Dressed for My Day with Kay Harms
Hello!
Welcome to Dressed for My Day. I share fashion, beauty and fitness tips for women 50+. Each week I upload videos that show you different ways to style the pieces already in your closet, how to participate in fashion trends without blowing your budget or compromising your own style and how to build a wardrobe that really works for you. I'm doing the research so you don't have to!
As I've grown older I've found it a struggle to stay current, modern and fresh in my style while staying true to my lifestyle and personal preferences. I don't want to look like I'm trying too hard. But I also don't want to look like I'm not trying at all. Like you, I'm not done yet! Life has changed in my 50s, but this is no time to bail on beauty, style and fitness. Join me as I encourage and inspire women just like you and me to get dressed for our unique days...so we can engage graciously and authentically with those around us and influence them well.
Blessings!

Love your hair and makeup Kay!!
Loved the video today. You have a glowing look so the Alaska trip must have done its job! I absolutely am thrilled with the way to tie the shirt in the from - how cool is that. I cannot get on the band wagon with the button up part of the shirt tucked. It just looks like we are trying too hard. The clothes you show really work well together.
Thank you for including the coastal casual booklet with suggestions for my wardrobe. I already have several pieces but find I always put the same pieces together and having other options is helpful. I love the costal casual look and appreciate all your ideas especially the last hack with the tie in front on a button top. I have some hats but don’t wear them often. I always felt they were too dressy for my outfit but I do see they can be worn with lacks as well. I appreciate all the thought and effort you put into your videos and blogs. ❤️🥰
I look pretty good with things tucked in when I’m standing, but when I sit I feel like my tummy hangs over and I feel very uncomfortable and self conscious 😮
My vibe since birth Boston/Cape Cod native🇺🇲☺️
You looked lovely in the light coral pink top w the necklace. You have a real women’s body and it’s very encouraging to see how well you wear current outfits. It’s more than just clothes. Our clothes have such a big impact on our self confidence. ❤
Thanks for this great video, Kay. Such a joy to watch in my southeast Australian winter! Can’t wait to try these ideas out. 😊
Thanks Kay. Blessings 😊
I like your new haircut, I just had 3 inches taken off mine.
Great one today Kay. Love the variety of ideas.
Hi Kay! I just found you! I’m 67 and need tons of encouragement and advice. You look so pretty in pink. I can’t wait for your What To Wear suggestions 😊.
Great video, Kay! I loved every single outfit, this is my style. I already own very similar items to most of these shown, in fact, my husband and I recently visited our local Farmer's Market and I carried my trusty canvas market bag to hold all the fruits, vegetables and gift items we found. Our home is decorated in a similar coastal vibe (we're beach people) with the same color palette as my wardrobe, just realized that, lol. Thanks for the information!
Not buying $200+ loafers
Thanks so much for including the style hack for tying a shirt! I’ve never been able to make that look right so I will definitely use that!!❤
LOVE the style hacks...especially the last one! I could never get it to lie correctly!
In my closet I have a top that is white with navy stripes that is a sleek/stretch material that I purchased at Chicos a few years ago. I do not wear linen but I do wear cotton so I do have a pair of both white and a sand colored straight slacks that I purchased from Talbots Outlet last year. I also have quite a few white cotton blend blouses-button down the front blouse -3/4 sleeved-(which on me are long sleeved to me-because I have short arms) I usually prefer longer sleeves. I think I should add a nice short sleeve white cotton blouse to my wardrobe. Do you have any stores where I can purchase one? Thanks for the great video! Blessings!
Aw Kay I love this video . 3 Style Hacks Fantastic🎉Ive now tried all 3 👌🏻My shirt tie looks so much neater , loving the belt looks so much nicer than it all going through my skirt loops and the shawl too , Ive always struggled with them but not now Thank you 👌🏻Im loving the Cognac accessories and even my husband noticed and said how much more Sophisticated they look even when Im dressed casual. Love this ‘Coastal Chic’ look and your description of the colours and yes to the splash of red , all your outfits look fab and Ive downloaded the ‘looks’ from the printable library ….I also really liked that you showed the ‘Movies/Actresses’ a really nice touch 👌🏻. I love Diane Lane especially in that movie ‘Under the Tuscan Sun’. Your video and your Coastal Looks and watching that movie again just makes me want to get dressed like that pack a picnic and head to the nearest beach . Thank you lovely lady you have made me feel so summery now 🌞🌻with lots to look forward to
This is the basis of my holiday capsule! 6 tops and 5 bottoms can make 30 outfits 😉
I'm 69 and have been dressing the Coastal casual chic for several years and absolutely love it!! I really enjoyed seeing the outfits you created for this capsule. The tips for how to wear a scarf and how to tie a shirt at the waist were especially helpful. Thanks again, Kay!
I remember when my kids were little in the 1990's, my entire wardrobe was khaki, white and denim. The fabrics were a little different - but I'm so happy that's essentially this coastal style. Question - I live in Florida, I'm 64, and all I can find about wardrobe capsules is the things people take on vacation. We don't wear cardigans or wraps, it's just too hot. We do wear a lot of natural fibers. When it comes to styling, we do accessories (bags, shoes, jewelry) but often it's more shorts, skorts, tanks and short sleeved tops that will keep you cool. So what are the coastal things we should have in a Florida / Caribbean / Hawaiian / general tropical, hot climate? How can those of us who live here take summer style for the midwest and north and translate it to tropical?
