I got a Chrome 12th Doctor Sonic like the one shown here from Dark Cyber Sabers, with the ones on eBay are apparently clones of their clone from what I've read. I could be wrong, so correct me if I am, I did pay roughly £90 for it all in all. It came packaged with a lot of Hong Kong addresses and chinese writing/warnings, etc, on the box as well.

Do you know if the back of the box of the one you had said Surreal Entertainment on it? If so then, having looked at Dark Cyber Sabers it seems more like they've bought up a load of the sonics and then sold them at a higher price. I'm more inclined to go with the information I've got come from the actual toy manufacturers who deal with knock off and things like this all the time, so they would be more in a position to known. But that's only my interpretation of what information I have to hand.

My 12th Doctor Sonic (not chromed) came from ebay just after I saw Surreal Entertainment producing them and managed to find something cheaper on the former - after watching this I'm 80% sure its the good one (no flaking, details feel right, sounds good) and the toy is just for me, so...while i cant be sure its not a SE version, I'm just going to be happy with it for now. I have a 12th Doctor Sonic Screwdriver 😊

It's certainly not a bad sonic on the surface by any means and it is a way for people to get hold of one they missed, but on the flip side it is a knock off version and it's a shame that's the route people have to go down to get one

It's a shame the 12th doctor chrome sonic is a knockoff, it's quite nice. The downside for having dodgy sonics being sold is that the originals are getting hard to find at a reasonable price, so you're stuck between a rock and a hard place as a collector.

  • @CaptainJimiPie

Hopefully we might see a selection of re-releases of sonics in future, probably not chromed ones but like they did for the 50th they've got more they could release in single packages now

I bought a standard color version of their Twelve Sonic and have been pretty satisfied with it, fills a hole in my collection I've had for a bit. Though one downside I found is that the mold tooling took out the holes behind the battery compartment included to easily push expired batteries out. Changing them is a lot more of a pain now. One thing you miss from not taking the sonics out of the packaging is that the Eleventh sonic is a strange hybrid between the original 11th mold and the Touch-control 12th upgrade, in that the original mold's bottom-button is retained even though no electronics are connected to it. So it's a useless button (and the cap is fairly loose over it) that detracts from the aesthetic of the standard touch-control 12 sonic) and of course lacks the removable capsule).

Doing my own research on these Sonics for my own personal collection, the chrome one specifically seems to be made by a Hong Kong startup toy company called Nawya Replica. There is a small underground following of Doctor Who in Hong Kong and China who don't have normal access to Sonics we have, and especially things like Rubbertoe Replicas and whatnot. Nawya's goal is to make cosplayable Doctor Who merchandise for that Chinese market. They're even doing a metal 12th Doctor Sonic with the same White and Red functions. Apparently they aren't supposed to leave China, but with the knockoff scene being what it is, of course they are leaking out to eBay and Aliexpress. Just some background knowledge for ya, especially if you're interested in future Sonics they are doing for display.

  • @CaptainJimiPie
    @CaptainJimiPie10 күн бұрын

I had heard rumours about Nawya Replica's involvement however I specifically didn't mention them in this video as I have also seen supposed evidence of them taking issue against those suggesting their replicas are being produced illegally, whether that is true or not. So for my own legal cover I stress to add I'm simply repeating what I've heard and I'm not making any such allegations myself.

The Tenth version is definitely official. For reasons unknown to me (or anyone for that matter) all Tenth sonic releases for the past few years have used that soundchip (which originated from a Fourth Doctor sonic release and then was more notably used on the War Doctor's). I'd also definitely say the middle Twelfth is real. The boxes on the knockoffs look more haphazardly assembled in contrast to the official ones. I also noticed the pulsating green light on the twelfth knockoffs were more like a flash. Another thing to note too, I'm pretty sure the Surreal sonics actually uses slightly different materials and/or they recast the molds hence the slightly weaker detail.

