Do the pc fan CR box filters really push the same CFM at a fraction of the energy consumption of a box fan CR filter? Some clean air kits claim 7-10 watts!! That would make it over 10x more efficient than the air king box fan on its lowest setting!! 😮 Definitely something I want to consider, since it’s much quieter at almost the same claimed given CFM, if that were true.
Wow! You are great! Thank you
Right now I am incredibly frustrated. Have the model B with a 14 inch diameter hole. Ordered the the AC Infinity Cloudlift AS14 and surprise the fan is 16 inches in diameter and doesn't even come close to fitting the14 inch diameter hole.
Sorry about this issue! The default Cloudlift design is for a 12" S12 fan. The number in the name of the fan indicates the size of the fan blades, not the hole for the fan. I do have an option for the 14" Cloudlift S14 but, as you noticed, the hole has to be larger. Please contact me through Etsy so we can figure out what happened with your order.
@@The3DHandyman Ordered the model B that fit the 16 by 30 inch filter. The top has a 14 inch hole. So far so good. So using my apparently flawed logic I ordered an Infinity model S14 which to me would logically be 14 inches in diameter and fit the 14 inch hole. The model S14 is actually 16 inches in diameter to my surprise. Would not think there is any thing you could do except perhaps state don't order the S14 model.
@@The3DHandyman So guessing the S12 has an actual diameter of 14 Inches not 12.
@@ArnieD17 That's right, the diameter of the S12 is 14in. The S14 at 16in wide is to large for kits that have filters smaller than 20in wide. The S14 is an option for the kit. In the Etsy description it has all those details but I think you have to click 2 buttons to actually view the description. Etsy seems to hide it for some reason. I want to get a website set up where I can make this sort of thing more clear but haven't made it that far yet. Hopefully you can return the S14 for an S12. They seem to be back in stock this week. They have been a bit scarce since I launched this video.
Yo, dis filter design is bomb!
Do your kits come with filters and fans?
The fans and filters are sold separately. More details are in the product descriptions on etsy. Thanks for asking. Forgot to mention that in the video.
Can you make a wall mount option for 20x20x1 filters?
These are really well produced videos. You have given me some ideas for dust control during a home remodel. I look forward to future postings. By the way, this is the only channel for which I have turned on the alert bell.
So glad I found your videos! I’m wondering if you’ve ever thought about adapting your system to a mini split filtration system. I think Jay Bates has done a few videos on this topic. Also could be worth exploring using a quad filter with a mini split to see if it filters the air enough to still use the factory filter in the mini split. Mini splits are becoming popular in workshops and garages, so I think a product aimed at mini splits could be popular.
That would be awesome
I vote for this build too!
Great job on the video a few years ago I had to paint a small 25 x 25 9 foot ceiling classroom with red paint and I did my best to mask off but I decided to take a 20 inch box fan and I had a 20 x 20 filter and I taped it on the back and was quite amazed at how much Particulate that picked up just by itself I loved your design work
Dude does better testing than some scientific studies
I have the same brain as he does, go deep or don't go at all.
I appreciate your dedication to this project.
Seems like there should be a bigger version of that AC infinity cloudline fan, or a quiet drum fan.
Changed my perspective on how to mitigate damages living next to a busy highway. Thank you for your efforts.
Impressive video. I’ve been ocd on dust collection / DIY air cleaners the last 5 yrs. You clarified a lot for me. Thanks
This is an impressive amount of designing and testing, thank you. Although I am getting a bit confused as to which would be applicable for a residential / bedroom situation, given that you discuss industrial situations throughout the video. Could anyone that has a bit of a better overview indicate to me which kit would be best for smaller residential rooms? Thanks in advance!
@10:55 ...genius. It was a long, fun watch and I took away some great ideas. Thanks for sharing!!
If the top and bottom were 3 pieces maybe 1.5” then ?12?” then 1.5” the 2 “side filters” could be removed and the whole thing stored on the wall at maybe 5-6” thick. Also do you sell multiple fans tops that fit your 20x30 The CAT would work well in the garage but with kitchen filters and fan it would work quieter for sour dough bread flour.
You truly are a man of the people. Kudos to you for sharing the science of air filtration from knowing the filtration rate, the static pressure, and understanding CADR, and not only explaining and demonstrating has got me wanting to know more. I notice I'm not the first 300 comments on this video but I figured I would comment anyway as I believe you doing a giveaway is so wholesome. I look forward to buying one when I can save up the money. My son is allergic to almost everything and suffers daily from ezcema and allergies. I feel this is the most affordable answer especially the one with the charcoal to filter out the house. Thanks Sir for sharing.
I've been thinking about a better solution for air filtration in my garage when using my laser cutter. Thank you for the research you put into all these different fans and filters. I look forward to future episodes.
I almost clicked off of this cause I thought it was just another AI video. Your voice must be what they trained the models on hahaha
Lot of engineers are monotone like AI.
I have seen people making one of these “ quad filters” with five filters, adding one at the bottom. I would imagine when used, this is popped up with a few sticks. I wonder if you could try something like that and run the numbers.
