As a lad who grew up in Newport I am very familier with this amazing engineering structure. However the motors that wind the cables that move the carriage are pretty low power, in the 21st Century, isn't it time to run this using solar power (PV panels and a battery)? There are lots of places PV panels could be fitted and that would update it for the next 100 years (well 25 years on the current PV panels!).
@CaptTony2 ай бұрын
I agree. The motors are only 35hp, so I assume could be powered by suitably large solar panels. Good idea.

Visited this place any times a a kid living in Kings Lynn, My mother would walk in and pay while my Dad and me my brother and sister would climb the Moat banks. Did not realise you needed to pay and go through the official entry until I was on a school trip aged 11 and took my pals down the "Back Way" as we knew it. We loved it but got a proper talking to from the teacher when we climbed over the embankment. Thanks again for wakening memories.

That is a fantastic structure, I had the pleasure of working on the bridge firework display for the Millenium. The blokes on the bridge were a great bunch, Spent a week with them loading a lots of explosives onto gantry sides and a lot on top of the Towers Was pretty wet most of the week and working on top of the Towers about 10.00 on new years Eve was a blast, the display went off fine. Because we were on the bridge when that night we could see all of the displays across a lot of South Wales, in the Stadium and across the channel. The Bridge cafe fry up was brilliant, had a few of those. New years eve they let me take the Gondola over to the Cafe side. the Machine has stood up to time. Good to see it being looked after. Thanks for the upload and reminding me about it.
