My dad got transferred from Guantanamo Bay to the Pentagon during the Cuban missile crises. Dad got a pair of Skins season tickets for $80 in 1962 through the Pentagon. He was transferred to Pearl Harbor in 1964 but kept the tickets and rented them to Naval officers at the Pentagon. And was transferred back to the Pentagon in 1968. He and I went to every home game until he retired in 1982. And moved to Florida. And sold the tickets for $800 during the strike.

After this game, Green Bay would not play in Washington again for a quarter of a century. Their next game in the nation's capital would be in 2004. The Redskins made three trips to Wisconsin during the 80s, and these two teams didn't play at all during the 90s.

I swear I remember reading somewhere that Bidwell had the lock on Hanifans office changed sometime during this game. When Hanifan was fired he had to get the office door opened so he could gather his belongings.

The Patriots went 9-7 that year and missed the playoffs. Head coach Ron Meyer, who had coached the Patriots for the previous two seasons, was fired halfway through the season. Meyer had angered several of his players with public criticism. After a 44-24 loss to Miami in week 8, Meyer fired popular defensive coordinator Rod Rust; Meyer himself was fired by Patriots management shortly thereafter. The Patriots went outside the organization to hire Raymond Berry, who had been New England's receivers coach from 1978 to 1981 under coaches Chuck Fairbanks and Ron Erhardt.

Billy Cundiff was the Cowboys kicker in this game, he was TERRIBLE and yet we signed him. One of my favorite sound bites was Larry Michael saying Awww Cundiff after yet another missed kick.

I definitely recall this game, as it was a fun moment to a poor season. The Redskins' D turned the Falcons over 6 or 7 times, and Monte Coleman looked a few years younger in his final pro season.
