    I have a 2019 Prime, with the same jack, pump, and can of sealant. But I can't get the jack out. It's somehow become jammed in there and I can't figure out what's causing the problem. I just went out and bought a full-size spare wheel and tire. I've had three flats in this car in the last two years, and I can't stand not having a real spare tire anymore. Just an FYI: If you use that can of sealant, or an external plug repair, America's Tire will no longer repair punctures on that tire.

  • @slo111poke6
    @slo111poke62 жыл бұрын

    To remove the jack you have to rotate the eyelet so that it's released from the stowed position. Trunk space is invaluable to me as the space back there is quite limited by the traction battery. Thank you for the tip on America's tire.

  • @laura-ann.0726
    @laura-ann.07262 жыл бұрын

    @@slo111poke6 - Thanks! After I posted this message, I went back and re-read the owner's manual, and it says in there that you have to release the jack by loosening the jack screw. I've also decided to invest the $$$ in an external carrier solution. I've arranged to have a 2" TorkLift Eco-Hitch installed on the car, and I'll buy a swing-out carrier for it, probably from RigD or Dirtcom. They're expensive as hell, but I can also use it on my Rav4 Prime, if I can ever find one to buy! The hitch receiver is due to be installed next week; the carrier will take 6 to 8 weeks lead time after I place the order. These are a universal size for most compact SUV's, and fit the Rav4, Highlander, 4-Runner, Tacoma, Sienna, and Honda's CRV and Pilot. It'll look weird to see an off-road tire carrier on the back of a Prius Prime, but like I said, I am damn sick and tired of getting flat tires and not having a spare. Shame on these car manufacturers for selling cars with no spare tire. In the meantime, while I wait to get my swingout carrier, I have the spare stowed behind the driver's seat. It just fits in the left rear passenger footwell, and I can still slide the driver's seat all the way back to the position I like. You are quite correct about the limited cargo space being an issue in the Prime. It's enough for a couple bags of groceries but that's about it, unless you lower the rear seat backs. Where you would really run into a problem with a Prius Prime is if you had a family of four and were going somewhere, like to the airport to fly away for a vacation, and had all the luggage that 4 people would typically have for a multi-day trip. Only way you could handle it is with a rooftop cargo pod, assuming you had the Toyota crossbar kit installed (which I do, and I have a Thule cargo pod. Not the smallest or largest size, a "medium" size one, I guess you could say. I've used it a half dozen times just this year).

    @@laura-ann.0726 how is the wind noise with the racks and cargo pod? I just picked up a prime and thinking about the bars

  • @laura-ann.0726
    @laura-ann.07262 жыл бұрын

    @@austinfrazier7325 - No significant noise with the OEM Toyota cross bars, even at 70 mph, and I haven't noticed any wind noise from the cargo pod either. . My cargo pod is a Thule Force XT-L, which has 450 liters volume. I bought it from REI. It is the middle of the lineup in capacity - it's neither the longest nor the shortest model. If I were buying this again, I would spend the extra $100 for the Force XT-XXL. It is 3" wider and 18" longer than the XT-L, and 622 liters volume. I needed a cargo pod ASAP for a camping trip, and my local REI didn't have an XXL in stock, so I settled for the smaller model, but every time I pack for a trip, I wish I had the bigger one. I HIGHLY recommend the cross bars and a cargo pod for anyone who owns a Prius Prime, because you lose so much cargo space to the traction battery. As for the "hit" on fuel economy: The cross bars alone don't seem to cause any measurable extra fuel consumption, but the cargo pod does drop the fuel economy from 65 mpg to about 57 mpg at 55 mph. At 70 mph, fuel economy drops to about 50 mpg with the pod. But the extra cargo capacity is a godsend, especially if you have kid(s) and need to be able to haul more than 1 passenger and the driver, and therefore can't fold down the rear seat. As you have discovered, with the rear seat backs not folded down, the Prius Prime can barely hold 2 bags of groceries in the cargo area. You are going to love this car, as long as you aren't expecting blazing acceleration and tire-burning power output. Another accessory you will want to get ASAP is a level 2 charger. If you have an electric dryer outlet in your garage with a NEMA 10-30 wall socket to power it, as I do, you can buy an L2 charger that has a NEMA 10-30 plug that fits that socket for about $199 on Amazon. NOTE: The charger built into the Prius Prime can only use 13 amps of 240 volt power (3 kilowatts), so you DON'T need to spend the extra $100 for a 30 amp L2 charger: your car won't be able to use the extra capacity, so you would be wasting your money to pay for a 30 amp charger. The L2 charger provides 3000 watts and can charge your traction battery from dead flat to full in about 2 hours and 20 minutes. The L1 charger that comes with the car only provides about 1200 watts and it takes 5-1/2 hours to charge the battery. Also, when the battery is charging, it's maximum "State of Charge" tops out at 84% (the minimum is 14%). The first 1 hour and 50 minutes of a full charge happens at 3000 watts, until the battery reaches 80% SOC. The charger then drops to 800 watts for 15 minutes, then 400 watts for the final 15 minutes. So, if you are in a hurry, the last 30 minutes of a full charge cycle is actually just a slow "topping off"; you only get maybe 3 miles more of range out of it. You can get a lot more information about what your car's hybrid systems and traction battery are doing by installing a BlueTooth OBD-II adapter and these 3 apps on your Android phone: "Car Scanner", "Tire Assistant", and "Hybrid Assistant". Look them up on the Play Store. Tire Assistant and Hybrid Assistant are free, Car Scanner is trial ware, free for 30 days then $4.95 to unlock all of the sensors. Hybrid Assistant was written specifically for Toyota Hybrids, the other 2 are "generic" but still useful. Tire Assistant tells you the pressure in each of your tires to ±1 psi.

    Thank you. I wish I had seen this video a couple of hours ago. I didn’t know I had a Jack so I ended up using the sealer that comes with the car. I even had the plug kit with me. One thing worth mentioning that you can’t use the pump that came with the car without the sealer unless you make an adapter. Toyota wants to make money so they require you to use the $100+ sealer in order to pump the tire.

    You can get a bottle of Slime tire sealant at WalMart or any auto parts store, or Amazon, for about $11. Does the same thing as the Toyota sealant for a lot less money. But once you have used any of these sealants, you can't repair future punctures properly with an internal patch. America's Tire will not repair a punctured tire that's full of sealant goop. The risk you take using Slime is that it only works well on SMALL nail punctures. Drywall screws, #10 or larger sheet metal and wood screws, or nails bigger than 12p, make punctures that are usually too big for Slime to seal, and then you are stuck with the full cost of replacing a wounded tire that can't be repaired with an internal patch because it's full of liquid sealant. Personally, I wouldn't use Slime - the fact that America's Tire will not do puncture repairs once a tire has been Slimed makes it a deal-breaker for me.

  • @ThatOneZeus

    In all honesty you should just probably get a fix a flat kit with an air compressor for a car that has no spare, the liquid sealant creates a mess and has a tendency to fuck with the TPM Sensors
