I remember Witch of the Woods Cottage in the early 1960’s when it was still in its ‘original’ state, leased by Jack & Mary Moss ( Moss’s Grocers, Moss’s Arcade in Ripon ), before it was ‘ done up’, when they would spend weekends there as an undisturbed ‘bolt hole’ from modern life. ! Mary was the ’Akela’ to the local 4th Ripon ‘Cubs’ ( now Cub Scouts ), and used to take us up to the cottage, walking from either Clotherholme or the track opposite Sutton Grange, we were little boys then, to experience the lifestyle of the farm workers families who would have originally lived there, including the usual identification of the birds, trees, and wildlife that most children nowadays have no knowledge of ! It was bliss, water from the beck, ( not nowadays ), no electricity, no vehicular access allowed, no sanitation ( there was a basic wc in an outside hut ), but an experience of life in the 17th century !!

Paul this is brilliant and hilarious and hats off to trying the local dishes. I love the surgeon-like approach to cutting into the aubergine and walnut thingy. Wine icecream sounds like it would be a winner too! Not sure about the beans tho. You could give Simon Calder a run for his money. Please make more videos.

That was batshit crazy. I thought somebody was going to shout at somebody for a while there. How did they ever restore order? I think the SAS and the Marines deserve a big shoutout for quelling that threat to democracy.
