@brahimakante4614, Macodou was playing a great game but it was not easy to convert the endgame under time pressure, as Anton kept resisting. In the end he managed to win with a nice trick. Unfortunately, Macodou lost the last two games to Ron Heusdens and Thomy Lucien Mbongo, which put him back to the thirteenth spot in the final rankings.

After white's last move (18-13) black has to capture two pieces because of the majority rule (8x30), after which white takes both a piece and the king from black (25x43). In the remaining position, white is one piece ahead and wins easily. As such, black resigned (or, rather, by getting up white assumed black would resign, before he actually did).

Both players still had a bit of time (there was a 3 second increment per move), sufficient for black to convert the position into a win. there was no need to concede. sacrifice the checker on 36 and play 1 piece down. dont allow the shot thats available and close the 19. i believe he could have played this a piece down.

Thank you for your comment Abe. At the highest level, at which both Thomy and Alexander are operating, being a piece down without compensation is practically losing. But I like your fighting spirit and get why you would play on in such positions.

Hello Tommy. I am told these specific boards have been made in Turkey. I do not know by whom and how you can get them. I do know the Royal Dutch Draughts Federation offers boards that are a bit more traditional (brown/white in stead of blue/grey) and aesthetically pleasing (there is no clear division in the middle). Since if he would have made a king in the corner, it might be trapped on the long diagonal. It was much safer and more flexible to sacrifice a piece and crown on square 48.

Indeed Douwe, white has a construction in place to catch a future king on 46, ending with 24x2 or 24x4. Boomstra played the strongest continuation. In fact, he played a very strong game overall, except for his last move, which gave it all away.

No it wasn't a draw. Black could only move left there at the end. If he'd gone right, he would've lost the piece, and white wins. If he goes left, then whatever happens, black ends up losing just the same.

At the end if black goes left white will move his queen to the corner ( just where white's pawn is going at 0:15 ) black will promote, white then offers his pawn by going to the diagonal where both queens are facing each other, black"s queen takes, white's queen takes back and also the remaining black pawn.

Hello Pedro, thank you for your comment.This was the only matched played: the first player to win a game would win the final. In the end position Thomy Mbongo resigned, as he would lose a piece after 37-32!
