Masterpiece really is the best word to describe it. The songwriting, the production and the performance are all flawless, also a defining album of my adolescence. I’ll never forget listening to this album with headphones, while rolling my face off, and just being in absolute awe that something could sound so painful, yet so beautiful. Moreira’s vocals are so raw and honest, yet every inflection perfectly calculated. The way he weaves in the singing with the harsh vocals is fucking HAUNTING, nobody does it quite like him. ❤ The album transports you into a foggy dreamspace of frustration, regret, and agony. Few vocal performances truly express genuine pain and sorrow, and feel as real as Moreira’s on You Come Before You. This is one of those albums I can come back to 20 years later, and it still hits just as hard - if not harder. It’s also played a big role in my own songwriting, especially when it comes to going for that “haunted” minor vibe. Shit is a straight gut punch to the feels, and easily in Top 3 best hardcore albums ever. Criminally underrated.