I also can not tuck in. My weight sits all in the front. Skirts and dresses I do not wear at all. With 60 my legs do not support this anymore. I also would like some more videos where covering love handles is a topic.
I am a grandma. But I’m definitely costal. But I can pretend to be. I wear the clothes. Even if live nowhere near an ocean.
Love your style hack for tying a shirt in the front!
I enjoy your channel. Do enjoy putting together my outfits with ideas you bring to us. Happy summer.
Happy Birthday Kay, 🎉
Great video, and I love the “hacks!”
Love that shirt tie hack. Much simpler than others I have seen and it truly lies nice and flat. Thanks for the tip!
Hi Kay! I absolutely love your hair like this!
That’s my absolute favorite style! I have been a grandma at the coast now for close to 10 years. Love linen, gauze and other natural fibers. Thanks Kay!
Love this aesthetic. ❤ And that tie hack at the end was worth the price of admission. Thanks, Kay!
Thank you for all the wonderful ideas. If it weren't for you, I'd be in left field style wise.❤
Not scarves for summer, no
I love the coastal chic look in the summer. I recently invested in a pair of oatmeal/flax linen pull-on ankle length pants that are oh so comfortable. I look forward to getting a lot of wear with these. I tend to lean towards the preppy look in the summer. Do you still wear the navy/white sail boat shorts from Talbots? I recently wore mine and I get so many compliments on them. I would love to see a video on how to style shorts in the summer. I would also like some ideas on what you wear for lounging around the house. Thanks for your style inspiration. Love the blue/white striped linen dress!
Include Bamboo in your natural fibers
Loved watching the video. I like the reminder of being intentional with pieces in wardrobe that they go with many things in wardrobe. And the style hacks are great. I will be trying the tie the shirt one. I added linen pants to my wardrobe this spring for first time. Love the ankle length and full length. Have already worn them. And the shorter length came on my Greece tour, a wonderful light weight material and I didn’t need to put on sunscreen!
I loved your style hack for tying a button down shirt. I never do it because it always just looks weird…it just doesn’t lay right. I’m going to try your trick…it is absolutely brilliant!!
Give it a try!😊
Thanks Kay for the terrific and timely video! I have several pairs of linen Eileen Fisher pants with elastic waistbands and love the coastal aesthetic, but sometimes I want to accentuate my waist. Is there a way to tuck my shirt or belt the pants to accentuate my waist a bit? Thank you!!❤️
Thank you for this video 😃
Thanks for watching!😊
Yay! This is my favorite style! So comfy and pretty and good for my real life! : )
Great!😊
I love the coastal look - so classy and put together. Thank you for all the useful information And as always your hair looks amazing- the pulled back look is so youthful and fun!
Thanks!😊
These are all my favorite summer looks..great job..keep them coming💙
Thank you!😊
Great tie hack! Very classy outfits. Thanks❤
Thanks for being here!😊
Don’t take your fashion cues from who you see at Walmart. Words to live by!
I love these looks - especially that skirt!
😊
I really enjoy your channel & have learned a lot from your videos. One style trend I do not get is the incomplete tuck of a shirt or top. It just doesn’t make sense to me & it doesn’t look right, chic, or classy in my opinion. Am I just old-fashioned?
The look you are talking about is ridiculous. I also can't stand ripped jeans😅
I don't like that look at all either. It looks sloppy and incomplete as you say.
I’m very much a blazer, not a cardigan, fan because the structure of a blazer is so much more flattering. I feel frumpy in cardigans, and the longer they are, the more short and stumpy I look (5”4”). I finally found the perfect summer blazer, a white linen jersey one from Poetry. I love it so much that I just ordered a duplicate, but everyone else loves it, too, it’s always on backorder. It’s the perfect, super-comfortable, lightly-structured coverup for summer when going into air conditioned spaces like restaurants or cinemas (it comes in some other colors, but, unfortunately, they’re not neutrals or basics). I also have several woven ones, from Quince and Banana Republic, with breathable linings, and I just got two great unlined linen/rayon striped ones from Caslon at Nordstrom. Now I have all the summer “third items” that I need for my summer dress, skirt and other separates outfits. No brand affiliations, just a regular shopper who likes to share when I find good items in breathable natural fibers, all I wear (I have plastics allergies and overheating).
Hello, Very helpful style hacks. Thank you
Thank you for watching my video!😊
I wear dresses or skirts outfits whenever I can, year-round. But, if I need to wear trousers or shorts in the summer, they’re always linen ones. Even cotton can be too hot for me on some high-summer days. I just moved my linen “capsule” onto my clothes rails and moved everything else out for the summer. It was just in time for our first killer summer heat wave here in the San Francisco Bay Area! Linen is essential for hot summer weather, even though it can be hot work to iron it. I really love linen jersey, in addition to woven linen, it’s super-comfortable and doesn’t need ironing. H&M always has a few items in this fabric and I was excited to find some nice linen jersey shirts at Banana Republic yesterday (called something like “Summer Resort Shirt?”). I ordered this in several of my basic colors. I think this collared style looks a lot more polished than a plain old crew-neck tee, and the collar and V-neck (open) are flattering and draw the eye to the face. There are more and more nice linen options offered every summer, happily. Thanks for another great video, Kay🙂
Would a cool muted green work with the coastal color palette?
No one asked me, but I say yes! I love those cool, muted greens, too, friend🙂
@@kimberlyperrotis8962 Agree ! Think of all the different colors of sea glass ! 💙💚💛 etc.
This is definitely my vibe, loved the video.
Great!😊
