Cozy homemaker crafting a slow and gentle lifestyle.
Hello my dear friends!
My name is Emily. I am an introverted homebody and I love to talk about knitting, sewing, crocheting, books, tea, and all those sorts of creative homemaker lifestyle things. I've been knitting for over 15 years, sewing for more than 10, and reading for longer than I can remember! 😁
I live in Kentucky in the USA with my amazing husband Micah, we welcomed our first baby in August 2022 and are expecting our second in August 2024!

It is so good to see you Emily! I love all your tolsta tees. The new one with Night Bright yarn co is going to be amazing ❤ hurray for toddlers sleeping 🎉
Thank you so much, Stephanie!! ❤️❤️
Wow, Emily! You've gotten so much done! This coming Friday and Saturday will be the Main Street Festival in Trenton. Hope to see you there! 💚
Yes!! I'm hoping we can make it out there on Saturday! I need to grab a couple more yarns 🤭
So nice to see you and catch up with your knits and news! 💕
Thank you!! I'm glad you enjoyed it! ❤️
Congratulations! How exciting for you! I came across your podcast by accident and I was delighted to notice my Cottage Blossoms Socks on your sock board! What a wonderful surprise, I hope they bring you joy! 🥰🌸 happy knitting!
Thank you so much!! I really love all of your designs so it was hard to narrow it down to just one! 🤭💕
It was so nice to watch your vlog. Continued prayers as you await the birth of your blessed little one. 🙏
Thank you so much! 🥰
I’m the same about shawls. I used to make so so many of them, eventually I ended up donating a whole bunch. I love making cowls instead like you said. I love those patterns you showed I will have to check them out. Have a great day Emily! (Or whenever you see this, it is evening here and I am sitting on my front porch knitting and watching podcasts, my favorite thing!)
That sounds like such a lovely, cozy knitting time!! 🥰
I agree about the shawl thing. I love knitting them but they are not practical, they don’t stay put and become not enjoyable to wear. The Dixie Creek Cowl is a great pattern, I recently finished one.
Oh my gracious, Emily! (This is Beverly from TWN.) I was scanning my youtube feed and there you were! I'm so glad you had a good time with us on LYS Day, because we enjoyed having you visit us. If you've not seen last Friday's blog yet, be sure to take a look because you're there! 😃 Next time you stop by, I've got something funny/crazy to tell you. Can't wait to see you again.Take care---- 💚
Hi Beverly!! I absolutely love TWN. It is pretty much my ideal LYS. 😍 I saw the blog post and told my husband I'm practically famous now since I was included in the photographs! 🤭 I'll probably be back soon for some more baby yarns since I'm making a lot of baby knits these days. Berroco Vintage DK and Sock have become firm favorites since I found them at TWN!
@@Woldenburn Great! see you soon---- 💚
Your projects are beautiful. Praying about your test! 🤗
Thank you so much, Elizabeth!! ❤️
Enjoyed your video!!
Emily, all of your projects look beautiful! I especially like your new ranuculus sweater, the yarn is stunning. You are in my prayers!!
Thank you Sarah! I'm in love with how my Ranunculus is turning out. It has been such a fun project to work on and a much needed distraction. Thank you for the prayers!! 🥰❤️
I’m a major introvert so I can totally relate! Too much going on, even good things like you said, stresses me out. Praying your test goes well! Oh and your cushion is beautiful!
Thank you, Eileen! I so appreciate your prayers! ❤️
Hi Emily! Love your projects, esp the cushion and ranunculus! I’m working on my 3rd ranunculus and would love to make one in cotton. I’m experimenting with more plant based fibers too since I live in GA….. I’ll be praying that your test goes well! We have always tried to travel with my husband too when he had work trips. Not always possible but when it has always been a fun time to focus on the children, especially if there was a pool at the hotel. Have fun and don’t stress!
Thank you, Susan!! I could see cotton or other plant fibers being pretty necessary in GA! My family lives in SC and they talk about how hot and humid it is much of the year. Thank you for the prayers!! ❤️ That is one of the fun parts about work trips: no house stuff to work on! It's fun to have a little break from the normal schedule. But it definitely makes home so lovely to come back to! And I didn't even think to check and see if there is a pool at the hotel. I'll have to see because Toddler Tam would probably love that! 😁
I hear you about the travails of being an introvert. We have stormy weather this weekend, and I’m taking advantage of it by staying home and knitting! Also, prayers for your GD test. It’s no fun at all!
That sounds like my idea of a perfect weekend! 😁 And thank you for the prayers! ❤️❤️
So many beautiful wips! And I absolutely love how the cushion turned out! ❤ I hope all your travels in May go well!!
Thank you so much, Emily!! ❤️ It was such a pleasure working with your beautiful yarns! 😍
Hi, Emily! Merry is watching with me, and she wants me to say “Love those socks, Girl!” 😂 She’s so sassy. I am loving your Ranunculus ❤ I will definitely need to make one of those at some point. I’ll be praying about your test-don’t stress! (Easier said than done, I know).
