It's connected to the 12v car battery just to energize the electromagnet, controller is a 500 watt 36/48v brushless
@SuperFredAZ4 күн бұрын
fundamentally a motor and generator (yes generator) are the same. A car alternator is a 3 phase motor/generator with a field winding that needs to be energized. When used as a generator the device produces 3 phase A.C. which is rectified by the diodes embedded in the device. Alternators are not especially good as motors since they require 12 V (Usually) at 1-4 amps wasting as much as 48 watts in the field winding.

What amp output is the alternator? Do you need to match it to the controller? I'm thinking of making one for a diy, electric powered go-kart. I can get a second-hand 180amp alternator for around £40.
@rextech429 ай бұрын
Doesn't really matter how many amps the alternator has but what matters is how many watts it can produce, so if a alternator can produce 2000 watts, that means a 2000watt controller can run it. I'll be making another homemade motor using a faulty car alternator soon so stay tuned