  • @CaptainJimiPie

The middle Twelfth & Eleventh are definitely real, and I was pretty sure The Tenth's one was but it's good to have it confirmed. The Surreal sonics do feel slightly cheaper in terms of plastic which is hard to capture on videos for obvious reason but it wouldn't surprise me if being an American product is more cheaply produced using lighter materials.

Look for positives? Here’s a positive, it looks great 😍! The one downside for me is that the turning section at the bottom really needed to be silver to stand out from the rest of the gold. Either that or it should have been inverse colours, so everything silver on the original is now gold, and everything gold on the original is silver, as the turning section needed to be a different colour from what surrounded it. Won’t be picking it up as I have the chrome one and the b&m and series 14 sets are a bigger priority, but if it’s still in stock after I buy the rest of character’s who output this year, I’ll probably get it.

In a 2004 short trips anthology, McGann is going grey and believes he’ll soon regenerate. There’s then a gap before we pick up with Blood of the Daleks. It’s the perfect place to drop a bonus incarnation, Mid-Eighth Doctor so the Shalka Doctor succeeds McGann, but later following a degeneration so does Hurt and Eccleston.

  • @CaptainJimiPie

If memory serves you're referring to the short story The End. in which The Eighth Doctor questions if his end is coming because his lack of memories at times but later finds out this isn't the case. Whilst you COULD potentially put an incarnation between McGann & Hurt, personally I just don't think it works because it's far too "convenient" just have The Doctor degenerate to retcon that timeline, it doesn't really serve any real purpose to the continuing narrative.

The problem there though is by creating a whole new incarnation between War & McGann it would mean The Tenth Doctor would be the last incarnation, therefore never becoming The Eleventh and the events on Trenzalore and the creation of The Doctor's Timestream/grave would never happen. As such it means that The Great Intelligence would never have stepped in it in the first place so they would effectively erase their own future and thereby their past. You COULD argue that the Trenzalore events still happened but with The Tenth Doctor in the place of The Eleventh, but as I said in the video at that point you're having to create alot of non-canon/fan assumptions that there's no real basis for.

But this is exactly my point, I'm not saying that people can't have their own head canons, that's why my fan theories are after all, but by doing things like saying "suppose this happened" or "let's just add another regeneration/incarnation in here" it's not building on existing plot points, it's simply adding it random things which have no real basis JUST to make it work. The extra Evolution regeneration for example doesn't stand up because he wouldn't have stayed looking like The Tenth Doctor. The only reason he did that in Stolen Earth/Journey's End was because he had a receptacle in the form of his severed hand to channel off the excess energy and regenerate without changing. He didn't have anything like that in Evolution, so it doesn't stand up without inventing some kind of "deus ex machina"

It’s not a doctor it’s the great intelligence from when he went into the timeline, good theory, but sadly shalka and COFD isn’t canon sadly

To be fair Doctor Who has never had an established canon, alot of people say the TV show IS the only established canon but that in itself has often referenced much of the expanded media, meaning therefore that expanded media is also canon. Being an alternate timeline doesn't mean it's not canon overall, it's just not canon to that particular timeline. The show has delved into the concept of alternate timelines enough for them to generally be accepted within the shows narrative existence.

Ever since the Great Intelligence in the form of Dr Simeon entered the Doctor's timestream at the end of The Name of the Doctor, I've retroactively placed the Shalka Doctor as a G.I. incarnation. Since Rogue, I've slightly fudged the concept by believing that the regeneration between the War Doctor and the Ninth Doctor was interrupted by the Great Intelligence inserting itself in the Doctor's timeline. After all, we never see the completion of Hurt to Eccleston, and as the Grant version wasn't an actual regeneration, the regeneration limit still stands. I don't know if I've explained that very well, but I do think it makes sense.

The biggest problem with him coming between The War & Ninth Doctor's is that The Shalka Doctor exists in a universe where The Last Great Time War never took place, and coupling that with his comments about having had 8 previous incarnations it means The War Doctor also never existed in the Shalka timeline.