Thank you, Holly! And thank you, Merry! 😘 I could definitely see the socks being her colors. 😁 I think you would love knitting a Ranunculus. I am very excited for how this second version is turning out!! And thank you for your prayers! At this point I'll just be so glad to have it over and done with. Anticipating it for almost a month has been rough at times 😖
Good luck with finding suitable maternity clothes! It’s hard. With the second pregnancy, it’s like your body already knows what to do so it does it as soon as it realizes there’s a baby in there! ❤
Thank you!! ❤️❤️ That's been exactly it! My body is way ahead of the game this time around 😁
Absolutely love how your dress turned out!! Looking forward to more videos. I still need to sew myself a dress!!
Thank you Stephanie!! 🥰 I'm so happy with it. It has really helped me want to get back into sewing. And you totally should!!
I enjoyed this video and am looking forward to more in the series. I used to sew some, when my son was little for him and some for me. I’d like to get back into it, probably this a fall as I’m doing a 1000 hours outside in one year challenge and want to spend the summer outdoors. I rarely wear dresses but I’m still interested in hearing about your projects. The dress you’re wearing is beautiful and looks great on you!
Thank you so much, Eileen! I'm looking forward to making things for my little boy but I'm planning to wait until he's a little older. Sewing definitely takes a back seat with the weather as beautiful as it is. I keep having to pick whether to sew for a bit or be outside with my husband/toddler and do some knitting. Knitting and the outdoors often wins these days! At least I have a window right by my sewing area 😁
Love the dress you're wearing and the fabric of the next!! I have the same issue with sleeves. I can't ever seem to get a fit that is completely comfortable haha but then again, you know I'm notorious for not following directions so I assume that's my own fault 🤣
Thank you! ❤️ To be fair, I have had that issue in a bunch of the things I've made even though I followed the instructions exactly!! 😅
Love your dress; very pretty!
Thank you so much!! ❤
This last winter I knit both of my kids sweaters from Lion Brand Wool-Ease and I have thrown both of them into the washer and dryer multiple times and they've held up super well! I like the added warmth of actual wool (and the stitch definition for cables) with the ease of washing.
Yes! I love the idea of it actually having some wool in it. That has been my biggest hesitancy with using plain acrylic yarns because I'm worried they won't breath as well or be as cozy as wool. So I'm definitely going to grab some Wool Ease to try!
My son was born in 1990 and those three colors do remind me of some of the colors he wore when he was a toddler. Congrats on having another little boy how fun!
Thank you!! ❤️ I'm pretty sure I remember my older brothers having jackets or something that were a similar color scheme which is part of what made me think of combining them. 😊
I love the Stella Quilt Cushion! What a lovely design. The colors are so cheerful, perfect for spring!
Yes! It has definitely been the perfect spring project! 😁
What a treat to see all of your knitting plans. So sweet! I have used a lot of Lion Brand Wool-Ease yarn to knit sweaters, vests, and shawls for my daughter. It is an acrylic/wool blend that can be machine washed and dried. I find that it is softer and cozier after washing. When she was a baby I used some pricier yarns, but accidentally washed and shrunk one. I couldn't trust myself not to make the mistake again! : )
Thank you, Sarah!! 🥰 I hadn't thought of using Wool-Ease but I love that it's a wool/acrylic blend! I think I'll need to grab some to try out because it sounds very cozy. I've really enjoyed all the Lion Brand yarn I've worked with so far. And that's exactly what I'm worried about! If I accidentally tossed a "fancier" project in the wash and ruined it I'd be so sad!
I love your knitting plans for the baby and your little boy ❤! There is so much joy in doing things for someone so special that you haven’t even (really) met yet…it makes me a little teary-eyed 🥹
It is so special!! I was knitting on the newborn cardigan and my husband asked me what I was working on and I was able to tell him it was for our little baby and it was just lovely. ❤️❤️ Sometimes it still doesn't feel quite real that we'll be welcoming another little one is just a few short months, so working on things for him helps him feel like a real person. 🥰
Knitting for babies is so fun!
What about the no heel socks? Worked in a spiral 🌀 there’s a KZread tutorial
Oh! I haven't looked into those. Thank you for the suggestion! ❤️
I can’t wait to see all the baby knits!!!
Hi, Emily! So good to visit with you again. I love all your projects, finished and in progress! My favorite yarn was the Coral Reef color way. What a happy color! Take care as your little one grows inside you. May God bless you abundantly! ☺️🙏
Thank you, Maureen!! 🥰 Coral Reef is a very happy color!! 😁
Great projects! I am with you on looking forward to being outside without it being super hot.
Thank you, Elizabeth! ❤️ Yes, this balmy spring weather has been Amazing after all the freezing cold! 😊
Hi Emily, you have so many fun projects to going in! I love your sample knit cushion! I have the sweet shop blanket pattern that is similar but haven’t started yet. Take care!
