Good results with paint & natural warm wood color. Personally, I keep my wood and contrasting color value in the same categories of: warm to warm, cold to cold, etc. In this case, perhaps a warm contrasting color (with the wood color) could have been a light-to-mid (warm) sandy color that would have made this vintage piece easier to integrate into a residential decor. Overall, excellent work & great improvement. Warm regards!

Great tips!! Thank you so much! I was wondering, for local meet-ups, have you had people not show up or just ghost you when the day comes? And do you have tips for reducing that?

You did not wax the center drawer decoration? It sticks out. Would look better with matching color top. You could do a woodgrain look on it. There is too much visually going on here, but you do very nice work.
@deawallace3584Күн бұрын
Might as well paint the top as use a gel that dark that hides the woodgrain. Gel stains are good to hide lots of imperfections, but are hard to apply well in my experience.

It is shocking the shellac did not seal it! I was about to do this on a dresser, but now I will first coat with BIN. I guess since BIN shellac- based, then tannins could bleed from it also? At least when I researched how shellac was made, I quit minding it's high cost. I spray the interiors and drawers of all my wood furniture with shellac. The freahness is heavenly...no musty moldy, grandma's house smells ever.

This has to be the most beautiful makeover I’ve ever seen!! I’m so inspired; this is the kind of refurbishing I’d love to do 🥰 How long do you think the paint will last before expecting chipping?

I have a similar vanity that was given to me free by a woman whose daughter also gave me two night stands free of charge. Shortly after the vanity was given to me, the donor contacted me and decided she was willing to buy it from me after I restored it. It is in terrible shape and I feel this will be my hardest challenge to date

I know this is an older video! It’s so informative. I have a question. I’m painting a few pieces a light pink. Will polyurethane discolor the finish? Am I better off using a polycrylic? Thanks for any tips! Love your videos.

Hi! I’m so glad 😀 Regular Polyurethane is an oil based product so it will turn a warm yellow. You want to make sure your polyurethane says water-based. Varathane makes a great water based polyurethane with a crystal clear finish. That’s the one you want!

Tip from woodworkers here: You can use up to 600 grit after applying the sealing coats. You don’t want to sand the wood past 220 for staining or applying laquer/polyurethane. The wood grain should be sanded to 180. Once applying your finishing medium then you use the higher grit to polish it out. Hope this helps you!
