Do you think dunking helped your track progress in the long term
@johncollinaskew3 ай бұрын
Not really. Track workouts, (weight lifting) sprints and jumping a lot helped me jump higher and get more consistent dunking. I jumped through 3 track seasons which was tough on the body. Track was affecting my jumping while jumping affects my running. So I decided to stop jumping to see my potential in running then I will retire track after mid May and start dunk training again!

Don’t think I ever asked this but , with you being an obvious jumper how come you don’t do the high jump ?? Is it cause it’s one ft jumps only ?
@johncollinaskew3 ай бұрын
I never really jumped that much in high school. I was more into sprinting and football. I started the dunk journey my senior year of high school when Covid hit. Then I got the scholarship to run track because of my running. I didn’t do any jumps in high school since I wasn’t really into those. Some people say I should do high jump or long jump since I was dunking and running track at the same time. We already have long jumpers that are really good and it’s a jump technique I’ve never done before and I’ve already showed my potential in running so Coach stuck me with that.

High jump is very different type of jump. Single leg vs two leg. The ground contact time is much shorter which favors thin explosive jumpers over powerful jumpers.

Have you tried long jumping?

Nah, I only sprint. I’ve never tried long jump. I would probably get 6 something meters if I tried. 2 foot jumping is my strength.

Pretty bad race since I didn’t trust my body getting out the first 100. I then ran the 4x4 and split a 49.33 after making adjustments. This 400m open taught me a lesson to do better next time!
