I knew about this. Never bent the tab in though. I kept the box they came in and when I'm not using them, I put them back in the box but I would have to take them apart for them to fit. But yeah, most men won't read instructions even when it's right in their face.😂

That metal tab just keeps the ratchet bar from becoming separated and lost from the base. It doesn't affect the safety of the jack. When jack stands are shipped, the ratchet bars are not inserted, so they fit in a smaller box.

Good idea. One jack stand video I found helpful was the one that showed how easy it would be to accidentally bump the release lever when under the car manipulating say a driveshaft or muffler tube or long wrench.. Seems there should be a second lockout but I'm still using mine as is, just more careful.

Everytime I release the bar it bends the tab a little bit until u can pull the bar out. Takes a couple uses well Before it straighten the the tab.

This is good advice, but it's nothing new. I bought a pair of jack stands in 1985 that had a similar feature. The only difference is that they came with roll pins that you drove into the lower end of the ratcheted part, and they served the same function.

Yeah, I saw those tabs and their instructions 30 plus years ago, mine are still unbent. My buddy that's been a mechanic for 40 plus years are the same, I teased him once about bending them in and all he said was "why"?
