    The best part about this tragedy, if you could call it that, was that Jimmie Johnson would end up winning the very next race in their honor. His words over the radio, "Thank you boys. In loving memory all the way."

    Points are awarded by a panel based on difficulty of each move. Monster Jam is one type of event with these trucks, the other is actual bracket racing around a course. A short course. There are different groups of trucks in each type of competition that really are almist identical in construction. The trucks actually burn nitromethane, and gulp the stuff. An announcer at an event I watched as a teen once ssid "They don"t get miles per gallon, they get gallons per mile." The big wheels and tires are removed and replaced with wheels and tires that would look small on a VW beetle. This narrows and lowers the truck enough it fits in a standard semi-trailer(lorry). They look faintly comical, like a grown adult on a tricycle.

  • @MGower4465
    @MGower44652 күн бұрын

    There is very low air pressure in the tires, this allows for a lot of extra "bounce" on landing. Trivia: monster trucks float.

    There is just something so hauntingly beautiful about hearing Amazing Grace on bagpipes, paired up with the low wail of the Indy engines as the cars are doing the five lap salute to Dan. I don't know what it is, but it is something that is absolutely beautiful, absolutely haunting and just the rendition of Amazing Grace on bagpipes fits the tribute so, so well.

    Gods, hearing Marty and Scott and Eddie emotional gets me every time. Jamie Little and the technical isssues ESPN had break my heart, she was sent to the hospital and ESPN missed the start of the announcement. Say what you will about Marty Reid as an announcer. But he had the right crew around him for this situation. Scott and Eddie understood immediately how serious things were. Some crews would have been talking to fill dead air. Not this crew. They all handled it with dignity and grace and the seriousness it deserved. Marty won my respect that day, he went from an announcer who fumbled his words doing NASCAR to someone who was well spoken, eloquent and rose to the occasion as odd as that sounds. He found the way to explain what was going on and yet without saying too much. Dan was, going by his gig with Versus at Texas, he had the talent to move on over to broadcasting. He reminded me of PT though, or a sober James Hunt without the outspoken drunk antics Hunt had. EDIT: IIRC this was the lead story on the BBC's sports news that day or the next. His 2011 Indy 500 win is heartbreaking but he was on the other end of that because Hildebrand did the same thing as Emmo did in 94, got too high and found the wall. Dan got past and won his second Indy 500. When Justin Wilson was killed at Pocono in 2015, it made the national news as far as being on the hourly radio bulletins, not the sports news, the main news bulletins and not even as the last story,but one of the main stories as well.

    Greg could make a CART car do things nobody else could and he was willing to put it in spotsit had no business being in. He was in the right teamwith the wrong engine supply. If Forsythe had Honda in96-99 he would arguably have been a threat to win, week in, week out and challenged for the title. Greg came to CART at the same time as the rest of the Brat Pack there or thereabouts,it was a rookie class that was stacked with talent and from a former PacWest mechanic talking about Greg to me, he was well liked in the paddock, and able to win fans over with his hard charging style,but he was not arrogant and was down to earth and honest and genuine. Makes me wonder how good he would have been in that 2000 Penske/Honda combo with Roger's tricks as well though

    4:36 Now that you know about the Indycar split in the late 1990's, Greg Moore never got a chance to race the Indy 500 as he was a CART drive during his short career. For the 2013 Indy 500 Canadian racer James Hinchcliffe, with permission from Greg's family, had a pair of Greg Moore's gloves in his driving suit for his qualifying attempt.

    Greg Moore is from my part of the world over here in British Columbia and it breaks my heart every time I think of his story and what could've been... He had dreams of racing in the Indy 500 (which he was not able to do due to the IndyCar/CART split), and eventually moving to NASCAR. He was supposed to move to Penske for 2000. After his death, his seat was given to Helio Castroneves, who would go on to win the 2001, 02, and 09 Indy 500 for that team. You should absolutely watch "A Hero’s Drive: James Hinchcliffe’s Tribute To Greg Moore" James Hinchcliffe is a Canadian IndyCar driver (now a broadcaster for the series as you may have recognized in your streams) who grew up idolizing Greg Moore and cites as the main reason why he got into racing. In 2012, he qualified on the front row for the Indy 500 with Greg's red gloves tucked into his firesuit, taking him for that run around the Indy circuit that he never got the chance to do.

    Is Larson aggressive? Yes. Does it bite him from time to time? Yes. But it doesn't seem to stop him. It seems to have worked out for him so far. And that's why he's my favorite active driver. Right now, as we prepare to head back to Richmond and conclude the season, he is 10 points to the good for the championship points lead over his teammate Chase Elliott.
