Do you spool your striper reel with mono or braid?
@@mtnguyen1696 I use mono on my live bait line counting reels but otherwise it’s braid and always use fluorocarbon leaders.
Hey Jack what brand of spoons are you using?
@@jollington Hey I mainly use the Nichol Lures Ben Parker Flutter Spoon in the mini 2oz and 3.5oz. For smaller flutter spoons I like the Flutter Jack from bass pro shops…
@@theoriginalcaptjack thanks jack! after a few years of trout fishing on the hooch, i'm now gonna try my hand at striper fishing. I'm starting from zero so your channel is giving me a lot of great info. keep on keepin on!
Thank you for a awesome video sir
That’s awesome. Congrats and hope you had fun in San Diego.
Back in 1980's San Diego we caught albacore in large quantities. I have been out of deep sea fishing for a long time. Did they get fished out?
@@timothymcintosh2932 Hi I don’t believe they’ve been fished out but it’s more related to weather patterns / water temps / etc. I’m not local but I’ve heard many locals say the same and one day they’ll be back….guess we’ll see
@@theoriginalcaptjack I bought a 28 foot Boston whaler in 82 brand new. I was 22. That year was in the middle of El Niño and the fishing was off the hook. Albacore fishing was wide open and every thing else.
@@theoriginalcaptjack I thinking about selling my construction company and buy a 32 ft Boston Whaler keep it at a slip in Florida. Also buy a 41 ft Lindell keep it in the Pacific Northwest. Both with duel 600 hp Mercury Verado's. F work time to go fishing. Im 65 its now or never
GA lets you fish with rainbow trout? Our possum cops here in Arkansas will take your boat if you’re caught fishing with a live rainbow trout!
Power reeling with the spoon. Love it! Sounds like you added a thumper to the boat too. Great video OCJ.
Yes sir doesn’t get much better; added the thumper a few years back. Thanks !!
What part of the lake was it and about what time of day was it? So exciting to see this but not able to locate any fish yet. Got all the gears but no fish yet. Would like to get my 11 yrs old on some fish for him to keep going out with me 😅
Hi, the bulk of the stripers will be south of the 53 bridges this time of the year. I usually fish in the morning during early summer. I can say you’re not alone it took me a long time (many outings) before I had real consistent success. To speed up the learning curve maybe check out a striper club and a guide trip. I have many videos about fishing for stripers especially in summer. Find the bait, find the fish, but I spend alot of time hunting / searching for these fish.
Looks like it was a great Father’s Day. I didn’t know you could fish a flutter spoon like this. Thanks for showing the technique.
Absolutley, definitely a great day, and yeah very fun way to fish for sure!
Great trip! No bait, no problem!
You got that right!
Wow! That’s awesome!
You had the rhythm that day buddy.
Thanks Steve 👊
Nice day my friend!
Hey thanks Keith 👊
Always enjoy your videos. thanks
Save me one next time
😂 will do 👊
I have a question ??? I level on lake Lanier and I want to catch my first striper what do you suggest as a beginner
Hi, if you’re willing I would suggest attending and or joining the striper club/s meetings as well as a guide trip to shorten the learning curve. The easiest and most prominent way is using blueback herring on a down line (and free lines). Start looking around river channel humps , creek mouths etc
Thank you so much by any chance were you fishing under the bridge before passing the state patrol how would I join a striper club
@@kevinmendoza224 not sure about the bridges but Facebook or google the oakwood striper club (flowery branch area) and the lake Lanier striper club (cumming area) just message them and they’ll give you mtg details etc. it’s free to attend a mtg a lot of nice guys
I was considering to buy same magic swimmer on ebay but kind of expensive. But I just ordered it after watching your video haha
How many casting setups do you take on a full day? What size feeds did you find most effective for the yellowfin?
Hi if you watch the previous video I go over all my setups on that trip. I would bring one setup for casting lures like the popper; but you could bring more if you want. I used the 150 and its perfect.
@@theoriginalcaptjack thanks bro
In the winter what are you looking for? Deep water humps?
Watch the next video 👊 deep bait
@@theoriginalcaptjack great video. Everyone near me pulls planner boards in winter. I would like to do more of this. Do you find this just as good?
@@jeremywyatt50 yeah lots of variables to consider but this is a phenomenal pattern in the dead of winter when the bait is deep.
Good information. Excellent review.
You crushed them dude
I'm local and fish lake lanier. Where area of Lake Lanier are you on? What bait do you use?
Hi I live in Buford but fish all over the lake mainly out of the east side. I use all baits just depends - in my videos you can see I catch them on a variety of live and artificial baits - I prefer artificial when possible
Gonna do anymore Georgia videos ?
Hey Tyler, yes for sure, just haven’t had a lot of extra time but definitely will post worthy content when I can. Anything of interest to you?
@@theoriginalcaptjack just trying to learn as much as I can about fishing for striper in these reservoirs. And crappie fishing too if you enjoy that😂
I may have missed you say. What water temp does this become effective.
Hi I’m not sure of the right water temp…i I personally think for these GA stripers it’s multiple factors to consider for best success. I would definitely use this technique once the dog woods start blooming….just might need to adjust what areas of the river you fish.
