    Hello. I just completed my latest event with my hero10. What I noticed last month, and today when viewing the video...that the camera had made 6 videos of about 11 minutes each for my one hour event. Terje told me what programs he uses for putting the track into the video, but he has not responded to my question about not only if he also has split clips, or how to splice them. Do you have to do the same thing? Thanks.

    Do any of your event promoters set courses with the miniature controls? When we have events at smaller venues, we set brown and green routes with a few of them in places like very small rootstock or in a ditch…so talk about being right next to one…at 6 inches those things are brutal!

    I love the scenery. How you can tell one area of skinny pine trees from another is beyond me. Orienteering looks really fun. I was looking through some of eastern Norway on Google streetview, and it had roads as primitive as the backwoods areas of Canada, if not moreso. I was impressed!

    I guess you thought you were on the small indistinct path and looking for the longer one on the way to #6 to catch the white forest strip, vs hitting that track and being past it...although the map shows green , it still seemed at least 80% runnable...

  • @johnrobertson7583
    @johnrobertson7583Ай бұрын

    I wear a sports hat when running...it prevents a headmount from being positioned low enough that the cam doesnt catch low tree branches. Using a chest cam solves this, as well as not making the video twist left and right constantly as you are looking for a control...it also lets you bring your map into the frame more easily , if you also want to show a quick shot of the control clue sheet. Although Kiziev has a method to overlay the current control into the video clip...but he doesnt always do it...a further benefit of it being low is you can make sure its on and pointing the right angle...a couple of times when I ran last, and I have seen some of the pros do it too...is they will trip and the camera gets bumped downward and for 30 minutes they will only be capturing half of the frontal view...but you will get to see their feet at least!!

  • @aaronswank
    @aaronswank2 ай бұрын

    Why do you like the headcam over a chest camera? I am going to be doing my first ever orienteering race, and want to film it. But I feel like it being on my head would be too much of a bother.

  • @Kiziev
    @Kiziev2 ай бұрын

    It's better to use a head-mounted camera because it's more convenient to see where you're looking. The chest-mounted camera has several drawbacks: - First, the video looks uncomfortable when running. - Second, the stabilizer doesn't work very well because it shakes too much. - And third, it's slightly heavier than the head-mounted camera. I recommend testing both the chest-mounted and head-mounted cameras before the competition or training. :)

    You don't notice a headmount when you are running with it - you forget it's on.. With chest mount, you get your arms in shot which is distracting. Your head does a great job of stabilisation and with electronic stabilisation as well. the image is rock solid (with headcam)

  • @ErnstPoulsen
    @ErnstPoulsenАй бұрын

    I have tested both head-mounts and chest-mounts and prefer the headcam-version. Having the map in front of the camera disturbs the view and it's much better to integrate the map on the side in the video. Also - I believe Kiziev is right that the stabilization works better with a headcam. But, be aware, that every time you bring a new gadget into your running, it disturbs you mentally. The first couple of times you run with a camera there's a slightly larger risk of making mistakes, because you're focusing on the camera and not reading the map. So make a few test-runs so you know how to mount the camera, etc.

    Nice route choices off the high hills down onto more runable terrain! Its tricky watching your track because of the multiple passes at several of the controls...took a few minutes for me to understand that. We use manual punching still...so thats good since we can go back to a missed one with no penalty...

    I am really liking the earth view track overlay. I am sure it serves an additional method of evaluating your performance. I am glad my club has setup with Livelox. I believe viewing my routes compared with competition has helped me a little. Have you seen on some videos a thumb-sized 100meter diameter micro-nav map that shows closeup of nearly instant turns when person is approaching the control? Although some people keep it on the screen when the leg is very long, I have seen it come on when within 30 seconds or so of punching, and off till the next approach. It seems to help when the actual leg is more than .5k or so...
