We’re the Grimes family - welcome to our homestead!
For us homesteading is all about enjoying farm life, striving to be more self-sufficient, and being good stewards of this plot of land we’re blessed to call ours. We keep a garden, raise animals for meat and dairy, fix things when they break, and build what we need to make our lives better.
Homesteading is challenging and we are far from experts. We make mistakes but we have a passion for learning and trying new things - it’s how we grow!
We have a lot of fun around here, too, and the kids love living the country life where they can hoot and holler as loud as they want, play in the dirt, and help out with the chores. We do a lot on this little homestead, but most importantly we’re raising them to have a deep appreciation for all of God’s Creation.
Please subscribe if you’re interested in what we do around here, and we hope to see you around!

Thanks for the reminder Ragon, so very true! I appreciate you sharing the message and hope you feel better soon too. 💚🙏
I'm unsubscribing because I don't want to watch another religion's propaganda video. If you are a missionary, you can spread your religion there by opening a KZread site on this subject, so that you will not cause hurt to believing people from another religion. If you are a farmer or a KZreadr who opened this channel to make farming videos, you should share your farming videos on this site. I think it would be better to process these two events on separate platforms.
AMEN & AMEN!!
Did you get strep again?!
No! At least I don’t think I did 😅 if I did I can’t imagine how Megan didn’t get it first
Amen! Jeremiah 41:10! "So do not fear for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."
Hey y’all - I’m thinking of getting two female Pygmy’s just as pets. My backyard is fenced in plus I’m going to create a second enclosure about 20x20 for them to stay in underneath a huge tree kinda mid ways of the whole yard. I am purchasing a walk in raised large dog house with two little entrances that they can go into when it rains or just for extra feelings of their security. They are about 23 inches in height and about a year old and sisters. I was wondering: 1. Is it true that goats hate to be wet ? 2. How often should they be fed hay ? Or suggestions on food ? 3. How often should they be seen by a vet ? 4. Is it ok to just leave a huge water bin to drink from as they wish 5. Do you guys ever have issues with attacks by dogs or wildlife ? I’m surrounded by houses so no woods but I’m terrified of something attacking them 6. Do female goats get aggressive in any way ? Thanks
1. Goats do hate to be wet, they're very dramatic. But if they have a shelter where the ground stays dry they should be fine. Keeping their feet out of mud and wet is important for their hoof health. 2. Continuous access to hay. Think about a grazing environment: there is always available food and they eat when they need to eat, and, as ruminants, they chew cud and rest when they are not eating. You may choose to supplement with grain (it's a nice treat) but is not usually necessary. But they always need access to hay. 3. Being on a routine schedule with a vet isn't necessary, more of an as-needed thing. You may want to call vets in your area to make sure they will see goats as many offices local to us do not. You will want to become familiar with how to treat simple problems (coccidia, worms, etc.), especially since you'll be keeping them in an confined area. The 20x20 pen will probably be a good, safe place to sleep but I bet they'll want to get out and graze, too. 4. Huge water bin is ok, but you'll want to refresh it to keep it clean. Even a small 4-5 gallon bucket will do fine for a couple of little goats for a day or so. 5. Predators can be an issue, but if your yard is secure then you should be ok. Domestic dogs can be worse than coyotes in some situations so just keep on the lookout if a neighborhood dog starts to get a little too curious. 6. Some females can be aggressive to one another, really just depends on their personality. Bottom line is this: as a backyard keeper, you'll have similar-but-different challenges to someone keeping goats on a homestead. But good shelter, good food, clean water, and doing what you can to keep the parasite load down will go a long way. You may be able to join a local goat group on Facebook, too. Some of those folks can be a little over-the-top but there are things you can learn from them. Best of luck!
@@GWPHomesteadthanks a lot ❤
I'm planning on testing Juniper just so I can make sure they didn't get anything here. And I want the option to bring her to Heather's!
Awesome!
Man I done a 12-20volt lithium adapter today and thsi ole power wheels has sat outside for 20 years but 3 cuts and butt terminals and shit you can’t hold the front end on the ground I clocked my 3 yr old 12mph lmao. Yours seems really slow compared to mine today? But I am blowing 30amp fuses about every ten minutes . I blocked reverse so they can only go forward to maybe save some gears for a bit longer . All in all he was very happy and hell may need a helmet as fast as this sob is running lol
🌻🐛🌿💚🙏🙏
Thanks 😊
Megan: The Goat Whisperer. LOL I have a feeling I would be the same way, just sitting with my goats and sharing the funny antics. I'm kind of already like that with cats... My Mom used to call me Ellie May because I was always bringing home stray/injured/orphaned animals and they only liked me (wouldn't show affection to anyone else). Hahaha
They’re so fun but they do not make it easy to record videos 😅
That was a fun day and I'm so happy you can officially say you've got a clean herd status! ♥
Yes! Thank you all for your help.
Peace of mind is priceless. Good job Megan!
Thank you Cathy!
Ice cream of course ❤❤❤
Mmmmm 🍦
Hello. What are the width, length and height dimensions of this chicken tractor in feet or meters? How many meat chickens can you raise in a chicken tractor with this square meter size, according to legal standards?
Tractor is 6ft wide by 8ft long (48 square ft). Not sure of any legal standards, but a good rule of thumb is 2 sq.ft./bird when the tractor is moved daily. This tractor is over 6ft tall, but that’s only because I like to be able to walk in without having to crawl around.
