well, who would have thought singing goblins, talking babies flying a space ship, a monster made of shite, a drag artist acting like someone in a psychiatric hospital, gay clubs, the doctor trying to shag blokes and a giant donkey would have killed Dr Who.

Funny that Joanne says that 30 mns could have been cut from Frozen Empire, when the film is only 1h 46mn long. It certainly felt much longer due to some boring moments, bad pacing, and the dragged out Melody plot. Nice review from all of you. I mostly agree. Still glad I went to see it, and looking forward to new films.

As a long time fan it pains me to say this but I have to be honest; Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is a huge disappointment. The film is a mess. It's boring, poorly paced, confusing, convoluted and overly complicated. Too many characters, many of which have been needlessly shoehorned into the story. It's overstuffed with unnecessary dialogue, subplots, characters and scenes which go on for far too long. It's not funny either. I didn't laugh once during the movie, and neither did the audience I was watching it with. Neither is it scary. Laughs and scares are the two things you expect from a Ghostbusters film but this film doesn't provide any. Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan may be talented directors, but they're the wrong people to be writing these films. With a heavy heart, I rate this film 3 out of 10. I feel a lot of fans are in denial about just how bad this film is.

While I'd rate it a little higher, I agree with you on most of your points. Some of the characters here were very annoying, and as you said, a lot of the film was boring, especially the overly drawn out Melody subplot. Another thing that bothered me, was some of the OTT acting, which while is the norm for some characters in the past such as Louis Tully and Janosz, everyone else was pretty much normal and real world, whereas in Frozen Empire there were multiple people hamming it up. Plus, the eye rolling call backs were dumb, with the male librarian appearing... 40 years later to yell at Ray, Peck again, librarian ghost again, mini pufts again. Podcast might have been the worst character in the film, and I hope he's not back for the next film. 6/10 for me, because I think it can be slightly remedied in a director's cut and with some better editing and deleted moments/shots added back in. Gil and Jason need to stop hiring their besties, and stop doing cutesy stuff, because it's not right for Ghostbusters. They have the wonderful original film to model things after, so why no do it, at least style wise for the next film. Practical FX, less CGI, and less ghosts who are all blue in color for some reason. What was that about? Odd choice. Also, the proton streams are looking generic compared to the first two films. I love the lore and OG characters so much, that I still don't want things to end, which is why this film hasn't killed the fun for me. I still want another film or two, a mini series possibly, couple of animated films, and maybe a new animated cartoon that bridges the gap from GB2 to Afterlife. With that said, SONY needs to stop pissing about, stop the memberberries, stop making this like an Avengers film, and listen to not just the fans, but also to some of the critics.

A prequel to Heat feels like dangerous territory for me. You can't recast (Driver is 6'2" and looks nothing like Deniro...), and you can't do de-aging convincingly yet for an entire film, let alone voice de-aging. I think the smarter idea would be to make a sequel with a new cast of robbers who are inspired by McCauley and his team. You could still have some of the original film's cast back as well, such as Pacino, Voight, Brenneman, Judd, Venora, Natalie Portman, Tom Noonan, Azaria and probably even Kilmer, considering he was in Maverick. Get a brand new younger cast as the new group, maybe shoot it on film again, keep the R rating tone, and you've got another awesome film. Thought Exorcist Believer was pretty bad. Decent first 45 minutes, not great, and a bad final half hour. 6/10. At least we have Exorcist III. On the topic of Hocus Pocus, I enjoyed the original, found the sequel lame but enjoyed the original trio coming back, so I have some interest in the third film. They need to do a less rehashed plot this time though.

I love the Empire podcast. It's one of the few podcasts I pay for the extra hilarity and intelligence. God those people are quick. These people crack the kind of joke, and move on, that I'd make a big deal of because I'm not as good as them. Oh and Helen OHara is the geek queen, of course. Don't worry, I won't stalk any of them. I'm usually very measured but I've just found this video and I'm full of legally obtained opiates.

Whip-smart, articulate and down-to-earth, she's one of my favourite film critics. She knows her shit, and on the Empire podcast provides a great a balance to the zany humour of Chris Hewitt and the geek banter of James Dyer. A great, fun team
