    I wish and maybe Ill get a chance soon to do some studio stuff. Ill put it on the list for a future video. It's a solid lens for the price. I use it for video often for the macro capabilities and its very good.

    Idk why they'd make it so small if it were meant for the studio. Gotta make compromises to fit that big sensor in a small body, and if you're gonna be inside a studio all day you don't need the camera to be very portable.

    Im simply speculating. I did very little research and just wanted to try it out blindly so I could be wrong on that. I just know Hass is usually a studio camera from what ive been told growing up around photography. Obviously any camera can be used in almost any way that you choose.

    I was using the Canon RF 100-400 for over a year and loved it so much. Such a great budget lens!! I needed the extra reach so I got the RF 100-500. It is fantastic!! After taking pics for over 20 years I know I can never go below 500mm at least for baseball. For me, 300 or 400 will not cut it unless you constantly move around closer to your subjects. It even does well in lower light situations. I shoot everything hand held and it’s so awesome. I’m absolutely in love with it. My wrists think otherwise but seriously anyone that is thinking about it won’t regret it.

  • @DLivingston
    @DLivingstonАй бұрын

    That’s awesome, I might rent the 100-500 this next academic year. So far 400mm has been a great alternative for baseball but 500 would be nice from third to right field. Thanks for swinging by!

    I agree with you. I actually prefer a 50mm 1.8 for VB sidelines and BB under the basket shots, but that's just preference. The f/1.8 definitely helps in dimly lit gyms - and I think all gyms seem dimly lit. I shoot for a DI P5 school and still have issues with lighting.

    Good info and good shots. It would be nice to have more separation from the crowd. One idea is to put your focus box on the bottom of the frame when you are on the opposite side shooting your players through the net. You then focus on the attacker's legs under the net because in most attacks, the player's head is in basically the same plane as their thighs so you avoid your AF grabbing the net. Also, it's great to get some shots in warm-ups. Usually if you ask, the referees are fine with you using the referee's stand during warm-ups. Also during warm-ups, I like to put my camera on the floor on a Platypod just beside or slightly under the referee stand and then shoot up at attacking players. You get some very dynamic shots that way. Good job and keep it up. Yes, volleyball is hard (I shoot for a DI P5 school) but it can also be very rewarding.

    Never thought of aiming for the kegs when shooting across. Great tip, I’ll try it out in the fall! I do shoot pregame just don’t usually share that in videos! It gives me options to get players that don’t play often! Thanks for swinging by Mike!

    That is weird. I just took a look at my R6 and it was there even when switching different modes. The only time it wasn't there was when I put my dial on the Video Camera. Which gives you a different set of settings and it's called Movie Servo AF.

    I use the Canon RF 1200mm lens. The distance I shoot from is 465ft or 155 yards in straight away center field in a tower. No cropping required on photos shot from beyond the center field wall all the way to home plate. If you have to crop it's okay if you're putting the photos online or for social media use. I have the RF 1200mm lens because I make prints. Also, you may want in to invest in a Sigma 120-300mm f/2.8, new or used for your Canon camera.

  • @DLivingston
    @DLivingstonАй бұрын

    Yeah, I have used the 120-300 many times over the years when I shot Nikon. Solid focal length and thought about it tbh. Also, even cropping these photos from outfield to home plate with the 300mm they've worked for wall wraps and advertisment prints so no worries there, thankfully.

    The first lens i had with my R6 was the ef 100-400 adapted. It was always a solid sharp lens for me on my 5D3 and thr R6. Ever since i added the rf100-500, i retired the ef 100-400. Just sits in a bag as backup. I like my R6 but wanted get the R3 but it seems the R3 is not desired much? So now i am considering the R6 ll for less than 2k. Hear more positive reviews on it verses R3. Any thoughts. Thx for the video.

    I’m glad you made this video because there aren’t too many on KZread that have an R body with this lens. I’ve been thinking about getting this same lens for some extra reach for softball/soccer but I’m still undecided. I’m kinda disappointed that it didn’t do well mechanically especially since it’s a Canon because I have the same issue with the Sigma 120-300 f/2.8 in regard to FPS. I found a used one for about $1,500.00 and been seriously thinking about it. Do you feel that the extra 100mm is worth it if I already have something that goes 300mm and that I often push to 480mm via the magnification setting on the R5/R6 while still maintaining the f/2.8? By the way, great content and the pics look great.

  • @DLivingston
    @DLivingston2 ай бұрын

    Sadly, not alot of lenses are supported in full mechanical when adapted. Really is a shame. The extra 100mm was def worth it that day at the track meet since I was limited on where I was allowed to go. Keep in mind, the magnification in camera is cutting your megapixels down when you do that in camera. I am not sure if its worth the extra 100mm overall since it's not a prime, it might have felt better in the hands due to a honeymoon phase of having a new lens and the capability to zoom from 100 to 400. Thanks for watching!
