    You should push the coil down and put some epoxy on the loose part of the coil and that way it won't rattle

  • @Mikep1024
    @Mikep10246 жыл бұрын

    Colin Archey well kicker was a great company once. American made and mostly hand made. I think back in the 2006 to 2010 time period they sold out and lost quality control and customer service. And manufactured in china and Japan. I mean kicker is now sold in Wal-Mart.... What does that tell you? Dont get me wrong....not bashing Wal-Mart because I do shop there. But its about money now. Not the "living loud" reputation alma gates gave them with here Kicker Branded Bronco that had 20000 watts of power on over 20 L7 subwoofers. Back when they were built strong to last. Now L5s and L7s constantly have issues with the tinsel leads. People throw them out thinking they are blown... But the tinsel leads just wear out were they connect to the cone or the terminal from over excursion. A simple $2 fix

    good job mike. too many youtube videos of morons purposely destroying speakers due to a simple rattle or rub where an hour or two of labor can have it up and running like new again.

    Did your Kicker repair last? If so can I have the name of the epoxy that you used on the coil windings please because I have a pair of older model L7 solobarics with the same symptoms. Ben G yes to this day my buddy is still banging these subs. No rattle at all. The adhesives I used where BIG QwixTer on the coil which is clear and applied with an acid brush. • @Mikep1024

    William Nixon if you check out the other videos you will see I carefully pried the spider off the basket using a 90° pick tool. I poked into the glue and slid the angled part under the spider. Than I proceeded to pry it slightly a bot at a time as I went in a circle and also desoldiered the tinsel leads

    I don't know if you still look at these comments, but I tested my sub with a multimeter and it gave me good ratings, but when i press on the cone, the coil feels frozen and won't give in at all. Is there a reason for this?

  • @Mikep1024
    @Mikep10246 жыл бұрын

    Faris Ziyad well there could be several possibilities. Sorry I just saw I had Your comment. One possibility is the coil got hot and expanded, another is the coil some other part of the motor assembly shifted and is no longer in alignment. Ive taken subs apart and found the coil former bent from too much excursion and causing the speaker to bind up. You wont really know till you tear it apart

  • @whoismarkjones9283
    @whoismarkjones92832 жыл бұрын

    Your magnet is shifted. You need to tear down the same way and play hell straightening the magnet(look up motor shift fix). The magnets glue has worn out and smacked to one side, pinching the coil. You can hit the magnet side to side with a mallet and you will get some cone movent. If you force it out without doing that, you will skin the coil.

    Baby Gotenks I'm not hating on kicker, I was simply stating that the quality has gone down since leaving still water designs. I wish they would remake the old gold letter or the comps from the 90's but upgraded. bugger motor, magnet and coil. with a lil more excursion. that would be awesome. with a RMS of 1200-2400 watts. I may start looking for dome old kicker cones and good motor and basket. and build a hybrid kicker.