Just ordered 2 Mini's via Captain Mack. Never fished an A-Rig before. I am up in NE Tennessee. Late Summer early Fall last year , the Hybrids would semi school off&on for about an hour before dark. Had very good success with the massive 2.5" Yo-Zuri 3DR-X Popper. Caught Hybrids up to 10-12 pounds. Once surface activity was over --- so was my catch rate trying for stragglers subsurface. Hoping A-Rig is a solution. Captain Jack ...... Tennessee River fish are 4-5 times more "Picky" than your Lanier Rod Benders ! What 'tried n true' subsurface lures do you favor ?
Hey thanks for comments; hybrids fight harder than stripers so I’m sure those are a blast on top waters. I have fished your waters so I can’t offer much advice other than sticking to the basics…. For me fall and winter patterns are very different so depends on the time of the year. As always the key is finding the bait and striving to match the hatch. Not just size / color but also behavior (speed) etc. In fall, I love a sebile magic swimmer either 125ssk or 95ssk. A weightless fluke could be good as well as a spoon (flex it) and a jerk bait like a mcstick can be deadly. A rig can work year round but I usually use in the colder months when the stripes are on the threadfins. In winter I’m also throwing a 2.8” keitech fat swimmer on a 1/8 or 1/4 oz guppy jig head. In summer my favorite lure besides the flutter spoon is a Al Gag Whip It fish in pearl white on a white strike king squadron jig head - it’s a perfect match to our herring and can out perform live bait here at times. Hope this helps
I live in ga too I've watched your vid about 5 times now so good I'm glad you had a good time smoking them on the penn battle and ugly stick love it
Hey thanks Terry, it was definitely an amazing trip !
how much leader you run from the braid
It depends on the setup/use but for irons especially dropping on the spinner I’m using 3’-6’ and same for casting irons. On a conventional I may do longer.
Great Thanks@@theoriginalcaptjack
Man you finally ditched that spinning reel. It was pain full to watch.
Great video. Were you drifting or spot locked?
Thanks; I’ll drift, move slowly .2-.6mph with the trolling motor or spot lock in the winter just depends.
Oh yes look for deep baitfish schools in the creeks, drains, ditches and stripers will be there. Shallow is a secondary weather dependent pattern that is certainly good for hunting big fish in my experience
I cant believe they are that deep in the winter and i have read where the shad go way up creeks in shallow water and stripers follow ?
Im wondering if you are the same guy I spoke to tuesday night about the mini mack rig
Unfortunately didn’t speak to anyone about the mini Mack this week
are un in fresh water in this video
Yes 👍
How fast do you troll with planer boards with a rigs on them
Hey it really depends on how deep you want the rigs and which motor you’re using. In this video, winter time, you can use your trolling motor and fish it like a down line so .5-1.5mph
lol
what is that thumping sound
Thumper / drumming
What yo-yos did you use? Good work!
Hey thanks, I was using a Tady 4/0 but also use the Salas’ and some of the other brands too.
What a legendary day on a legendary boat! You did your homework on SoCal ocean fishing before coming out from Georgia and it shows. Great job! The low inertia of spinning outfits allows that sardine to swim more freely than conventional reels but of course it's a tougher fight since you cannot rest the spinning outfit on the rail. Will be keeping an eye on your channel. Be safe 🇺🇲
Hey I use a double uni as long as it goes through the guides. That’s the knot I use on all my spinning reels and I use the fg on conventional & baitcasters
16:29 -- Is that a Bimini twist you're using to join your mainline braid to your flouro leader? Is a double uni not good enough for what you're doing? This was an incredible trip! The polar opposite of my fishing trips out of Newport Beach, California 😂 Live sardines hardly even get bit on the NB trips nevermind artificials. Would love if my artificials got bit as well as yours do!
Great video, really appreciate the tackle details. How did your first yo-yo iron break? Did the hooks straighten out or something? Was it a Tady?
Hey thanks, yeah it was a tady and it just chipped/ broke right off so the ring was still tied to my line.
Wow! That was one tough fish!
You like to use lures, I have commercial fished salmon 25 years, we call them JUNK fishermen😂, first 3 years I used bait, pain in the a**, went to junk never looked back.
Hey never heard of it called that before but I like and I’m definitely a junk fisherman 🤣
i caught my first bft on the same size penn battle those reels work! Dinner on the spinner!
Hey thanks for sharing that’s awesome!! They are a great reel for the money!! Tight lines
Yeah thanks 👊
Wow what a cool trip man! Great job capturing it all!
👍🍣😁
fantastic whats the name of the popper?is it tied directly to the braid?
Hi thanks, it’s the JP FEED 170 it’s own Amazon. Local shops there have something similar but and I never tie directly to braid. All the specs are in the beginning of the video re my setup but I use about 2-3’ of 80# fluoro leader.
DON'T EVER FISH THAT BOAT ? NO COFFEE GRINDERS!!!!!😡😡😡😡😡
This guy could out-fish you any day of the week, clown 😂
I love it man!
Thanks man 👊
Awesome popper bite!
