I am a midwest-based photographer and videographer. I freelance in college sports photography for Pittsburg State University, my alma mater. I also am a multimedia production specialist for the City of Pittsburg Kansas. I love trying out new gear and old gear. Speaking of old gear, I love shooting film that is from 35mm to medium format film so I do have a couple film cameras I tend to do videos over. You can follow me on IG or Twitter where I post my work.

Its a bit disappointing there are no more pictures of you using it and the outcome.
sorry
Do you have any studio with this lense?
I wish and maybe Ill get a chance soon to do some studio stuff. Ill put it on the list for a future video. It's a solid lens for the price. I use it for video often for the macro capabilities and its very good.
@DLivingston I'm souly going to use it in my studio. I shoot with the Canon EOS R5C with lense adapters for my ef glass. But capture 1 doesn't communicate with the ef adapters. So I have the 16mm, 35mm, & 50mm non L glass
Great videos I enjoy them
Idk why they'd make it so small if it were meant for the studio. Gotta make compromises to fit that big sensor in a small body, and if you're gonna be inside a studio all day you don't need the camera to be very portable.
Im simply speculating. I did very little research and just wanted to try it out blindly so I could be wrong on that. I just know Hass is usually a studio camera from what ive been told growing up around photography. Obviously any camera can be used in almost any way that you choose.
Good tips, and you're right, you don't often hear about them. I guess they aren't as sexy as gear reviews or camera settings!
Thanks Jack, I agree. Simple tips that aren’t always shared. They’re small but they do help. Appreciate you coming through!
I just bought kodak tx400 but i dont know how to use it🤣
The camera? or just the film?
Thanks man
No problem
Are these a few tips you find helpful?
Easy. Keep up mate
Keep Up? Where we going?
@@DLivingston keep up the good work 😃
do you rate this at 125 or 250? Vision3 250d works well at 125.
I shot it at box speed.
do you know by chance where I can find he preset you used
They are from FroPack 1,2 and 3 from Jared Polin or FroKnowsPhot.
I got an 01 error message . Doesn’t work
Hmm, that’s interesting. I’ve never had any issues. Might make sure you’ve got your cameras firmware update.
Could you please share the specific Look you have in the Creative section please. Thank you very much.
To be honest, that changes all the time. This video is old enough, I know I have moved on from the specific look I was using and no longer have the file. I usually find mine from other creators that I follow who sell presets.
@@DLivingston Thank you for responding, I will look into others too.

Great Video! Do you know if the aperture and zoom length changes when using the adapter, like maybe a 70-200 2.8 becomes a 100-230 f4?
That is not the case. The only time that would happen is when using a teleconverter. Thanks for watching!
Let's goo ✊
Thanks for swinging through Nuno!
5 bucks for that camera is crazy because it's definitely a tiny beast! Also love ultramax and now I see where the Corvette stingray pic from IG came from 👀
Dude, I was blown away because most antique markets have cameras marked up so high and to find this one and 2 others for under like $12. Lucky me! This camera was never on my radar but it is sooooo good!
Thanks Derek. This is an example of why we love what we do and offering athletes great memories to take on their journey of life. Great work.
Well said and thanks!
This channel is awesome! Want to create something similar and take pictures for a college! Great work
Hey, I appreciate it! You can do it, just do the work!
Very nice video.Realy ! Nice music, for a classic camera. Your video makes me nostalgic. Thanx !
Glad you enjoyed it
You are a lucky guy because you weather conditions were perfect. When the weather is bad you can get problems with that lens
I can only imagine 😬
85mm 🔥🔥
I agree
Good video, it helped me
Great 👍
Lut link is not working and it's not getting downloaded. It's showing downloading.......... But not downloading
Hmm, I will take a look at that. It's been awhile since I have looked at this video.
I just clicked the download link and it worked for me on a non personal computer. Could be a firewall setting on your PC.
Jesus! Either you have a tiny head or this thing is huge! Wow. Off I go to eBay…
Ha! My head is giant so I’d say the camera is just bigger 😅
great video man. just bought mine today from a garage sale and cannot wait to get rolling.
That is awesome! Happy shooting and thanks for watching. I appreciate it
I was using the Canon RF 100-400 for over a year and loved it so much. Such a great budget lens!! I needed the extra reach so I got the RF 100-500. It is fantastic!! After taking pics for over 20 years I know I can never go below 500mm at least for baseball. For me, 300 or 400 will not cut it unless you constantly move around closer to your subjects. It even does well in lower light situations. I shoot everything hand held and it’s so awesome. I’m absolutely in love with it. My wrists think otherwise but seriously anyone that is thinking about it won’t regret it.
That’s awesome, I might rent the 100-500 this next academic year. So far 400mm has been a great alternative for baseball but 500 would be nice from third to right field. Thanks for swinging by!
I agree with you. I actually prefer a 50mm 1.8 for VB sidelines and BB under the basket shots, but that's just preference. The f/1.8 definitely helps in dimly lit gyms - and I think all gyms seem dimly lit. I shoot for a DI P5 school and still have issues with lighting.
Yeah lighting is rough. The high schools here are much brighter than the college!
Great video and concept! Love it Keep them coming!
Hey, thanks for watching!
Hey Derek have you ever tried out the expo disc
Years ago when I was an intern we used it a few times with my Nikon d3s
This past season, I thought the 300mm would've been a perfect length for softball. The 400mm just seems too close at some fields. Great insight and captures!
What lens, 70-200mm?
For the most part yes
Why 1/800 shutter speed and not faster? What kind of lighting is in the gym?
Very dim lighting or I would go faster.
Good info and good shots. It would be nice to have more separation from the crowd. One idea is to put your focus box on the bottom of the frame when you are on the opposite side shooting your players through the net. You then focus on the attacker's legs under the net because in most attacks, the player's head is in basically the same plane as their thighs so you avoid your AF grabbing the net. Also, it's great to get some shots in warm-ups. Usually if you ask, the referees are fine with you using the referee's stand during warm-ups. Also during warm-ups, I like to put my camera on the floor on a Platypod just beside or slightly under the referee stand and then shoot up at attacking players. You get some very dynamic shots that way. Good job and keep it up. Yes, volleyball is hard (I shoot for a DI P5 school) but it can also be very rewarding.
Never thought of aiming for the kegs when shooting across. Great tip, I’ll try it out in the fall! I do shoot pregame just don’t usually share that in videos! It gives me options to get players that don’t play often! Thanks for swinging by Mike!

