neurologist surgeon, Sanjeev Bassi. (Believe it or not, we actually have a little mini Shetland Pony named exactly after him!)

My dad and grandma were both in the ICU before they died. Dad had pneumonia. Grandmother had cancer. They died three years apart. It's hard for me to even be in a hospital sometimes. I took psychology this spring, and I realized as a premed that the fear of hospitals had to go. I talked to my teacher and he told me to do something called exposure therapy. So here I am...facing my past. It is incredibly difficult, but reading all of these comments is somehow helping.

I remember being put on the kids ward and I could hear the beeping from another room and something about it was so soothing?? Even so it was weird at the same time cause I wasn't allowed to be left alone in a room, I wasn't allowed phone chargers or headphones. They wouldn't even let me shit or shower alone :')

I love the sound of the ventilator!!! Reminds me of the time I awoke from my coma. I was recovering from cancer surgery when my colon burst and I got sepsis, I almost died 3times. When I came to, I was on a ventilator and trachtube. The ventilator made rythmic sounds that were sedating, I would fall asleep. But the drs were popping in every time I wanted to nap!!! I was a hoot, surviving my first bout of cancer, sepsis and organ shutdown! I'm now fighting my 2nd round with cancer. I just love those ventilators!!!!!!

They saved his life bloody amazing the hospitals he was in an the staff an the machines. Amazing. He said he remembers these sounds an the ECMO. My dad was in ICU in the last August. He was even in ICU Airborne room. Everytime I paid visit for him, I was sad and could not hold my tears. He touched my face as if he missed me so much. He touched my nose, my chin, and my cheek. I was crying then. I prayed to Allah to cure my dad. He is health, indeed. But he was in heaven now. Cannot wait to meeting him again.
