We are leaving Vienna today. One thing I feel is left out of most of these videos is the S7 line as an add-on to any ‘all access’ tickets you may have bought. I believe if you have any 24hr + pass you can get an add on for just 2 euros one way! But you have to get it from the OBB app or machine or counter. You can’t buy even the full 4.80 S7 ticket from the WienMobil app. And the airport transfer add on the city card is way more. I had to have some help to figure out the add on/discount in the OBB app, I wouldn’t take the chance of picking the wrong discount - the OBB app is more confusing to use than the WienMobil app for tourists. But if you want the cheapest way and have already bought some kind of transport pass within Vienna I was told with the machines it is easier to use because in the right hand corner as you are purchasing your ticket there is a choice for ‘city limit’ of some kind and that will give you the correct discount.

@@gretetheaustrianguide well - it’s probably more complicated than most people want to attempt 😁. We just ubered from the airport since there were 4 of us. It’s not too expensive compared to many other cities in Europe when it is divided between more than 2 people.

If you travel to the airport you have to buy a separate ticket. However, if you go by ÖBB train, you can select, that you already have ticket for Vienna and the train ticket will get cheaper. Also to give you a heads up: Double check on the ticket automate, what connection you are purchasing your ticket for. At the Wiener Linen automates, they only offer tickets for the Vienna Airport Busses, not for the trains!

Thank you very much, Grete, for making this video. There is a lot of information on the internet, and sometimes it seems very overwhelming. I will travel in September for 3 days, and I am interested in seeing the following attractions: Schönbrunn Palace, Belvedere Palace, Hofburg Palace, Opera. I am interested in the Vienna Flexi Pass. From what I understand, these places require scheduled tickets. Do you need to be early in the morning at the ticket office to get entry? Can it be scheduled for the same day or is it usually for the next day? Best regards!

Hi Sandra! Happy to hear, that you found my videos helpful :) The sights that you are planning to see a truly lovely! Most places you mentioned indeed require timed tickets. Hi! If you buy a day pass from Wiener Linien (which is the company that operates the public transport in Vienna), you can travel all over vienna with it. No need to purchase an extra ticket. You can use your day pass to go from Hauptbahnhof to the city center. Please also check the video at 03:52 where I explain this in more detail!

We bought the OBB train ticket from the machine at the airport station. It was very easy with options available in different languages. My partner had watched a different video by someone else who stated the ticket had to be validated at a blue machine before getting on. This is wrong, there is no need, the ticket is valid on purchase. We missed the train as a result of trying to find the validation machine! But the staff allowed us to use the next train 30 minutes later

Thank you for sharing your experience, as it is very valuable for other visitors in Vienna! The tickets for the National Railway service ÖBB indeed work a bit differently: If you purchase your ticket for a specific connection, there is no need to validate it. Whereas with Wiener Linien (the company that operates public transport in Vienna), you can purchase a ticket to use on another date. That's why you have to validate it to indicate when you started your journey. Glad to hear, that your journey still worked!

However, please check the specific regulations for your drone and intended flight area with Austro Control. They have a dedicated page for drones in English www.dronespace.at/en

  • @gretetheaustrianguide

When you buy a ticket through the app or online shop, there's no need to validate or scan it. Additionally, you don't have to scan it when boarding a bus, tram, or subway. Just make sure you have your phone with you to show your ticket in case a ticket inspector asks for it during a random check.
