Saying runecraft and MTA require the same level of attention as Inferno (or at least that what the graph implies) is SLANDER! even if you don't use the more afk methods of training rc like blood rc (zeah) and ZMI altar, between banking and getting to the altars (i.e running) definitely has you being able to "afk" as you can easily run for 10-15 seconds (sometimes even more depending on pathing) until you have to click on a new tile to run to. arguably less clicking than agility with its rooftop course obstacles only spaced not more than 10 tiles apart (click every 2-3 seconds) (since this video was uploaded before the MTA QoL update and gotr I won't mention them, I still believe my argument is valid with rc not being as intensive as Marstead claims. I won't argue with the fact that it's slow or anything, but it can certainly be chill, even before blood rc). otherwise a great essay much love and agree with everything else <3

I love how this video managed to put into words what i could not about runescape, but also allowed me to finally identify why i love "Mabinogi" so much, its how much like rinescape, it feels just so different to everything else out there

Oh, seeing Devious Minds reminds me that a jmod answered that it was the quest with the shortest dev time in RS2 up to that point. That at least partially explains it standing out from the others as weird.

i agree the quests can be really hard blind solo, but even with one other person (also blind) to bounce ideas off of they actually become really doable from my experience!

@Marstead Man I just wanna say THANK YOU. Thank you for making me discover La-Mulana. I've just finished the game (with the help of some guides here and there, especially towards the end but I played 90-95% by myself I'd say) and it was such an experience. Definitely in my top 5 games list. I'm starting La-Mulana 2 soon, and now that I know how the game works I'll start with the right mindset and start taking notes immediately.

RuneScape is just a copy of dark ages. The precursor to RuneScape. RuneScape is not unique. For instance. WAKFU and Dofus exist. And they RuneScape way better than RuneScape

People who call themselves, "PVE players" are such boring little babies. PVP adds so much to the game, so much more risk, emergent gameplay, it creates completely different rules around static world resources. They don't realize it but the, "I was in line first" rule lawyering sucks. PVP is great. Don't be a pussy.

Was enjoying the video up until the 'nothing matters' / 'suspension of nihilism' talkpoints, which are in every sense, inherently pointless belief systems. Meaningfulness is subjective and 'things that matter' can be found in every atom. Nihilism is not some fundamental truth of reality that needs suspending in order to enjoy something-- which is why nihilism is inherently pointless, self-defeating (and considerably dangerous), and even though the 'suspension of nihilism' can be seen as a positive thing, its phrasing is indicitive of nihilism being an objective truth, which is just blatantly wrong. If people need to 'suspend nihilism' in order to enjoy something, I'd strongly recommend therapy.

Wow is also a theme park MMO, you can choose to PvP, or PvE, and they don't really benefit the other as they both reward gear that would be competing with each other, the pvp gear is best for pvp, the pve gear is best for pve. so basically you can skip one side of the game, only go to one ride. Dark age of camelot gives gear from PvE, and abilities from pvp synergizing those (a much better aproach im) upside to that is you are rewarded for playing the entire game, downside to that i suppose is now if you only enjoy one aspect you'll be less powerfull.

I think you'd have loved original Ultima Online, That doesn't exist anymore, and wont ever again(just enabling easier voice comms outside the game means bigger groups are more viable which kind of ruins the game) though, such a shame as that was by miles the best game ever made.

Fun fact about the campsite event at 46:42, it exists in osrs, but has been inaccessible since ~2015 when there was a bug fix to make the NPCs there not consume the entire stack if fed purple sweets

One major thing you missed in your classification of the game genre is that at it's core, RuneScape is a rhythm game. The deeper you delve into end game content, the more you'll understand what I mean. Sure, a large majority of the game can be played afk but there's also a ton of content requiring you to get into rhythm, prayer flicking for example at inferno, colloseum etc. the step back mechanics at verzik, sol etc. I could go on and on but I think you get my point.

Runescape is a completionist game, which is the main reason why I play it. There are no classes. There is nowhere in the game where you must choose a path, which cuts you off from doing stuff on other paths. You can do everything with one character. You can complete the game. There is even a completionist cape for you to wear when you have done everything. I am not even close to that after 20 years of playing, so there is enough to do. If there is one thing I hate in an mmorpg it is having to start a new character if I want to try out something different. Leveling everything up again. Doing all quests over again. No thanks.
