I thought that this was just the song of 2020. I guess it's been the song of the last four years. God, have mercy on us all.

my best friend and i live a hundred miles away. and i hadnt seen her in two years until recently. we used to have spotify jams all the time but now shes so busy. when i saw her i took her for a drove around some backroads playing this song. we had gotten pretty far away by the end of the first act, so we turned back. she asked to go to a park as the second act started to pick up. i put it in park as it swelled and rain starts falling from the clouds. it was beautiful. at the very end i looked over to her and saw her wipe a tear from her face. this is the best song man has made and i think everyone should know that.

I like how GYBE let's the instruments do all the lyricism. I can feel the message even though nothing was spoken.

Two years ago this summer I was sitting in my room holding my multi-tool ready to open my wrist up. I loved history and wanted to go out the way a Roman nobleman would go. I couldn’t take how much sadness I felt, how tired I always was. To get out of bed took all my mental and physical energy. The world and everyone in it disappointed me. I hated myself. I hated how isolated and fake my perception of the world had become. I was empty, completely accepting that even though I believed in God and was spiritual, I wasn’t worth saving and should just turn off the lights though it contradicted my beliefs. I lived in a constant state of anxiety, fear, and melancholy. 30 Years of unhappiness led to a moment that could have terminated my journey. But something told me to call my brother, I cried my eyes out. He comforted me and just let me vent for the next four hours. The next day I called a therapist to set up an appointment. While waiting for my appointment I thanked my brother. I started journaling. I noted my vices and virtues and took a conscious effort to embrace my virtues and mitigate my vices in a realistic manner. Finally one month later I had my appointment. The doc I saw specialized in ADHD. Within 5 minutes she told me I had a pretty intense case of it. After all the tests and sessions I was put on some meds to help the anxiety and my now diagnosed ADHD. What’s more important is that I started learning about what to avoid and what to implement in my life to make those negative feelings return to a balanced state. I still struggle with mental health but I remind myself that we are all human. I’ve since become deeply invested in philosophy, theology, and still love history. I thank God for my brother. I thank God for beautifully cathartic bands like GYBE, and I thank God I didn’t take my life those two summers ago. Had I done so I wouldn’t have met my wife, I wouldn’t have met my niece, and I wouldn’t have hugged my brother again. If I learned anything through my experience it’s this. Don’t isolate yourself, build your community, develop your mind not your worldly possessions, live an acetic life that balances your needs and wants. Befriend people who are different than you but open to new things. Love your friends and enemies equally. If you are spiritual then pray. But most importantly do not let the grey veil cloud your mind. Don’t let that inky black void get in your head. I don’t care who you are or what you’ve done. All that matters now is what you do in the present and future. I love you as a brother or sister. You’re not alone. Atone for what you’ve done then move on. Never dwell on the past only reflect on it and then grow. God has a plan for us all. We must be humbled before we can truly live a life that’s true to our soul. We all face the same fate. Better to face it having lived a full life rather than a wealthy one. Walk your path but don’t do it alone. Peace be upon you my family :)

Is the name an allusion to nuclear war or something? "Rockets fall on rocket falls." The "rockets" being nuclear MIRVs, raining down on not only cities but economic centers, ICBM silos ("rocket falls"), etc... You can just imagine this playing as literally in the span of less than one hour, hundreds to thousands bombs, each several times more powerful than Little Boy, strike and coat the coastlines of twos superpower in firestorms and bodies...

It feels like something horrendous and inescapable is approaching you, and you can't do anything about it. Like surrendering to your death, against your will. Terrifying and hopeless, one of the most beautiful compositions in modern music.