I want to get a 🐐 for my dad he would 💘 it
They’re the best!
So wild animals don't have a retirement plan? I am not much on hunting, but I would hunt every day of cow season!
I have a bunch of random like leafs with stems coming up away from the tree stump about 6 feet from the stump in each direction. would this help the random leaf roots surrounding the tree from growing?
Yes, what you’ve got there is a stump sprout
Loved this video!! Thanks so much for the insight on the lime and a look at all your goats! Looking forward to following y'all. :)
Thanks for being here!
Black locusts never make thorns on the trunk only on new growth (also that bark doesn't look correct either) what you have is a honey locust
Thank you Reagan! A great reminder for us to stay pure & centered on Our Lord for He is eternal!! God bless!
Thanks Merry Anne!
Love being Salty, haha. In seriousness though, I appreciate the message of staying true/pure/solid versus becoming diluted and weak. Thank you for sharing, Ragon! 💚🙏
Beautifully put, Misty!
Thanks for watching!
Need a sharper hatchet
Yup.
Dies this work on cedar trees?
Haven’t tried it myself. Cedars I just cut below the bottom branch and fell them.
I take it you're pouring concentrate? Or is it diluted?
Tordon RTU is their “ready-to-use” blend and does not require dilution.
Just to let everyone know……..If the roots of the tree stump you cut are intertwined with roots of another tree, that tree will be dead also!!! Dont take it that Im not a proponent of proper Tordon use, because I am. We use it on the farm all the time. Particularly in fence rows. But take it from my mistakes, trees that are extremely close may not be a candidate for Tordon if you value the neighboring trees.
Is it safe to get them spayed?
Wethers (castrated males) make good lawn ornaments, but there’s really no reason to spay a female. Not a lot of wild goats running around the neighborhood looking to wreak havoc.
I saw someone use chia seeds to thicken jam
Interesting! Hadn’t heard that before.
You did awesome. Jan was first thing i ever made too. Congrats
Thank you!
Ice cream
Noted!
Goat milk lotion because it is a very different and unique topic. I love your idea of learning a new skill each month. You are inspiring. 🤔💡
Just made another batch of lotion tonight, thanks!
I had a 100% hatch rate the first time I used our incubator, then it dropped to 60% the next time. A more experienced person told me I might have a contaminated incubator. So I cleaned it very thoroughly with clorox spray paying close attention to the water ports , rinsed it well and dried it. Next go around I was back up to 100% hatch rate. I wasn’t aware of how fragile the eggs are, you must wash your hands before handling them as they are porous and mold in the water port is not good. Hope this helps
That is great information! Thank you so much for sharing.
Awesome job! I vote for lotion,
Thank you!
So funny: I tried peach jam for the first time today, and it didn't set! 😱 Thank you for the encouragement not to give up! I'm interested in all, but if those listed, is like to see goat milk lotion, but the cowboy butter also intrigues me! 🤠
After reading other comments, I guess you can see that I don't have a sweet tooth 😜 ice cream would be good to learn, so I can use my peach topping on it! 😂
That peach syrup would be awesome on ice cream!
@@GWPHomestead it was! 😋
Thank you, Reagan! Great reminder to thank our Heavenly Father for providing us with a wonderful earthly father! Happy Father's Day to you on Sunday! God bless!
Thank you Merry Anne!
My grape vine looks to be loaded, I really want to try making some jelly. I have only attempted to can anything once and my mom helped with that, sadly I don’t have her here to help me now. Does that book have a grape jelly recipe in it?
Yes it has grape jelly and grape jam recipes in it.
Lovely looking jam there Megan! I think your previous attempts were still useful, just not what you were aiming for. Turned out this time, so just goes to show keep on trying! I have to agree with some of the other commenters that the goat milk ice cream sounds fabulous, but honestly I'd love to see all of them! hahaha. 💚🍓
I think the ice cream voters might have this one!
Butter 🧈
We love that butter!
ooohhh Goat Milk Custard-based Ice Cream sounds perfect for July! Congrats on making a successful batch of jam that set up & not getting too discouraged at the other time it didn't set up - still edible, still yummy!
That ice cream has been AMAZING here lately!
Great job! I love sure jel! Choice for next time.....ice cream!
Lots of votes for ice cream!
Goat milk ice cream!!!
It’s so good!

Yay for learning new skills!
So much fun!
Jam lookes delicious..Great video Megan.i really enjoy the canning videos. Thanks for sharing with us...
Thank you!
Ooooo....I want to learn about ALL those options!! 😊
Yes but we need you to pick ONE 😂
@@GWPHomestead 😔 only 1??? OK, maybe the ice cream.....🤔 or maybe....... 🤔😉
There's nothing wrong with strawberry syrup!!! You have the learning experience, nothing went to waste AND some amazing syrup!! Good work, Megan! God bless!
The syrup is awesome!
That jam was so good too!!!
It’s delicious!
A 180 thermostat will work for 5.4 motors that won't hold enough oil pressure at higher temperatures .
After replacing rocker/ rollers .. I'll try with the original thermostat temperatures. Then move on to my timing chain ... Oil pressure is more important than temperatures for this ...
Look good you did a good job
Thank-you for sharing your struggles, I have lots of situational stress right now that has been difficult and made my health hard to manage❤ your message was inspiring:)
Glad it helped! Thank you so much. Hang in there ❤️
