Sailing Ragdoll

Sailing Ragdoll

Ahoy sailors!

We are a family of three - Chris, Daria & Jasper. We have been sailing the coasts of Scotland, exploring one island at a time, for a while now.. but.. it's time for a change of scenery! Our floating circus also includes two golden retrievers and a bernese mountain dog - Hachi, Luna and Meems. Because why make life easier? Those happy bundles of hair make life just a little more fun, and at times, somewhat challenging, but we wouldn’t change it for the world.

We sail on a 1995 Gib’Sea 472 who have refitted and made our own over the last couple of years. In April 2023, we are leaving Scotland. We are leaving the UK. We're heading towards warmer climates of the Mediterranean. There is no set route or plan. We will go where the wind and life take us.

If you see us floating around, don't be afraid to say hello. We don't bite.. at least yet. Your subscriptions, comments and likes are greatly appreciated.

See you around!
Daria & Chris, Jasper & the borking woofballs!

    Thanks for watching as always! Doggies had a blast on the beach and were so happy to be on a beach and in the sea again! Starlink has been great. We’ve had it now for over a year and it does not disappoint. The initial set up was under £500 as we have the RV version and other than that, it’s around £80-£90 a month otherwise. We have to enable mobile use if going offshore which charges extra but it’s not extortionate and for the most part, if you’re within a few miles of the coast you always have great signal and phenomenal speeds.

    On the ground, land, sand? 😂 they don’t toilet on the boat unless we’re doing a crossing, then it’s an artificial grass patch.

    Haha, thanks - I’ll take that as a compliment! We always trained them to not react to other animals, cats included. They’d sit and watch them go by. In time, we visited friends with cats to ensure they’re used to it and well… they did!

    We have newfoundlands and love sailing our little sailing dinghy. Your videos have definitely become my go to for a channel with dogs on a boat! A girl can dream! (Newfies are water dogs and were actually bred for boat life. They are low energy much of the time, but powerful swimmers and love to do water work. Many people don't realize they are bred as water/boat dogs and think it would be cruel to have them on a boat)

Although its British, its different enough to make you feel like you're in a different country lol Great to see that Jasper has made lots of friends and that you're now buddying with boat kids. I love the tattoos, what a great idea haha! The Pooches look so comfortable whilst you're sailing, which is so good. Looking forward to following your journey throughout the Med this year 🥰

    We love seeing this! Wondering what the transition period for the dogs was like. For instance, Did one take to sailing more than the other? Do you ever worry about hair clogging the bilge?

  • @SailingRagdoll
    @SailingRagdoll3 ай бұрын

    Hi Kari, thanks for watching! All of our dogs sailed from their puppyhood so their only transition period was when we moved onto the boat full time rather than be weekend sailors. In the first couple of weeks they were a little more reactive to things around them but as weeks passed, this settled down. Now they just watch the world go by both at anchor and in marinas! We don’t worry about the bilge blocking up as we check this regularly and hoover, A LOT😂

    Fab update guys 😊 can we ask a couple of questions pretty please 🙏 Where did you get the acrylic from for your hatches? Which sealant did you use? Thanks in advance 😊

  • @SailingRagdoll
    @SailingRagdoll6 ай бұрын

    Ahoy! The acrylic for the Lewmar size 10’s - I bought 300x300 smoked grey acrylic 8mm thick off of eBay. I bought 6 blanks and cut them down to the right size with a circular saw and a belt sander, and then just sanded up the edges through the grits to a polish. The sealant is CT1 Black. It’s labour intensive, but for not a lot of outlay can get your hatches looking like new - can add a lot of visual value to an ageing boat!

  • @SailingRagdoll
    @SailingRagdoll6 ай бұрын

    A thought - it wouldn’t hurt to go up to 10mm thickness on the size 10’s - the hardware (hinges and latches) can all do it as they are made for both thicknesses anyway.

    Beautiful dogs ! The sea cock should be directly on the through hole with no additional parts ! The elbow is a bad choice , also bronze though holes are better and stronger! But it’s done and it should be ok if you don’t use it for any storage space !

  • @jayelwin
    @jayelwin6 ай бұрын

    When I saw the elbow before the valve I thought that goes against the recommendation of trudesign the company. “Bronze is better” is old thinking. Look at what everyone is pulling out of their boats - bronze. With the collar composite is just as strong.