Can’t believe nobody has mentioned that sweet Radio Shack calculator around 12:43
wow these ac infinities are actually pretty amazing, i was debating picking one up for a diy paint booth
Having another panel for the bottom is much better for air flow but also much harder for us because square filters are not popular and cost more and they also usually come in even number packs rather than odd number so you will have left overs.
Now we need someone to test this with PC fans 👍
Did you use AI voice cloning for the voice over or is that really you?
Why would this even be the case? Who in the right mind would be suspicious of that? Doesn't even sound artificial to begin with. People really be out here squinting at shit trying to make themselves see any of these bullshit tech investment scam "AI" products actually being used in the real world lmao
I've been taping a 20x20 filter to my box fan for years, but after watching the videos I'm going to upgrade to a quad filter configuration. The 12" AC Infinity and 4 16x25 filters seems to be what I'm looking for. Can't wait to put one together.
Amazing!!
Hi! Where can I get someone to make a Merv 14 DIY?
It's great to see the scientific research and data on this. I always wanted to see this but could never find anything of much significance and didn't have the means to do much significance myself. Finally the void is being filled and it's of major significance and benefit to the world.
I'm making a sculpture and this is helpful to me in multiple ways... without this video I'd still be lost! Thankyou :)
I'm so thankful that I found your channel! Can you recommend the best option for my man cave? I frequently have friends over for darts and sometimes there's smoke and I don't want the odors drifting upstairs. I'm sure that smoke/odors are hard to control or eliminate but it seems like your designs would work a lot better than most of the brands of "purifiers" on the market.
I built the model b with the air king blowing up, as seen at the end of one of your older videos. You no longer recommend that method, as it makes the air turbulent and I have to turn the fan the other way around now, to decrease dust & if I don’t want to do the duct method?
I think I have asked this before, but have you been able to do any testing to verify NordicPure's MERV rating? I've heard their "MERV-14" filters are more comparable to a MERV-8. Also, when it comes to ambient room dust, how much has blow vs suck mattered? I could see blowing through the filters being better at pulling in clouds of dust. But I generally prefer to pull air through the filter so that it is clean air crossing the fans.
If I where you I would buy a junction box for under the seat to protect the flammable carpet from getting lit from terminal spark also I would build a cover for the inverter so the outlets are only visible and then I would buy an external switch to hardwire it to prolly left side of stearing wheel so u could controll it from the front
Wonderful video, hugely informative. Thanks!
Thanks so much for all this information. I've been wanting to build one for a long time now and greatly appreciate your research and experience. If you are still giving any away, please feel free to contact me as I'm definitely interested.
So awesome - great data. Would love to see some of your thoughts based on testing quieter computer fan builds for use on night stand or in office
I have a question about the AC Infinity CLOUDLINE 8” . On amazon, their decibel rating is 38 (which I assume is the lowest/quietest it goes) but your chart in the video says 83/65/43 db. Did you independently check the noise levels? And do you know the cfm air output level for the low and medium fan settings?
This is really thorough!! Exactly the type of information and testing that puts this video in a class of its own with regards to technical details. Awesome.
Two matters: Can someone please explain why he did not attach the neutral back to the negative terminal. And, why does he use a breaker as high as 100 amps? If P = IV, I get 100 A x 120 V = 12,000 watts. That seems very high. Wouldn't a 10 A breaker be enough?
Nice video. But its better to suck air trough the filters and then to the fan instead of pushing it from the fan into the filters. Because the vacuum may suck also the filters into the frame and seal them. if you push the air trough the filter the filters may get pushed outwards and the air may get around the filters instead of going through them. Plus your fan stays clean since it pushes already cleaned air.
As someone who struggles with air filtration in his own workshop, this series of videos have been extremely helpful. Thanks!
I wonder if the replacement lens went yellow by now.
I guess the idea is to have input and output on opposite sides of the work space. Thanks for your excellent work. (I don't understand the Y fitting function. Looks like it's blowing both ways on a unidirectional circuit.)
I've been doing a lot of research on box fans vs HEPA filters and it seems to me from the data I have seen across the Internet. In most scenarios these quad filters do more work at cleaning the air then HEPA filters with regards to allergens and other ultra fine or large particulates simply because they have more passes at cleaning air and more volume. CADR seems to be a better metric for determining how much filtration a fan can do and MERV 13-16 seems to be the sweet spot because of high airflow. Thank you for making the elegant and functional fans more accessible. They look very excellent quality and would love to try one out in the shop!
i am trying to figure this out as a value.. the kit is $200, the filters are $90 each x4 and the fan is around $100, by the time im done at around $650+ i could have just aimed SEVERAL large fans to exhaust air through the work area..
But, what if its hot or cold out? Or pollen season? Or you live in a dusty area? Or your in an area with lots of traffic?
God bless you for this excellent work!
This is amazing work, thanks for all the testing and design you do! Really looking forward to your next video on using woodworking cartridge filters as I've just bought one to use for drywall dust collection.