for some reason google isn't much help today. I'm trying to turn continuous AF on but it's seriously not even an option on page 1 of AF in my settings. everything says it should be right under eye detection but alas, nothing there :/ is there another setting I have enabled that might bring up CAF if I turn off?
That is weird. I just took a look at my R6 and it was there even when switching different modes. The only time it wasn't there was when I put my dial on the Video Camera. Which gives you a different set of settings and it's called Movie Servo AF.
My school I shoot for is red and gold! Can I get your preset? Curious!
When I get back from vacation I’ll see if I can get something sent your way. Dm me on IG. @gorillaphotog
I use the Canon RF 1200mm lens. The distance I shoot from is 465ft or 155 yards in straight away center field in a tower. No cropping required on photos shot from beyond the center field wall all the way to home plate. If you have to crop it's okay if you're putting the photos online or for social media use. I have the RF 1200mm lens because I make prints. Also, you may want in to invest in a Sigma 120-300mm f/2.8, new or used for your Canon camera.
Yeah, I have used the 120-300 many times over the years when I shot Nikon. Solid focal length and thought about it tbh. Also, even cropping these photos from outfield to home plate with the 300mm they've worked for wall wraps and advertisment prints so no worries there, thankfully.
My volleyball daughters have tormented me endlessly for saying "spike", "spiker" or "spiking". Apparently, it's "hit", "hitter" and "hitting". I'm on the West Coast though; maybe it's different back east? Great Photos! Thanks for taking the time to share and help the rest of us learn.
I don’t know what the proper terms are. I’m going with what I think they are. Ha! Also thanks for watching!
The position is Outside Hitter or Opposite (Hitter). Spike is a specific type of attack designed to drive the ball quickly to the floor without giving an opponent a chance to defend.
Great video and pics
I appreciate it! Thanks for watching
niceee
Thanks for swinging through!
Where are your videos on using this lens with sports ?
This video shows photos from using the 300 and the 70-200. the 70-200 photos are the floor level shots. kzread.info/dash/bejne/dHialLuLYbCWctI.htmlsi=wRMYnRGVzpuBg6cA This softball video is mostly shot with the 70-200: kzread.info/dash/bejne/g6tpzdSvZpisaKQ.htmlsi=seNB6mmE2Fmaa21- this video also has a good amount of 70-200 images used: kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZX6lsKNuoc2WYpc.htmlsi=IgZqgO6hZBcuKqwY With that said, I will be sure to do a 70-200 specific video next season when we get into Volleyball and Football

Thanks for the video. I‘m still a DSLR shooter with a few EF lenses. As I‘m eyeing a move to the R6/R5 I’m always interested in info regarding adapting EF lenses. I‘m surprised you didn’t get 12fps with the 100-400 because it is listed as being compatible with that spec. Any idea why you couldn’t get it to that speed? Regards, Michael
TBH, I have no idea. I saw it was listed which is why I rented it. But in electronic shutter, the lens was spot on all day long.
Very nice photos. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching! Appreciate it!
Thank you!
Hope it was helpful
The first lens i had with my R6 was the ef 100-400 adapted. It was always a solid sharp lens for me on my 5D3 and thr R6. Ever since i added the rf100-500, i retired the ef 100-400. Just sits in a bag as backup. I like my R6 but wanted get the R3 but it seems the R3 is not desired much? So now i am considering the R6 ll for less than 2k. Hear more positive reviews on it verses R3. Any thoughts. Thx for the video.
I have never used the r3 so I have no say in the matter. I will say, I’ve never had the urge to upgrade to the r3 until the announcement of the r1 in hopes the prices drop for the r3. I have the 100-500 on my list to rent and try out next season. As always, thanks for watching.
I’m glad you made this video because there aren’t too many on KZread that have an R body with this lens. I’ve been thinking about getting this same lens for some extra reach for softball/soccer but I’m still undecided. I’m kinda disappointed that it didn’t do well mechanically especially since it’s a Canon because I have the same issue with the Sigma 120-300 f/2.8 in regard to FPS. I found a used one for about $1,500.00 and been seriously thinking about it. Do you feel that the extra 100mm is worth it if I already have something that goes 300mm and that I often push to 480mm via the magnification setting on the R5/R6 while still maintaining the f/2.8? By the way, great content and the pics look great.
Sadly, not alot of lenses are supported in full mechanical when adapted. Really is a shame. The extra 100mm was def worth it that day at the track meet since I was limited on where I was allowed to go. Keep in mind, the magnification in camera is cutting your megapixels down when you do that in camera. I am not sure if its worth the extra 100mm overall since it's not a prime, it might have felt better in the hands due to a honeymoon phase of having a new lens and the capability to zoom from 100 to 400. Thanks for watching!
