    Wow! You must look at the fret board and see this beautiful connected spiderweb mosaic. Could you do a very basic surf chord progression at a super begginer level and maybe tie in arpeggio options for lead licks around the chords?

    Yes I have some ideas. Thanks for helping me think of things for a person like you. You are exactly my target audience. I really want you to learn and enjoy your guitar. I got a bit lost. Can you try to drop the camera to display your picking hand too please in the next one keeping both in frame? Maybe im too beginner for this one. I figured out i like 1645 alot. Typical surf goes in other directions from a doo wop though right?

    Thanks for the primer on my controls! I saw its huge how you strum to either go snappy or jazzy beyond the switches! I just got my green squier about 3 weeks back after drooling for one for so long. I knew after hearing them in classic surf bands i had to go with it, its super short 24 inch scale and bright single pickups are just the cats meow. In time hopefully i can learn to improv something you will like. I just pick- strum and it makes me smile so much. Its like driving an old classic car with the curves and chrome

    My jaguar ive had a couple of weeks is my dream guitar! Being new can i ask how you utilize the lead/rythm and strangulation unique to jags? Ive found a wonderful crisp bright bridge with strangulation for high surf chims and spanish acustic sounds, but BUT i want the rythm above that goes into the neck to get a smooth jazz sound. Ideas?

  • @brookhoover1384
    @brookhoover1384Күн бұрын

    so you want a fat jazz box sound out of the neck pickup? I'd experiment with turning the tone knob down a touch or a lot. Also flip the upper bout switch so that the upper controls are engaged and then turn down the volume a tiny bit and it should be real thick and thunky. After that, it's all in the hands

  • @Greenjagsurf
    @GreenjagsurfКүн бұрын

    @@brookhoover1384 thanks! I knew there was more than just messing around with the tone to get that creamy dreamy jazz sound. I didn't even think about how I'm plucking in the hands. So far I hate picks. Not sure why. I can't do miserlou if I can't pick fast

    I don't really play a phrygian chord progression.. if I do it's just the minor 1 chord and the major chord on the flatted 2nd...but usually if I'm playing an aeolian chord progression I'll throw that major flat 2 chord in there once in a while just to give it a little phrygian flavour. The minor second is a very ominous interval. I also really like phrygian dominant which is the 5th mode of harmonic minor. Less Mexican sounding.. more Egyptian.lol

    This is a great lesson. You've got me practicing my E phyigan SPANISH SCALE, working the fret board, but making it pretty enough it's not blindly playing scales. Then the end where you throw in a bit of Princes secret spice to show where it can go! This is the first step to boldly take a small movement toward Princes solo in my guitar gentley weeps!

    David Gilmore has more soul and can get more emotion out of one not than that Batio guy who can shredd 2 guitars ( left and right) at the same time! It's way cool but where's the soul? You videos are very easy to understand,you are on topic and don't get too distracted as I do. You are no doubt creating a new generation of guitar players get back to the music in a way that everyone can understand. I think you have found your niche and you should feel very good about being able to inspire young and old to pick up that guitar.KUDOS

    Cowboy chords are the foundation of everything. We can also call that the CAGED system. Basically it means we use C, A, G, E and D chord shapes and move them up the neck to form scales, chords and arpeggios. Glad you dig some of my content! Ask away if you have a question and I'll do my best to respond with a video.

    I'm a 61 year old beginner a year in, so maybe a stupid question. What kinds of timing are right for playing arpeggios? I can mimic what I hear but don't understand it in terms of quarter notes and such. Kind of the same way I end up playing Seven Nation Army. 😅

    Do you play guitars with the FR system? I steer my students away from them if possible. It usually takes the entire lesson just to get them tuned. For an experienced player they can work but I was never comfortable with that type of bridge.