Thank you, Susan! I was very tempted by the Sweet Shop Blanket when it came out. It looks so cozy! ❤️
So many gorgeous projects!!! I’m so happy to see coral reef in your tolsta tee, that’s going to be so much fun!! And I absolutely love how the cushion is coming out!! I feel like the pattern seems to be really good for learning some new techniques!
Oh and I feel you on the bump, I feel like I’m already almost as big as last time 😂
Thank you, Emily!! The Coral Reef Tolsta is definitely one of my happy projects. The colors are so appropriate for this time of year and it looks so cheery! And I've been loving working on the cushion! It has enough challenge without being overly complicated. And again, all the happy colors!!! 🥰
Your vest is so beautiful! I always enjoy your visits. Thank you for sharing ❤🙏
Thank you, Maureen!! 💕💕
Your vest is beautiful and is a great color on you! I am also a big fan of little boys in vests. I have knit them for my sons and think they are just so cute. I almost always knit my children's clothing in acrylic. I need to be able to wash them frequently and easily, plus it keeps the cost down typically too. Thanks for another fun episode, Tricia
Thank you, Tricia! ❤️ I am really excited to knit a little vest. The more I've thought about it, the more I think my little boy will get a good amount wear out of it. 😊 And yes! Yarns can be quite expensive and especially with how quickly little ones grow out of things, doing it with budget friendly yarns makes so much more sense.
The vest is so cute! I love the color on you ❤️ I wish you the best on getting so many socks knit this year!
Thank you so much, Emily!! 🥰❤️
I enjoyed this vlog very much Just discovered your channel after seeing your Lauder vest on revelry its beautiful ❤
I'm glad you enjoyed it, Karen. ❤️❤️ And thank you! I'm so happy with my vest.
I think you are so right about the kid knits. My kids wear their acrylic sweaters way more often than "fancier" options and I don't have to worry about them at all. It's so nice to see them enjoy and use what we make! I knit my oldest son a sweater vest a couple of years ago and he has gotten several years of wear out of it! Definitely worth it!
Yes! I love being able to let my little one wear what I've knit him, and now that I've realized I feel better about using acrylics for him, I'm actually excited to make him a few things! I cast on the little vest a couple days ago and I can't wait to get it done. 🤭❤️
Lol! Dying yarn with a toddler and a 10 month old "that sounds like a party". 😂❤
Beautiful vest! We *were* having spring until it snowed about 3-4 inches last night. ☹️
Oh bummer! It's definitely been more chilly here the last couple of days, but I think it's supposed to warm up again soon. 💕
So sorry you all were sick! Take care of yourself.
Thank you, Eileen! ❤️
Emily, I love your vest!!!! Great thoughts for toddler knitting. Acrylic is probably best. Thanks for the shout out on my bags!
Thank you, Susan! ❤️ I love all of your bags. I think nearly all my active projects are in one! 😁
Your vest is beautiful!
Thank you, Elizabeth!! 🥰
Emily, I am so glad you are feeling better! Your vest is beautiful and the color looks so nice on you. I hope the rest of your pregnancy goes smoothly and your little baby will be here before you know it. God bless! 🙏
Thank you Maureen!! 🥰 I have definitely felt much better the last couple of days.
Hi Emily! I am so glad to see you ❤ glad to hear you are recovering! I love how your vest is turning out, it is stunning. I need to go back and get a closer look at you Tryon cords. I need some! I'm going to try out Leverage - David and i need a new show. Happy spring 😊
Thank you so much Stephanie!! I definitely recommend those cords. They are very helpful and have made me much more likely to stop and actually try on my garments midway through rather than just hoping for the best. 🤭 And I hope you enjoy Leverage!! It's something my husband will sit down and watch with me and he seems to like it too 😁
Your vest is beautiful! I love that color on you. Hope you are able to get some sleep and feel more energized soon!
Thank you so much Elizabeth!! 🥰
I’m glad y’all are feeling better! And I’m glad you’re taking it slow catching up ❤️
I’m loving The Scarlett Pimpernel! So good! I can’t wait to hear what the spring book is. I put up a hummingbird feeder last spring, best thing ever!
It is such a good book!! I've read it more than once in the past. I have been LOVING our bird feeder! There have been so many birds showing up and it is such fun to watch. I'm excited to see if even more varieties appear as spring progresses. 🥰
@@Woldenburn I’m sure you’ll see lots of different birds as the spring/summer progress!
Hi Emily! You are just exactly the wife and mother that God made you to be! We all need to strive to be more Christlike but take heart in the fact that God made you fearfully and wonderfully and you are loving your family in the best way that you can! I love your projects!!!
Thank you, Susan! That is such a good reminder! 💕💕 I am so glad God has given me this opportunity to be a wife and mum, it really is such a blessing.
I love how you love your family and home. Great episode as usual.
Thank you Eileen! I'm so glad you enjoyed it! 💕
